View 3 RepliesWith Windows 7 my security scan took less than an hour. With Windows 10 it takes 3 hours. What's the deal?

View 1 RepliesI just installed Windows 10 and need to update my antivirus. I need to access Windows Update but whenever I click on the Update and Security tab in the Settings app the tab opens but then the app freezes. This happens every time I do this so I cannot update my system.
View 9 RepliesLaptop was upgraded to windows 10 a week ago.Now I find update security setting is not opening.
View 7 RepliesI'm trying to access Windows Update, but when I click on the Update & security tab on Settings, it flashes for a brief moment then closes.

So I have an HP Envy laptop. Recently web browsing has intermittently become painfully slow on both Edge and Chrome (e.g. loading this website hung for a few minutes) and I have many timeouts on websites. This appears to be the case even when I use different Wifi networks. I do not have this problem with my desktop which shares the network.
I was wondering in Windows was in the middle of some update, but when I click on Settings -> Update & Security Settings, the control panel window simply loads a white field on the right and the words: Windows Update, Windows Defender, Backup, Recovery, Activation, Find My Device, and For Developers. I can click on nothing. The control panel often freezes (e.g. if I click on a web browser I cannot click back on its icon, but can see it if I minimize all other applications) and eventually auto-closes. When I search for Advanced Windows Update settings, I get a light blue screen with the control panel icon in the center which promptly auto-closes. I can access all other control panel options, just not anything below Update & Security.
I downloaded Microsoft Security Scanner and ran than across the entire system; no threats were found. I currently am running Windows Defender which last updated itself this early this morning.
I am using Windows 10 version 1511 OS build 10586.104.
I used to be a knowledgeable Windows user, but stop keeping current a couple of versions back. Does this sound like anything familiar or previously seen?
The HP Solutions Center stopped working after Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB3132372) was installed Apparently this update controls how flash player is used. HP Solutions Center uses flash player and will not start. I use the HP program frequently to scan documents and photos. Is there a work around for this, or do I have to uninstall this update?
View 4 RepliesI am running a fully updated Windows 10 Pro Eng. Build 10586.
I go to the start menu, click on settings and when I click on the Update & Security button the window just vanishes !
I have restarted and tried several times to no avail.
I have not installed any AV SW (that I know of) but my windows defender stopped working and says there is another AV running. How can I find out what is causing this and get defender back online? I have the windows home edition.
View 2 RepliesSince I changed to my new hard-drive I have had random issues with BSOD's trying to get into Windows.
The BSOD I get is: Kernel Security Check Failure
Usually, I just need to restart the computer, but now I can't get in at all.
I believe it has to do with some drivers, since the hardware has worked well in Win 8.1

View 9 RepliesI was performing a File Cleanup operation and it included something call Windows Defender. I always click to delete everything it displays. So I did and it deleted Windows Defender. I have since learned what it is and want to reinstall. I do not understand why Microsoft would allow you to delete a part of the system from the file cleanup screen? But it did. How can I reinstall?
View 2 RepliesEvery time I switch on my PC, after about 5 minutes, I get this annoying notification (see picture) from my OS asking me to turn on the security center service; please, note that, on my PC, I am judge, jury and executioner, meaning I decide what stays on and off, at least I've always been so although now, with Windows 10, this has become somehow more difficult. So, yes, I have turned off the security center service because I don't need it and I don't want it! Furthermore.
Now. I've tried disabling every possible notification I could find under the notification menu and the security center one; I've Googled for a solution but I haven't found anything: apparently, everybody loves this service.
While I'm here, is it possible to obtain system privileges in Windows 10? I've tried the old trick with the cmd task but it doesn't work anymore: the cmd windows does open and with "system" as well but it's not interactive apparently.
How can I disable ,,turn on windows security center service'' warning? It shows up every time the system boots...
View 9 RepliesI have selected certain file types / folders and locations in Windows Defender on Windows 10 that were added to the exclusions lists...
Previously I could go to Windows Defender and see what files, folders or extensions I had excluded but now they have disappeared....
All I see is the add buttons which work as intended when I want to add a folder etc etc.... But then they are not listed anywhere so that I can remember what I have excluded or not....
How to get that visible again, is there a setting in the registry that needs to be fixed?
This is what I should see where, below the red arrows I should see the excluded files/folders including their path etc etc [see image below]
but I see nothing..
Yet if i go to the registry as indicated below...
File and file location exclusions are stored in the registry key below.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows DefenderExclusionsPaths
File type exclusions are stored in the registry key below.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows DefenderExclusionsExtensions
Processes exclusions are stored in the registry key below.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows DefenderExclusionsProcesses
they are all listed there....?
I have to say that windows defender is excluding folders/files and etc etc, that I have selected during its scans, but I cant see the excluded items in the Windows Defender as per image of my Exclusions section below...
Removed registered users from allowed users under security properties for my external. Now I can't fully access even with administrator account. Can see root, but can't access individual directories. Originally, I wanted only one user to have access, not other accounts.
View 1 Replieswhenever i am on Windows 10 i get a constant popup that says that if i want to connect to the server i have to update my security settings. I then have two buttons: cancel and execute. Whichever i push makes no difference; the popup keeps appearing disrupting everything. Which server my computer is referring to. I am on build 10122 but this behavior was there on previous builds as well. When i return to 8.1 (dual boot) the problem is gone.
View 9 RepliesI have forgotten my network security key, all of the info I find points me to connections, wireless properties, etc..... This does not match my updated Windows 10. What is the procedures for the latest updated Windows 10?
View 1 Repliesjust installed Win 10. anti virus shortcut wont open program, activation cursor blinks but nothing happens..I don't know if anti virus is operating?
View 2 RepliesI have tried many times to arrange for my Password to be required to open Windows 10 after my computer has been in Sleep mode. So far no success.
View 9 RepliesI am trying to install a trial version of Bitdefender TS 2015 64 bit, but keep getting a message saying that my processor is not compatible the 32 bit application as my processor is 64 bit
This has only happened since I installed Windows 10 the same program installed without a problem on Windows 8.1 and Windows 7
I updated my laptop from Windows 8 to 10 successfully. I'm enjoying not having the computer constantly flip from screen to screen now. There's just one issue:
My computer was hacked, so I decided to change the password. Not the Microsoft password, which I changed successfully, but the one I type on the lock screen to unlock the computer. The current password was invented by me via windows 8, before the update.
I tried searching and found "do a control alt delete, then choose password change". That option didn't come up.
I tried a chat with Microsoft support and got an email so badly written I could hardly understand it. The writer had no clue how to change the password.
I tried logging out, then entering the wrong password, then going to the "forgot password" screen. It led me to change the Microsoft pass, but not the windows unlock screen pass which is not the same.
Surely, there must be some way to change a windows 10 unlock the computer password, but I've about given up.
So I have my new system up and running beautifully, and finally I am able to install my favorite game (Sims 2 Ultimate Collection) And I go to play the game, and BAM I get an error message saying security module cannot be activated. I looked farther into this and it turns out michrosoft doesn't support games with SecuROM in win 10. So what the hell. Am I just simply not going to be able to play this game at all? Which really sucks because this is the only system I have and the only way I would ever be able to play it. Is there ANY work around??? Youtube has people playing sims 2 on windows 10, but they give no explanation.
