Sleep and password settings do not work. Even though they are set for "do not sleep when plugged in" the computer falls asleep after 60 seconds. I must constantly mess with the touchpad to keep it awake. AND every time it goes to sleep I have to use a password to wake it. In the settings I have it set to not use a password on wakeup. Acer Aspire V laptop automatically upgraded to windows 10 over about a 10 month process.
Power & Sleep settings won't save my screen brightness settings. On my plugged in HP laptop default the screen brightness is set to maximum despite making changes in the Power & Sleep menu screen. I've even tried creating my own Power Plan but the next time it restarts it changes to the HP recommended power plan which sets the screen brightness to maximum.
Both my tablets are requiring a password after waking from sleep. I have set everything I can think of to not require it, but it still asks. I am signing in with my live account, is that why?
Just upgraded to Windows 10 and found out that my computer which was setup with a "password after sleep" does not require any longer any password after sleep without me changing anything on the setup. How is this possible? Did I miss something in the upgrading process?
Moreover, when I try to check and validate the windows 10 setup regarding the use of passwords it seems everything is correct on the screen but not changeable. Options are like "frozen".
My Surface Pro 3 keeps asking for a password after waking from sleep. Even though I set the netplwiz-thingie to no password required (which works, it doesnt ask for a password when booting) and set the Require sign in in account settings to 'never'. So what am I doing wrong? Really dont want to unlock it every time.
Password is asked only when the PC starts, but not when it is waking from sleep.Ask password when PC wake from sleep checkbox is selected. But it is not Asking when waking from sleep,it directly goes to desktop.
Is there a way to make it ask the password everytime the PC wakes from sleep?
I have recently updated Windows 10, since then I have taken my computer back to Factory settings, everything worked okay, until I turned off my computer and since then it will not accept the password that I have always used.
I have a admin password. so when i put the pc in sleep mode it used to prompt for password in windows 8. But it seems in windows 10, it doesn't prompt for a password and goes directly to the os. How to put the password screen back in sleep mode?
I have "Never" set as the option in then "If you've been away, when should Windows require you to sign in again?" in the new Settings menu.
I have "Don't require a password" selected in the Control Panel Power Options.
Surface 3 sleep and screen shut off are both set to 3 minutes on battery power. Before Windows 10 the option to sleep wasn't there as I recall, as screen shut off and sleep were the same thing on that system.
I've done a restart, yet every time it wakes from sleep I have to enter my account password. Why is something this simple not working?
I sign into my Surface 3 using a Microsoft Account.
how to stop Win 10 requesting password after going into sleep mode. What I have tried netplwiz and unchecked box and also a Microsoft Rep suggested to access user accounts through cmd which I did and that worked a little to where computer needs to enter sleep mode to request password where as before when screen just shut off to save power and hitting power button before sleep activated password request happened.
The device is a Surface 3 with Win 10 from 8.1 where 8.1 never had this issue. Also, I think is weird, when sign in comes up it says switch user in bottom left but computer only has one user that I can verify through control panel and cmd using net users. So issue is tablet goes into sleep mode will request password but instead of entering password you can hit power button and select restart then Win 10 signs right in, weird.
Windows kept asking me for the password upon startup and would not recognize the password I input each time. So I would have to reset it. I went to the forum and read how to shut the password feature off by holding the windows key + r , typing the letters provided and unchecking the box. The system then asked me to restart. My laptop will not restart - blue/black screen appears and nothing else.
I am unable to turn off pw protection or to lengthen the timeout settings for my display. I have spent much time pondering what I am missing but now i have tried every sleep/power save/security setting known to man and microsoft and dell and I can not turn this feature off nor can I lengthen the duration of idle time allowed prior to screen powered down.
When I walk away from my computer, I want it to go to sleep in 20 minutes. Sometimes I return after an hour, and the computer is still awake. There's obviously a rat in the woodpile here. Some software is changing my sleep setting from 20 minutes to "Never" without my permission. Sometimes it will sleep normally for a day or 2, then suddenly something resets my sleep time to "Never".
Is there a way I can block this activity, or re-set it to the proper 20 minute setting on each startup?BTW, I had the same problem in WIn7 and Win8. I was hoping it would be fixed in Win10. It has not.
Okay so here's what happened. I had made a new user on win10 and gave it admin rights. I then booted my pc in safemode to fix an unrelated problem and when I went to log into the account, the password I had given it did not work. I do not have a windows 10 disk to reset my password as I upgraded internally from 8 to 10. all I need to do is get out of safe mode.
My father upgraded his Acer Aspire laptop to Windows 10 last week and now his login password is not working. I don't know if he had to put in a password to do the upgrade or if he miss-typed it. How to reset it or find the one he needs?
I recently changed my microsoft password. After a reset, after entering the PIN, i was greeted with the message: " username or password is incorrect".I changed it to log on with my new password and it worked perfectly.
If i enter a different PIN: " the PIN is incorrect"
It is worth mentioning that i changed my PIN several times but with no result.
I have just update to w10 from w8 and cannot open the setting button. I can't access any setting even if I look with the search windows. How can I fix it?
I'm using Administrator account on my PC, when I click on "Create a password reset disk" nothing happens, what's the issue? or again it's Windows 10 thing!!
so im placing the computer in sleep mode sometimes it goes to sleep and then wakes up after 1 min or it just turns of the screens. i found it in the event viewer i think i turned of almost everything in device manager so that the devices can't wake the computer.
In Power and Sleep I have set sleep mode to be entered after a certain time. It does not enter sleep mode as set. If I ask it to enter sleep mode on the power down option it will activate sleep but when I return to the computer later it has already turned itself on.
I have updated a win7 laptop and a win 8.1pc to win 10. I also have an ipad on the network. I have followed all instructions to "Sync your settings" but whatever I try it does not work. This is critical for my work flow and for th moment I have reverted to Google Chrome. I would like to keep everything Microsoft. This is the first time I have had the same OS on my devices and I thought that it would work Seamlessly.
I got a Dell Venue 8 Pro and upgraded it to Windows 10. Everything ran smoothly. But after I decided to change the OS language into UK English, every time I search for settings in the settings app, the result is always "Search results aren't quite ready yet, but we're working on getting them together. Try again in a few minutes." Cortana search for settings also fails to yield any result, instead returns this quote "These results may be incomplete...". I have tried restarting the device but it did not work. I suppose this doesn't render my device useless but it's quite a bummer as I'm used to using search for what I want.
I set the Power options in the Control panel for the display to turn off for e.g. 10 minutes. When not using the computer, the screen is put to sleep after that amount of time. If I then try to get it out of this modus by moving the mouse or tapping any key on the keyboard I get a screen but NO icons on the taskbar and an empty background (no actief apps). I can see mouse movements but I can' t d launch any apps. when I set the turn off display setting to "never", obviously the computer never went to sleep and everything stays as it should be.
My configuration is as follows: Win10 Home Edition Intel 64-bit
