Session Gets Locked After Few Minutes Of Inactivity

Jan 4, 2016

I've disabled the screensaver and the auto sleep mode yet when I don't touch my computer for a few minutes it'll go into lock screen and ask me for my code to log back in. I've even set the "Don't show lockscreen" entry to active (in the sort of registry).

How can I get rid of this feature ? I don't want anything to show up when I leave my computer for a few minutes, I want nothing to move.

Performance :: Monitor Turns Off After 2 Minutes Of Inactivity?

Aug 20, 2015

I recently updated from Window 8.1 to Windows 10. The upgrade went fairly well except for my laptop monitor turning off after 1 or 2 minutes of inactivity. I have changed all power settings to appropriate times. At times, normally after a fresh restart, my screen saver kicks in correctly. However, after a few times of working correctly, my monitor begins to turn off again.

System Slowing Down After Medium - Long Session

Jan 5, 2016

Time to time happens that my whole windows( and everything else that could) slows down and any kind of tasks are very painful to complete. Even writing becomes very laggy.

Usually I'm in the middle of gaming and have a lot of apps opened.I try finishing what's unfinished and close everything(usually at this step I restart my computer). By checking task manager I can see memory used at 99%. Last time I was curios how slow can everything finally turn(since it slowed even more down with time) and after about 15 mins cpu usage hopped to 100%. Then both my screens turned black(only mouse cursor didn't disappear) and I had to hard shut down my computer by the physical button. So far the only solution to this has been restarting the computer.

Automatic Repair After Memtest Session - Hardware Faulty Or Not?

Feb 21, 2016

Getting weird problem with Windows 10 Pro. So few days ago when i ran memtest few hours without error, but after finished test i reboot pc and Automatiic repair started before windows. Is this something with memory ? Memory trigger that error? Or it is software issue? Coincidence ?

When starting Windows 10 boot loader starts by "preparing automatic repair" and diagnosing pc. Interesting is that if I restart Windows (after procedure mentioned earlier) it will boot normally. This startup problem occurs only when starting system again after shutdown.

My disk is Samsung Evo 250 GB SSD. I run HD TUNE but no errors and CrystalDiskInfo Smart is fine 100% GOOD. Rams are 2x8gb DDR3 Kingston Hyperx 1600mhhz.

Memtest86 not showing errors. So its a hardware related or not?

Desktop Monitors Go To Sleep After About A Minute Of Inactivity

My desktop monitors go to sleep after about a minute of inactivity no matter what I set sleep mode to do. I currently have it on "never" and it still sleeps to the lock screen. Extremely annoying. I talked to some others having the same issue but no one has a clue or has seen the issue discussed.

Is There A Way Put Lock Screen Automatically After 1 Minute Of Inactivity

Mar 3, 2016

I've been using Windows 10 on my pc for quite some time now. There's allways been the option for lock screen on customization, but i've never seen it. I've recently found there are several ways to "lock" the screen on Windows 10 Pc (like using Windows+L).I also remember to read somewhere that usin lock screen reduces the lifetime of the ssd.I would like to know:

- Is there a way put the lock screen automatically, after 1 minute of inactivity (or 5) for example?.
-Is it true that using a lock screen would reduce the lifetime on the ssd?
-What are your personal recommendations about this?.

Performance :: System Freeze After A Random Period Of Inactivity

Jan 10, 2016

I didn't know where to put this thread, but because it has to do with system performance, I thought this might be the best place to post my issues with Win 10. Let me get straight to the point:Up-to-date Windows 10 install (ver 1511 OS Build 10586.36)I haven't tested it but it seems like when the computer becomes inactive after a period of time, the whole system freezes - the mouse isn't moving, the desktop remains static on the last windows that were there, the time remains static (it doesn't change), CTRL+ALT+DELETE doesn't work.

Only solution seems to be to a hard reboot. In all other aspects the computer works fine: no virus (as determined by up-to-date version of Free Avast AV), SSD runs super fast, computer reboots, shuts down and goes to sleep perfectly. It's just when I am working on the computer and get sidetracked and when the computer becomes inactive, the computer freezes.

System Specs (other relevant aspects of my system can be viewed on my system specs page):Custom Built: E6700 non-OC4 GB DDR2 RAMGTX 970 (up to date driver: 361.43) Is there some sort of log that I can call up to show what is causing this stall/freeze/hang-up?

Drivers/Hardware :: ELAN Touchpad Driver Scrolling Stops After 5 Seconds Inactivity

Apr 14, 2016

I just got a second hand laptop - Acer V3-771G with an Elan touchpad and I put a new SSHD hard drive in it and installed Windows 10 fresh.

I see lots of issues with ELAN touchpads but it seems as though Microsoft has produce one that installs and fixes most scrolling issues.

However, I have a strange one. When I enable vertical scrolling in the driver, it works as long as the mouse is active - and for up to 5 seconds after. But when I stop using the touchpad and go to scroll again after 5 seconds, it doesn't work anymore! It's like it disables it after inactivity - but only 5 seconds?

I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, tried various versions - but of course Acer doesn't support Windows 10 on this older model laptop (circa 2012) so there are no specific drivers for it on their site. Everything works except for this scrolling after 5 seconds - which I can recreate every single time.

Taskbar Seems To Be Locked

Feb 22, 2016

I am having some serious problems with my taskbar... it seems to be locked but i have checked it over and over and it isnt... i have seen hundreds of posts similar to this but no fixes that worked... i tried the powershell command... tried safe boot... tried to use an older image but that didn't work... either...

Also I got super scared when my prefered cleaning software (IObit uninstaller) said "power scan leftovers of Search" as if it had uninstalled my search bar... my pc is about 1.5 years old now and i can't find my windows installation disk anywhere... my brother has a windows 10 disc that came with his rig but i dont want to use it incase it locks him out saying his version is pirated... i am willing to buy a new OS disk if i need to but i MUST retain my files... i recently got able to live 9 and used the key so if i need to reinstall it I'm not sure if i will have to get a new one

NTFS Hibernation Locked Up?

Oct 13, 2015

I'm experiencing problems with Windows 10 trying to load. I'm unable to get past the login screen. It seems that Win is locked up on me and appears unresponsive. Trying to type my password at login screen, it just seems to sit there. After a few mins some characters appear in the password field with much delay. After all of this, I have attempted to load a live Linux distro to grab files/data off the drive to start backing up the OS and reinstall. When I went to do this, I get an error message in Linux "error mounting sdb1..... Windows is hibernated, refused to mount... Operation not permitted......" How do I get Windows 10 to load

Locked File Access

Feb 10, 2016

I recently decided to move my archived video and photo files, from a small (250GB) drive to a larger (500GB) drive as the smaller one is maxed out. However when I tried to move them, I got an error message "You need permission from 'Doug' to access this file" (or similar). In review of the source files, I see the majority of them have a padlock icon in front of them. I checked the parent file and I ('Doug') am the owner of the entire drive, all folders and all files, with total control and permissions over all of them. Yet I cannot move them, open them, rename them, or in any way utilize these archived files.

I did not ask for any encryption on the drive (which is also open for sharing with 'everyone') I have been using this drive since many previous OS setups, and other computers, since Vista, and never had problems accessing them before. I see in looking at the target drive, that all files that did not have the padlock, were moved to the new drive. I am thinking that these files may be encrypted with the old EFS(?) security, but not sure as I have never used it, at least not deliberately, but if I did it would have been under the same owner name, and passwords. I am hoping by this time in the tech evolution, that there is a workaround as some of these files are digitized 30-40 year old videos and photos, with no originals left, so I need to get these back. I am talking thousands of files!

Locked Out Of Admin Account - Can't Use PC At All

Nov 14, 2015

So the other day I noticed my only account on my laptop had lost administrator privileges. I looked up how to fix this and went about doing. I booted into "safe mode with command prompt" but that realized I didnt need that, just regular safe mode. I turned off my laptop, and turned it back on expecting a normal boot.

When it boots up, it goes straight to the windows login screen for "administrator". No matter how many times I hit ok it doesnt do anything or will start to load but eventually come back with, "account has been disabled. Please see system administrator". As of right now, that's all I can do with my laptop, so its pretty much useless to me. Is there a way to boot into safe mode using the power button or holding an F# key?

Drive Locked When Trying To Boot?

Oct 31, 2015

I was trying to boot from the Installation Media with the intent to restore using a system image disk. I have mounted the disk previously and determined that it in fact has the image intact. However it is not recognized. So, I tried to install Windows 10 Home with the Installation Media but there is no partition there and the error says "the drive is locked". I am now typing this on the same pc so obviously there is no problem with the drive.
