Something Blocks Auto Sleep Mode?
Sep 9, 2015
I usually watch movies and series' on my computer before sleeping, so after the film finishes it goes to sleep mode. But recently it doesn't. For at least a week now my computer is not going automatically to sleep mode. However I can set it manually, so it should work. I took some screenshots of my running programs in the background, maybe you can guess which can cause problems.
uTorrent is not a problem, because I switched off disabling sleep mode and it has worked for 1 month with that setup. I think it started after I installed my first Origin game with Origin client, but I'm really not sure, and it's not running, so it can't cause it.
My system language is Hungarian but perhaps you can see something from the names of the running applications.

I just upgraded from windows 7 sp2 to Windows 10.. MS makes me log in with a password. I don't have sensitive information. No one but me uses the computer. Someone suggested a program to run so that when I reboot, I don't have to sign in. That works okay, but now the damn thing falls asleep, and I STILL have to sign in with a password.
So, I figured I'd get around that by extending the auto sleep time, but I can't figure out how to do that.

I've tried everything I've read but nothing will make my PC sleep. It worked fine with Windows 8.1 but since 10 it doesn't matter what I change, the only way to make the PC sleep is to do it manually.
Here are some of the steps I've followed with no success:
- powercfg /requests shows nothing
- powercfg /energy doesn't show anything interesting
- no media sharing is enabled
- homegroup is disabled
- disabling NIC has no effect
- removing everything from the PC other than power and HDMI for video has no effect
- everything but my mouse is set not to wake pc (I have also tried with the mouse also set to no avail)
- updated drivers where possible
The weird thing is if I don't log onto the PC from a reboot, it will sleep just fine - the minute I log on it refuses to auto sleep. Also, if I boot into Safe Mode, the sleep works just fine again.
It's combined with the auto setting for windows update (despite having disable wake timers selected) the PC will sometimes wake in the middle of the night and stay on until I sleep it again.

Obviously I can't click on anything or type anything because the loop is constant. I've been reading forums etc for the past couple of days for a fix for this Automatic Repair loop..nothing that would work and I notice many others the past year also never found a solution.
I burned on a dvd a Windows 10 bootup thing- as suggested by someone. That doesn't stop the loop either- and yes, I did get to the page via F12 that allows to change it to boot from the DVD etc.

I'm finding the taskbar to be useful in desktop mode (where I tend to be using more apps), but to be a waste of space in tablet mode (where I want a full-screen experience). Is there any way to set the taskbar to auto-hide only in tablet mode?

How to turn on the automatic desktop/tablet mode switching?
I run W10, the official release, on a Surface Pro 3 with a keyboard cover. Up to now, when I detach the keyboard I get asked if I want to switch to tablet mode, and when I attach the keyboard desktop mode has been automatically restored. I really like how W10 separates the two modes, instead off like W8/8.1 trying to be in both modes simultaneously.
But suddenly this does not happen. When the keyboard is detached, I do not get any question about enabling tablet mode and the Surface stays in desktop mode. If I manually switch to tablet mode, when I attach the keyboard the machine stays in tablet mode until manually disable it.
I have not changed any settings related to this, not deliberately at least.
I have looked at the tutorial on tablet mode in this forum, but it says nothing about automatic switching. I have checked the available settings but cannot see that there is any setting determining automatic mode switch, other than the "Always/never ask me before switching" (which is set to always).

My motherboard is a P8Z77-V, with Gigabyte 7950 video card, if that matters.
I did the windows 10 upgrade, and all seems well, except waking from Standby.
If I go into start menu, and choose sleep, everything spins down, and the computer shuts itself off. I am assuming this 'sleep' is some sort of hibernate.
But when I leave the computer over night I come back and the monitors are off,but lights on tower on. I am assuming this is standby mode? Anyway, I can't wake the computer from it, using mouse or keyboard (both USB). Clicking power button on tower does nothing. I generally have to click the reset button on tower and do a full boot sequence. When I log in, I do not get a message about windows not shutting down properly (maybe that message is no more in 10?), but clearly it is a fresh desktop.
I reset all bios settings, and update to most recent bios. I have the latest graphics drivers.
Here is some investigating I did, hopefully it works:
Code:
D:UsersShea.Wilbur>powercfg /aThe following sleep states are available on this system: Standby (S3) Hibernate Hybrid Sleep Fast StartupThe following sleep states are not available on this system: Standby (S1) The system firmware does not support this standby state. Standby (S2) The system firmware does not support this standby state. Standby (S0 Low Power Idle) The system firmware does not support this standby state.
Code:

I just upgraded my 62 bit PC from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Unfortunately, Windows 10 now blocks todoUS backup "for my protection". It says "not trusted" and "incompatible". I've tried everything to override this, including importing the certificate, changing permissions, moving the program to my user account, etc without any success.
Also, how do I stop Windows 10 from asking me for my hotmail password in order to log on, each time I turn on the computer?

I have a HP Envy that is only 11 months old. I installed Windows 10 not too long ago and now I am experiencing issues with the sleep mode function. I have tried many other suggestions in power troubleshooter and other "fixes", but nothing is working.
Here's the issue. When my laptop enters sleep mode, I cannot wake it up. The keyboard is unresponsive with the exception of the backlight key. No matter what I do, I cannot wake it and this includes Ctrl + Alt + Delete. The power button remains lit, but the screen remains black and will not wakeup. The only way to fix this is to hard reboot the laptop by holding the power button down until it shuts off and then reboot it.

Running a Dell XPS 15, (L502X). Upgraded from 7 to 10 Pro yesterday. Played around a bit with the new OS and then went off to other things. Laptop went into sleep mode after 15 minutes as it always has. But this time I couldn't wake it up. Required me to power off the unit, then power it back on. Same thing happens now each time the machine goes to sleep mode.

Windows 10 is simply not able to enter sleep mode. Whenever I try, the monitor shuts off, but the computer power does not. When I move the mouse, the log-in screen appears (as it would when your computer comes out of sleep).I looked at Windows Event Viewer, and this is what I found for my attempt to sleep just a moment ago (Event 10016, DistributedCOM):"The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {D63B10C5-BB46-4990-A94F-E40B9D520160} and APPID {9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB70 2511 C276} to the user NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM SID (S-1-5-18) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool."
I went to these IDs in regedit, and attempted to change their security permissions. I received an error message saying "Unable to save permission changes on {9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB702511C276}" (or the CLSID).Looking at the above CLSID registry entry more closely, I find that it corresponds to a program called RunTimeBroker.exe. The official Windows website has instructions on how to change the permissions for this program, namely, by opening Component services, going to RunTimeBroker, opening its Properties, and adjusting its Access Permissions in the Security tab.

I have a problem with my Asus S56C, I have frequent BSODs, but they only occur after few seconds or few minutes out of the Stand By mode. It does not happen after restarting restarting or turning on the PC. I have already tested the RAM and Hard Drives. Updating to Win 8.1 and then 10 did not change the problem or the way it happens. Since it might be a driver problem, I have tried to play a little bit with Driver Verifier but the drivers are so many that I was not able to identify only one and then I stopped because it was really too time consuming. I updated all thedrivers manually from the Control Panel, but it did not change anything. For the rest the computer is fine, I sent it to the ASUS Service when was still under warranty and they replaced RAM, HD, DVD-ROM, but not the 24 Gb SSD. It also came back with a clean Windows 8 but it had the same problem after installing just Avast, Chrome and Mozilla (I have already uninstalled Avast and no improvements).
