I am running Windows 10 Professional with current up-to-date updates on my Dell Inspiron Laptop.
Several days ago I noticed that plugging in current headset no longer muted the internal speaker. I know that it is not the headset as it works perfectly on another computer.
Doing a web search has not resulted in finding the problem, let alone a solution. Further my anti-virus is up-to-date, as are the microphone and speaker drivers.

I have a new HP Envy M7 laptop running Windows 10. I have an odd problem where all the stock windows sounds are distorted as if they are being unnecessarily amplified. All other sounds, such as videos, music, movies, etc, are all completely fine. I've tried looking through the windows sounds area, looking at the device properties, and also at the 2 different volume control areas with no luck.
When i say 2 different olume control areas, i mean the volume control icon in the taskbar tray, and also the "Bang & Olufsen" sound control icon in the taskbar tray. Bang & Olufsen apparently provides the audio products for this machine? Anyway, i can see anyplace where the windows sounds are being amplified.
My devices are:
Realtek High Definition audio
nVidia Virtual Audio Device
Intel(R) Display Audio
i have all drivers up-to-date.

ever since I purchased a new computer this summer I have had the problem with using my speakers, my HDMI and headphone(Corsair Gaming H2100 Headset) sound is working flawlessly. When I bought it it had Windows 8 installed and I had the exact same problem then. I have both Realtek HD audio and NVIDIA HD audio installed, and I have tried to use both independently with the same result, this has been bugging me for months and I truly do not know what to do.
Edit: the speakers worked without any problems until I got the new computer.

I recently bought the g633 gaming headset of Logitech, I enjoyed it for a while until one day it decided to stop producing sound from the left speaker, which more of just being annoying also makes my left ear feel strange.
I enjoyed the amazing comfort and sound from this headset, it worked perfectly, the last time it worked was the first day of this year (2016), I was gaming at 3:00 am as I ussually do, felt tired and went to sleep. When I woke up it stopped working. I have tried all different sound types provided by the LGS and turning them off. I have tried the balance thing for volume and didn't work, except for the first time, it worked for a little until it decided to stop again.
The second time it worked was when Windows said something about an enhancement for my headset, this time it worked for something of an hour, but the same happened in the end. Lastly, the last time it worked was when I decided to uninstall the headset, and reinstall it, then reinstall the LGS, this time it worked for something of 7+ hours ans stopped again
My drivers and updates are up to date. I use the USB cable provided by Logitech. When I use the Jack the same happens, as well as in other devices, but by the fact that sometimes it works again I have hope. OS: Windows 10 home, 64X

I have a problem for a long time with my 5.1 Logitech surround system. My center speaker is not working (physically yes). I have ASUS Maximus Hero VII motherboard. Plugged jack layout: orange: subwoofer/center channel, black: rear speakers, lime: front speakers. E.g.: while I'm watching a film, I can hear every effect clear, but I can't the dialogs, which is the center speaker's task i think. I'm using VLC the config is correct in the program.

I can get it to pair and says it is paired but it says it is disconnected in the playback and recording settings dialog box. Is it possible my devices are too old the Bluetooth dongle is BT2.0 and the headset is a MotorolaT225 hands free speakerphone for my cellphone which works fine. If they are then what headset does work with win10 out of the box?

I just bought a new Asus F555LA-AB31 with Windows 10 from amazon and after about a couple days, the speaker icon in the system tray has a little red X near it. And when hovered over it, it says no audio output is installed. I've tried a multitude of fixes, including reinstalling audio driver, using system restore and restarting Windows audio from services.msc, and none of them work.
My PC Specs:
Intel core i3 5010u
4gb ram
Realtek hd audio
Windows 10

In my right speaker, I have a slight distortion when i hear high-pitched sounds. I checked on my headphones and I dont hear it. I updated my Realtek audio drivers a few times. It improved the first time. I still have a subtle issue and I'm not sure what to do.
I switched the inputs on my speakers and I still seem to be getting it on the right speaker. it might be the speaker, but since it improved with the driver update.

I set up a wake-up alarm in the Computer management --> Task Scheduler that automatically plays a custom mp3 every morning at 7AM.The speaker is in my monitor and it goes sleep 10 min after idle. It's ok, I don't want to keep it turned on for whole nights. But, when the scheduled alarm comes, it does not automatically turn back on the monitor and therefore its speaker doesn't play the MP3 because the monitor remains in sleep.I tired various ways to make the alarm turn the monitor back on but failed.I just need my music file played as an alarm in the mornings.

On Windows 8. 1, I had no issues with this speaker. It's a JBL Charge. After upgrading to 10 it worked fine until a reboot when it failed to connect (it pairs, but won't connect, and the speaker doesn't appear as an audio-out option in Sound settings).
The Bluetooth wizard in PC Settings says "Driver error" next to the speaker icon.
Poking around in device manager, I see this error:
"This device cannot start. (Code 10)
{Conflicting Address Range}
The specified address range conflicts with the address space."
The only references I find to this error online are for different (and quite old) version of windows, and seem unrelated to Bluetooth.
I can't even look at the "resources" tab because it appears to have vanished in Windows 10!

Fresh installed windows 10 and when I plug my sennheiser game zero headset in the 3.5mm jacks I sound like a robot when I try and talk. I have tried talking right after a complete wipe install with usb and no drivers and have also tried after installing the mobo drivers (Gigabyte X79-UP4).

Is there anyway that I can "remaster" sounds on my pc.By "remaster" I mean...like setting the volume of a song e.g. to 90-95% (so I won't lose any frequency- sound) and then set the volume again to sth like 30% (cause my headphones are too loud).I've seen some digital music amps with this feature and i was wondering if this is also possible on the pc. I want this for several sounds ,not just songs..

If you look in C:WindowsMedia, there seems to be some sounds that were created for Windows 10.
Like Windows Logon.wav. Did Microsoft scrap these sounds? For some reason, the option to choose a Log on or Log Off sound doesn't exist in the "Sounds" settings in the Control Panel.

I use a lot of custom sounds on my computer, they are all saved in .wav format. Up to this build of Windows 10TP they have worked.
But since updating to version 10049 they don't work anymore. I can play them from the folder they are in, but if I try and add them to Windows Sounds through the Sounds control panel the icons turn yellow and they won't play.
This may go along with Cortana not talking in this version, and I've found that the Text to Speech function in this version of Windows 10 doesn't function either.

I have a desktop PC (see specs) that is persistently giving two different notification sounds but not showing a banner in the notification area to tell me what is warning/notifying me of. I think I have determined what events are being triggered by changing each notification sound in turn to a distinctive chime that is not used elsewhere. The two events concerned are "Device Connect" and "Device Disconnect". Strangely I seem to receive many more disconnect notifications than connects.
The sounds spoil my enjoyment when listening to music or watching movies etc. Obviously I can switch the sounds off by selecting "none" as the sound to play with these events but, just as obviously, I would like to know what is constantly connecting and/or disconnecting.
I am connected to a home network but I'm connected via ethernet cable and am not attaching or detaching any other equipment when the sounds occur. I'm a bit worried that I'm being scanned over the internet but I'm connected via a cable modem/router. Is there any way to show the reason for these notifications?
BTW, I'm using Windows Defender and Firewall together with the paid version of Malwarebytes.

New desktop pc that came with 1 TB HD.
Debating installing another internal 1 TB HD vs just using an external one. Lots of Photos, and another user with lots of video, etc.
The only advantage that I can see for another internal one is that it is probably. faster than going thru an external USB 3 cable, and of course a bit "neater".
The internal of course involves some installation "work," the formatting and partitioning, etc. Costs not all that different, apparently.

I've had Windows 10 since August, and for the most part, things have been going relatively okay. My only real glaring problem with the OS is that I can no longer here a sound during a system event. By that I mean the usual sounds like when you're clicking through the Explorer, emptying the recycle bin, a dialog pop-up and such.
My system is a Dell Inspiron N4100 that was previously running Win7 Home Premium, and now I'm running Win10 Home Edition. The sound in general works fine; like media players, games, and through the Internet browsers. It's only the system sounds that refuse to play.

I'd like my system sounds slider to stay at 10% of the overall volume. All other volume settings seem to stick. Windows rememebers my overall / winamp / browser etc. volume just fine. Only the system sounds revert to EAR-SPLITTINGLY LOUD at seemingly random times. Sometimes after a restart (but not every time), sometimes in the middle of a Windows session. Is this a known Win10 bug?

So in Windows 8, MS removed the ability to have a login/logoff sound. In Windows 10, the same problem persists.
Interestingly enough, under the C:WindowsMedia folder, there is a file called "Windows Logon" which is a brand new sound from Windows 8, also in 10.
The "Windows Logoff Sound" file is the same as Vista/7, so no change there.
