Sound Not Working On Apps After Upgrade On HP ProBook 4440
Aug 14, 2015
I'm using a HP Probook 4440s which I upgraded from 8.1 to 10 Pro.
I'm facing quite a peculiar problem with sound. My sound output through the speakers is quite normal when I use things like VLC (for Windows), Youtube etc.
But, whenever I open apps like say, VLC (From the Store) or say games like MC5, it's completely mute! Like no sound.
I have my Windows 10 for around 3 days now, the thing is, in the second day after my computer froze when i was playing counter strike, everything in the task bar but my shortcuts stopped working, they dont open anymore, but when i click it, the cursor blue loading circle shows up but nothing happens.
Problem : HP proBook 6570b goes into sleep mode when clicking on start /power / shutdown .
What I have tried : went into advanced power setting in power & sleep tab and made sure the correct settings were applied under power button and lid and some other setting . I think they look correct anyway but i,m not an expert .
Uninstalled the HP power management app in case there was some conflict but this didn't change anything .
Current state : Able to do soft shutdown till system goes to sleep mode then press power button 5 seconds to completely shut down .
I have fresh installed Win 10 x64 on my HP ProBook 450, yet every now and then it freezes with only the mouse cursor movable and then restarts the laptop. I though it was the upgrade from Win 8.1 but the same thing happens after a fresh install. HP have confirmed that they have some issues with Windows 10 on their machines.
Few days ago I did the windows 10 upgrade, but ever since the upgrade the sound is very distorted. I have a Sony Vaio with a realtek sound card. The drivers i have installed are the 6.0.1.7564. I tried other driver versions, I tried to switch the enhancement off, but how to resolve the problem.
I installed the upgrade on my toshiba satellite everything seems ok except i cannot connect to the internet via wireless only ethernet cable and there is no sound. I have run a toshiba diagnostic and it offers no resolution.
So my sound has simply stopped working for the third time now and by stopped working I mean no audio where should be audio anywhere files or internet etc. The first time it happened was after my computer was shut down and turned back on. The second and third were the same. Its not a driver problem i have updated all my drivers including GPU ones. I have gone to the playback sound tab and fiddled there to no avail. Its not the head phones because they work on other devices. The last two time this has happened I have had to reset windows 10 and it fixed it but Im getting sick of having to re-download everything. So Im trying to find out how i can either prevent it or fix it without an OS reset.
All was good when we first uploaded windows 10 but suddenly all sound has failed although system says the devices are working. Also the CD / DVD had stopped working whilst again the system tells me all is fine.
Suddenly, sound recording stopped working in my Windows 10 machine. This was working pretty good in Windows 7. Later I upgraded it to Windows 10. It was working well initially. I even tested it with Cortana. Now, when I try to record, it doesn't work.
Tried with another set of headphones. => Not working Tried with Ubuntu => Not working Tried the same headphones in another machine => Didn't try
So I recently installed GTA 5 through Steam and started playing it with no audio issues, however for some reason now the sound does not work at all when it loads even though I didn't make any changes to my computer or install anything that may have caused an issue. I looked up the problem online and many people have the same issue but most of them seem to at least get sound during the loading screen, I don't have any sound in this game at all now.
I also had the same problem with World of Warships, one day the sound just stopped working. I tried playing with my playback devices, turning off the 'allow programs to take exclusive control of this device' for all the devices, reinstalling my audio drivers, direct x and now I'm pretty much out of things to try. Other games in Steam still work fine with no audio issues.
This morning when i turned on my computer the sound was not working.I reinstall all my sound drivers, i reboot my computer a lots of time, i cheked if everythings was pluged correctly and everythings was supposed to be fine but the sound don't work !
My sound stopped working after I tried to join a Skype call (it force kicked me out, every time) and now I really can't seem to fix it. (there's a cross for my audio and says "no audio devices installed" if i try to open audio manager) I've even tried updating drivers and I don't even know why this is happening.
Earlier today I was playing my usual online game when suddenly the sound stopped working. It had been working just fine earlier and I hadn't changed anything except maybe updating Adobe Flash. After a while the sound suddenly came back and then it disappeared and hasn't returned. I've been looking through all the Device Manager and Sound Control, but nothing seems to be working. When I slide the sliders in the volume mixer Speakers/ Headphones and System Sounds lights up green. In the sound panel on the speaker icon there is a green check mark. This is all happening on my pc not my mac. So I'm not sure if I pressed a button during my gaming or if adobe flash might've messed up something. I've posted this thread here because everything I looked up points to Drivers, but to me it seems like they're working???
I just upgraded my ASUS Laptop from Win 8.1 to Win 10 X64. (It has Via HD Audio)
Initially, sound worked but the microphone didn't. I fussed with many settings but nothing seemed to work.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, then the mic seems to work but sound doesn't.
Some of the events that I have encountered are: One message said "Windows has detected that Audio enhancements for the following device are causing problems". I disabled all enhancements but nothing changedBased on other posts, I tried to change the default format to 16 bit and other Hz. Nothing worked.I tried to play a test tone in the speaker setup and got the message "Failed to play test tone".I tried to update the drivers but was informed that I had the latest drivers
I went to the VIA web site to look for new drivers but there are none listed for Win 10.
Is there something else that I can do or is it just a matter of waiting for new VIA drivers? (VIA HD Audio is such a common audio chip that I find it hard to imagine that VIA and Microsoft haven't solved the driver problem - particularly given the Insiders Hub process!)
This started yesterday, I can use the windows searchbar ONCE, then later on it will not work until I restart my computer, I cant open the adjust menu where I change my background and windows theme. My sound is randomly turning off, I've tried different headsets so that's not the problem.
I feel that my windows is overall not working like it should, Is there a way I can go back to Windows 7 or some update I've missed? I just noticed I cant play youtube videos either
My audio jack is not working. I have tried reinstalling the driver and nothing. My laptop's speakers stop working when I connect my headphones, but no sound comes out. They are not detected in the Playback Devices and the Sound Mixer does not pick them up. The Realtek audio manager can, although not by default, detect when my headphones connect, but again, no sound comes out. I have tried several jacks and none works.
1. Ashampoo programs would not find my (Conexant SmartAudio 221) sound card - Ashampoo looking into this promising a fix after diagnostics - but for weeks now.
2. Audacity would not run beyond v 2.03 (which is reported by others on their forum).
That was 32 bits.
I tried a clean install, 64 bits, and to my surprise, no problem with Ashampoo progs or Audacity 2.1.1.
I'll be using my 32 bit installation whilst I slowly configure the 64 bit version for quite a while.
Other than clean booting, and trying to identify possible conflicts, is there any more specific area I could look at? I have quite a lot of multimedia programs installed.
I got mine with everything installed. So if I uninstall and reinstall Realtek, I might mess this up more. I don't even know what version I have and I can't understand the terms used in the instructions.
Should I just wait for a system update form Microsoft. Or do I really have to uninstall my audio software?
Now, for some odd reason, on my computer, the sound, start menu and cortana stopped working and I can't even get past the sign in menu without it telling me to sign out so they can "fix" this problem which I've done 3 times now so I have no clue if I screwed up this computer or what.
It started with the sound first, then the start menu so I decided to restart my computer manually (which was a bad idea, apparently) and I guess Cortana just died on me when I got back on.
Also, my computer is on Windows 10 Pro Preview still.
Problem: 1) Since updating to windows 10, Laptop completely incapable of making any sound out of the speakers. 2) Headphones plugged into jack produces no volume out of earbuds 3) The Color of the volume slider when F9 or F10 is pressed is a light yellowish orange. Not the Usual Green 4) Playing a test tone creates an error box "Failed to play test tone"
Things I have Tried 1) Downloading a new Driver (failed) 2) Resting the sound and Sound system (failed) 3) Finding the mute button and unmuting the computer (it wan't muted) 4) Restarting the computer Edit: 5) Tried to switch playback options, There are only 2: 24 Bit: 48000 Hz, 16 Bit 48000 Hz (DVD quality)
Solution I want: 1) My toshiba to actually play sound out of speakers 2) toshiba to play sound out of headphones.
I'm not sure if this is a hardware of software problem. Any way I'm posting it on both Toshiba and Windows 10 Forums.
My audio seems to not be working. I have never had this issue with this computer before until 2 days ago. I was able to roll back my system to an older date which fixed it for about a day. This time, however, it did not get the same results. My audio is just...well... gone. The sound (lower right corner in the task bar) says it is muted. When I click the icon it brings me straight to a troubleshoot, which we all know never actually fixes the problem.
The driver is installed and before I get asked if I have done the un-install and re-install, yes I have.I have un-installed and re-installed close to 6 times now. I have gone into the services and restarted (stop and start) the windows audio service close to 12 times.
Due to my audio working when I rolled back the system before, I assume my sound card is fine, but the software is not working properly (despite what the device manager says). I have also updated my system to windows 10 from windows 8.1, yet the issue remains.
This began when I was having issues with my headset and I decided to just uninstall all of my sound drivers, I manually installed my headset drivers and Windows installed the rest on it's own. I then found out it was just the usb port so I plugged my headset into a different one and all was good there...
The problem now is that the sound in my monitor(TV) will randomly just stop working and videos will start to stutter unless I switch to a different playback device, even when I go to do that the sound window takes a long time to open and can be unresponsive.
Uninstalling the driver and restarting my computer fixes all of these problems momentarily but they inevitably come back.
