I've just clean-installed windows 10 here, then updated everything possible. Now when I try to open the following system settings, nothing happens:
Apps & Features
Storage
Offline maps
Windows is digitally activated and scannow found no errors.
I've seen no one at all with similar problem, except that "settings wont open" issue which has been fixed.
I'm writing this before having to do a complete wipeout of my system
Specs:
Lenovo Y510p
Hybrid HDD (Seagate) 1TB
m.2 SSD (Trascend) 256GB.
So, since build 9841 I've been using Windows 10 Insider Preview (IP) as my mainly driver. Until the recent redstone builds, Visual Studio has been plagued with problems (From Windows Universal Apps Development to ASP.NET) . I've installed Windows 10 IP in the SSD and have been using it very happily since I've had no major issues, until the ones I've outlined before.
In my Hybrid HDD I had Windows 10 RTM (10586) installed and didn't use it for a quite while (3 months). When these problems rose, I decided to start using that partition again, but out of the blue it decided to start giving me some serious problems: mostly, the whole XAML interface (Start, Volumen, Sound, Battery, etc.) didn't show up. After trying some fixes (From reinstalling Windows Apps to Creating a separate user), I decide to refresh the bits. Unfortunately, even after refreshing my machine didn't fix the XAML interface problems and even worse: I got no possibility to run Universal Apps.
I went and ran some hard disk checkups, from both: the Lenovo Utility and CheckDisk and none threw an error.
The actual problem: Yesterday (Feb. 4) I decide to clean install Windows 10 Build 10586 64-bit in the Hybrid HDD partition (without deleting the OEM reserved spaces) and I'm stuck now on Finalizing the settings. Is there a way to fix it? Tried hitting Shift + F10, but in that specific screen it does not work. In previous screens there are no anomalies.
As last resort I must wipe out everything in both drives and start from zero. I would not like to do that, since Visual Studio is so tough to install (takes too darned long). Is there a way to resort to an alternate method?
one of the pc's with Windows 10 on, when opening settings has a gray background instead of white and it seems i cannot alter this. change this background?

View 4 RepliesThis is a clean Windows 10 Pro 64-bit install on a home-built system (ASUS Sabertooth X99 with an i7). When attempting to open graphics files (JPG, GIF, etc) this is the error that pops up:
File System Error (-2147098360)
I just ran Windows Update and all seemed well, I rebooted as usual but when I logged in again i just have a black screen with a small white window that says "Personalized Settings (Not Responding)". If I Ctrl+Alt+Delete I can get the Task Manager up and it says Windows Explorer is not responding. So I shut that down and the box goes away. That's all. I can Run New Task and open Explorer but then I just get the box again.
View 1 RepliesI've tried installing a few times, and every time it gets to 75% with 1% in configuring settings. It'll stay like that for hours, so I've forced shutdown and restarted. It reverts to Win8.1, and in Windows Update it says there was an important update that didn't complete, error code: "WindowsUpdate_C1900101 OR WindowsUpdate_dt000". It starts downloading Windows 10 and we go around again.
View 9 RepliesI am upgrading from Win 7 64 bit to Window 10 via the upgrade notification in system tray. It has been sitting on 92 % (configuring settings 69%) for about an hour. Is this normal? Or is it stuck? And if its stuck, what do I do. Can I reverse this upgrade back to Windows 7?

View 12 RepliesIt seems like my Lock Screen wallpaper is stuck on "Windows Spotlight". When I try to change to "Picture" or "Slideshow" in settings nothing happens, and when i choose "Slideshow" and then "Windows Spotlight" the preview turns grey with the loading indicator and nothing more happens.
Would really like to be able to choose my own lock screen wallpaper, though Spotlight is a pretty cool feature.
I have just received updates for Windows 10, nd now when I boot up, I get a message, a copy of which I have attached to this post. This is after I sign in.
It matters not how many times I reboot, this message pops up each time.
I have gone into settings in my Windows 10 and changed the default music player from groove music to windows media player. But when I click on music files, it automatically starts playing in Groove and NOT windows media player. I have restarted Windows several times with the same results.
View 2 RepliesAfter restoring my computer back two days using System Restore, I noticed in PC Settings>Personalization>Start>Choose which folders appear on Start, that all the options are greyed out except "Settings". I was wondering if there was a way to fix this? I already tried SFC /Scannow and DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth, but neither fixed the problem.

I am running build 10586, but already had this problem in build 10571, the first one I had as an Insider for PC.
I'm seeing System Settings Broker "stopped working" in the reliability history. Additionally, I'm seeing a lot of issues with the Windows Shell Experience Host in the event viewer. What happens is that the action center is not accessible (clicking on it does nothing), and hitting the Win key to bring up the start menu does nothing.The support over at answers.microsoft.com is pathetic.URL...
View 3 RepliesFew weeks ago i got Brand new Windows 10 Installed on my Pc and i had Dolby Sound System installed together with my laptop on windows 7 and after i upgraded i noticed that sound got very weak and so i tried to find that dolby system equalizer and i coudnt find it just a buttom to turn it on and off. It was so much better on Windows 7 because i had possibilities to manage all sound settings and everything how i wanted, but now i can only turn it on and off. So i wondered is there any program that can raise the sound or give some sort of boost because listening to music now its just terrible.
View 1 RepliesRecently, I purchased a Microsoft Surface 3. From the day I got the tablet, it has been having freezing problems that seem to progressively get worse and worse. Today, I couldn't go two minutes on my Surface without having to restart it.
I would prefer to return the product, but since I can't, I decided to first try to update it. The update kept getting frozen, encountered an error or would just be stuck at 0%.
After exhausting all the other options I knew off, I quickly moved what little files that I had off of my tablet and then performed a factory reset.
The factory reset got stuck at 99%. And I don't mean that it just was there for a few hours--no, the screen literally froze. So I restarted the tablet again, which brought me to a screen that says, "Choose an Operating System" that has two options. Both options are "Windows 10 on volume 3." There seems to be no distinction between them. But the problem is that if I click one, and it doesn't matter which one, or if I just let the tablet automatically run on one of them, it loads for a few seconds with the "Surface" screen, and then immediately loops back to the same "Choose an Operating System."
How can I change the Protection Setting of external drives from OFF to ON in order to ensure equal treatment when setting a Restore Point?
View 6 RepliesI recently upgraded to Windows 10 without a problem, but after a while I thought; why not do a clean install? I went ahead and tried to perform a clean install from the windows 10 settings, and chose all drives, and a quick reset.
It then started the process, after which it crashed with a BSOD telling me something went wrong and that it would restart. After that it kept restarting, sometimes with a BSOD, sometimes just freezing on the windows 10 logo. There were different BSOD errors each time it would crash, I can't remember all of them.
Some of them were along the lines of a driver stack overrun, some were telling me system32/winload didn't exist.
We tried a system restore from USB, but there was no difference. We tried going into the BIOS menu, sometimes it worked, sometimes it froze, and we made sure that the USB would be the first the PC would boot from. Still no difference.
At this point the PC just froze on the windows logo, still trying to initialize the system reset I think. I unplugged the drives and plugged them into my laptop to check what was wrong, and both drives were wiped, with nothing left, no hidden files.
Only with both drives unplugged, the PC would give me something different, an error saying that there is no operating system, which is obvious, so I don't think it's the PC, but windows that is generating this problem.
I tried booting from USB multiple times, with a system restore on it, a windows 10 installation on it, and a windows 8.1 installation on it, since that is what my PC started with.
I somehow messed up my max memory setting from 8196 to 520 in the system configuration under the 'Boot' tab. Every time I try to restart my laptop, it said bad_system_config_error. How to change back my max memory setting to default. Btw, I'm using lenovo y510p and my os is windows 10.
View 1 RepliesAll my desktop icons are stuck on the left side of the desktopAll file explorer view are stuck in details view. Now yes, I have turned off Auto-arrange, still refreshes to all icons on left. I have tired ALL sorts combinations of view + sort by... nothing. I have tired many anti-malware/virus scans and nothing has come up. I have tired CCleaner pretty much everything and the problem persists.
Of note, I had done a system restore a week and half ago to a specific point and that fixed the problem but for just a day, then it happened again. When I got around to having time to go for another system restore, that restore point was gone and now no other restore point is fixing the issue -_-That left me to think it might be something I installed or perhaps a windows update... but after having uninstalled pretty much everything I could that I installed in the last week as well as removing recent updates.... nothing. I have also tried making a new windows account (local)... nothing. Also tried in safe mode, still nothing.
I'm trying to access the settings for Cortana, the program works fine and all but I want to access the settings but once I bring up the options and specifically click settings,Cortana freezes and forces me to have to end the task, and it happens every time. What can I do?
View 4 RepliesPower & Sleep settings won't save my screen brightness settings. On my plugged in HP laptop default the screen brightness is set to maximum despite making changes in the Power & Sleep menu screen. I've even tried creating my own Power Plan but the next time it restarts it changes to the HP recommended power plan which sets the screen brightness to maximum.
View 1 RepliesI found out that the hard disk is 100% utilized. In Task Manager, the process that utilizes the disk the most is ESET Service. If I open Resource Monitor there are many instances of the System process that are reading the disk, not writing it. I have two partitions on my disk - one for the system and the other one for data; the extensive disk reading is done for Pictures (I assigned a folder with pictures, about 140 GB in size, to the system My Pictures folder) on the data partition.
I am not running any tests in the ESET Endpoint Antivirus software and it seems to me that the high disk activity starts when I do not do anything and just e.g. browse Internet or look at something. So, it feels like Windows is doing something, but what it is and how I can influence it. If it were disk optimizations I think I should see also disk writes, not only reads. Could it be that Windows is doing something automatic with Pictures, Documents, etc.?
I wonder what is going on - I dislike the fact that something is going on with the hard disk, making is 100% utilized and making other work very slow and non-responsive.
Whenever booting my pc I get a "operating system wasn't found error". I've checked to make sure my hard drive was set to the boot drive and I've tried reinstalling but that doesn't work either.
