View 1 RepliesImmediately after upgrading my Insider's copy of Windows 10 to build 14271 I noticed a vertical white bar in the notification area. it has a little arrow pointing to the right. If I rest my pointer on the bar, no tooltip appears. If I click on the bar, it moves to the left and now the little arrow inside points to the left.
View 4 RepliesI have a new Christmas Windows 10 Laptop and it goes to vertical gray lines with a 1" colored block on the screen with the gray lines. I can not get my screen back unless I do a hard power shut down. I did all the current Windows updates on laptop. I then put the full version of AVG on the laptop. It continues to go to the vertical gray lines after a short time of use. I am plugged in to 110 AC and haven't use the battery setting as yet.
View 3 RepliesHorizontal task bar works just fine but vertical task bar on left side (same problem on right side) is very wide with a small column of task icons in the center. Basically unusable when a vertical task bar is configured. I've tried with and without Classic Start Menu and it does the same thing.
View 2 RepliesIs it possible to adjust the vertical length of Action Center? It's hard to reach the 'Clear all' option in a large screen, I hope it can be adjusted to half of the screen.
View 2 RepliesIs it possible to always display the vertical scroll bar for Apps on the Start menu (or for everything in Windows 10 with a page overflow)? I am setting up a laptop for person with disabilities and want to make it obvious that there's more to view by scrolling.
View 3 RepliesMy machine has stopped booting into Windows 10 and a strange white vertical stripe has appeared my monitor. The machine startup, refuses to load then just keeps rebooting until the various recovery options appear.
Have tried a reset but nothing appears to fix it. Now it just keeps rebooting without any of the recovery options.
I have an old PC I use for testing things. I want to install Win10 on it before installing it anywhere else. But this PC has an 80GB SSD C drive. Currently it has only 12GB free. I can free up maybe 6 or 7 more GB by removing a bunch of USER temp data (if I'm brave enough), but that is still way below the Win10 system requirements. I have 2 additional internal drives, 512GB each. (Seemed like a lot 5 years ago.) The D drive has over 400GB free. Is the Win10 installation smart enough to use space on the D drive, or am I going to have to replace my small SSD with something bigger?
View 5 RepliesI have a 10 inch linx tablet which shipped with Windows 10. The font / text size just seems totally wrong especially when browsing in edge.
Whether I'm in tablet mode or not, when I search on Google for example with the tablet in portrait mode, the results are just tiny. I then have to double tap on a blank space for it to format the screen properly so it zooms to fit. It's like the equivalent of using a mobile phone to search the web but using a desktop site instead of it's mobile designed equivalent.
Am I missing something? I have perfect eye site and I'm finding it a strain to use. The resolution is set to what it's supposed to be and the default, anything else yields worse results.
Shouldn't edge browser request the mobile version and more tablet friendly websites when in tablet mode? As I say, it's like browsing every website in desktop mode on a phone.
I have a new Dell Inspiron 15 series 7000 which can with Windows 10. I am still learning my way around 10 and I'm no computer wiz. Some windows which open are very tiny. I am not referring to the size of the icons and text as it appears in some windows. Most windows are fine but a few are hardly legible. This is not browser specific, as one of the places I encounter it is when I do a Remote Desktop Connection. I have tried changing all of the display settings I can find but these adjust things across the board and once I get the small stuff large enough to see, much of what I do becomes way too large to fit on the monitor and is a real pain.
View 2 RepliesI use a 32" LED TV as a monitor. I have for the last 4 years happily through Windows 7 and 8.1.
Since moving over to Windows 10 if I walk away from my desktop for an extended period my screen is switched off as I expect but, when i jiggle my mouse the screen wakes up okay but ALL my screens have been resized much smaller.
This effects Firefox (full screen), Skype and even my 4 screens on my Arduino microprocessor IDE.
I have my display setting to "turn off after 30 minutes" and "sleep" never. Strangely it has to be much longer than that for the effect to happen. If I go away for, say, 50 minutes. Come back, jiggle the mouse - everything comes back okay. But if I go away for 90 minutes or more, for instance, all the screens are semi minimised when I jiggle mouse and the monitor (TV) wakes up.
Very annoying to have to resize all my screens every time. I have checked all my settings (they are unchanged for years) and it never happened before I updated to W10.
I just upgraded tonight from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10, but i don't like this new font.
It's too small.....i just can't read webpages. This is horrible !
I have multiple small scroll bars on my screen whenever I am done scrolling on a page. If I hover over the scroll bars with the mouse, the 'busy' windows thingy spins around. All my drivers say they are up to date. Picture attached.

Whenever I try to move, delete or rename a shortcut in ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms or its subfolders, appears this window (but the shortcut is moved, deleted or renamed without problems):
Really it is not a problem, but it seems that something is wrong...
Not sure if it's browser related, but whichever I have on chrome or IE I occasionally get a small window appear with some repeating video with Chinese writing the X does not close the window.
I have ran ADWcleaner Adaware spy bot & rogue killer....
Various problems were reported and I chose clean in all cases.
But still it comes back from time to time, this happened after downloading some free file recovery programs...when still,in Windows 8 have upgraded to Windows 10 and the problem persists
UPDATE just happened again and I do not have browser open
In the bottom bar is three windows labelled tasdkbar; two small bigger one in middle. When I click on it it shows another version of my desktop, but minus icons. What is the function?
View 3 RepliesI mostly work with many programs simultaneously . For Ex. 9 programs1-9. I clicked on the program icon1 (at the task-bar) and wanted to reach its opened (smaller) window1, but before my mouse reach it, it just disappeared behind other (bigger) opened windows2-9.
Ok, if I minimize windows 2-9 and just let only window1 on the desktop, I always can reach it, for sure. The problem: it is just annoying, time consuming & distracting to have to minimize the other 8 windows2-9, just to be able to access the window1 I'm needing. The click on the program icon1 only shows up its window, but doesn't command it to STAY IN FRONT TILL I SWITCH to other programs.
I'm speaking from working hierarchy/ efficiency, I simultaneously need other programs 2-9 too, but depending on the workflow, I instantly only want to reach the program1 at first.
This happened after the fall update. It's not a big deal as I can still read it, but it's annoying.
View 4 RepliesI am facing a problem with my laptop hp probook 450 G1 after upgrading to windows 10 ! After waking up from sleep I found a small blank white window in the left-up side . It last until the next restart pc ! I have updated windows update from setting>update & security > update windows. I have also downloaded the latest version of drivers from hp website.
View 1 RepliesSo, I decided to just do a reinstall of Windows 10 after having a couple of issues and downloading software such as iObit that is questionable at best (just found that out, glad I did some research online) and everything has been going really smoothly in terms of updating programs, apps, etc., but I just found this weird glitch or bug if you will. Take a look at the screenshot attached. Doing the simple ctrl+mouse wheel will make the desktop icons larger or smaller, but for some reason the text size is still SUPER small. My resolution settings are normal for Windows 10 (250% recommended) and I've never encountered this issue before.
View 8 RepliesI'm trying to get my small taskbar to display both time and date, like the regular big taskbar. By default, Windows displays time and date on the taskbar in bottom-right corner. But if you go into taskbar's properties and select the option to show smaller icons, the taskbar becomes a little bit smaller (which is great) and there's no room for date to be displayed (which is not great at all).
I found a few "solutions" for Windows 7, like using some third-party apps to override the default one (but there's all kinds of issues with them), or creating a new toolbar pointing to a folder that is being renamed everyday via schedule (ridiculous!) and so on.Back when I was using Windows 7, I found a dark theme that actually solved this problem (google "cryeR deviantart windows 7 basic black theme"). You had to take ownership and replace the Aero.msstyles file, and then patch some stuff with provided utility. Kinda complicated, but it worked. Now I'm on Windows 10, and I can't find anything that would work. I really like the smaller taskbar, but I would also like to see the date.
I am receiving this error when I try to open a image file
The message is: The data area passed to a system call is too small.
Windows 10
Win 10 x64
Small size icons are getting cropped .. See the image....
Hw to fix...?? I'm on latest build 10240.. Funny...It was back to normal on a reboot and now again cropped..
How can one show the date and time in the system tray having the small icons enabled:
View 4 RepliesJust something neat I noticed since I couldn't find any way to make it smaller.
View 1 RepliesFor the last 3 weeks anytime I "restart" my hp 32 bit pc it takes 6 minutes and all the while the screen is black with a small blinking light in the upper left corner everything is fine after it finally restarts and if I shut it down and start it back it starts normally and in the morning when I first start it up it starts normally it just happens any time I restart it for any reason.
