Speakers Not Working After Install?
Jul 30, 2015
for some reason my USB speakers wont work after installing windows 10. I can hear audio through my headset but not through the speakers. I'm not sure if this has to do with windows 10 or if i'm just doing something wrong.

My speakers are turned up to 100% and I have also checked this in settings. This has only happened since installing Windows 10.
I am on Realtek HD Audio.

I have a 5.1 surround sound speaker system connected to my computer, which has always worked fine when running windows 7, however as soon as I upgraded, windows 10 will not play any sound through them.
- The volume is turned up on the system as well as the speakers
- Not on mute
- Have tried reinstalling the drivers
I can't think what else it would be. When I open up the playback device menu, it says that sound should be playing through the speakers, however I get nothing.
What baffles me is when I open realtek HD Audio manager to test all of the speakers, I can make them play a sample sound through that, however no other applications will play sound.

So I have a problem on my laptop that only some programs can use sound, such as, I'm playing a video on YouTube and on volume mixer it shows Google Chrome in my applications and it shows sound is coming from Google Chrome, but if I open a vlc video on the laptop, I can't hear anything from that and it doesn't show on my laptop. Yesterday I was playing a game, then I got a notification, then my sound stopped working.
Speakers 1.png 8.56KB.0 downloads All my applications that had sound was on this page, then next to Speakers/... there was an arrow pointing down, so I clicked on it and then I saw
Speakers 2.png 17.03KB
0 downloads and then all of the sounds that work was on this page.
All of my drivers are up to date and I didn't have any headphones plugged in when I took those screen shots and when I tried testing out the sounds.

Today I took the plunged into the windows 10 experience. Everything is great and all but my speakers that are plugged into my external monitor, via hdmi, aren't being recognized. I have confirmed that the speakers do still work, by testing them with my phone. My computer does sport an Realtek HD audio device. Windows says the drivers are up to date when checked with device manager for both.
I do know i can plug the speakers straight into my laptop, but the speaker wires aren't long enough to reach to that side of my laptop on my current set up. My external monitor is a g247hl, not that it should matter. plugged into that is a Logitech speaker system and a lenovo speaker system (through a slitter).

Last night I plugged in headphones to the small round jack (not the USB) and sound worked fine as Iistened to a program. When I unplugged the headphones, I cannot get any sound to come out of the computer. I've tried restarting, muting/un-muting, and I've looked at all audio settings I can find. I cannot locate headphones settings - they don't show up anywhere. I recently installed the Windows 10 update a couple of weeks ago and this is the first time I've used headphones in this jack. Wondering if I need updated drivers but can't locate and system says drivers are fine.

My PC is the HP ENVY TouchSmart M7-J120DX with Beats Audio quad speakers and two subwoofers. After running a clean installation of Windows 10, my volume icon had an error "no audio device output" / IDT High Definition Audio Codec. The troubleshooting option did nothing. I uninstalled my audio device, and restarted my pc. My sound is back, but it seems that the middle speakers are the only ones working. My volume icon and sound device now is labeled "High Definition Audio Device" which now sounds substandard, just like those cheap tinny speakers you can find at the dollar store. How to recover my original great-sounding original speakers!

After doing an upgrade from Win 7 to 10, I find that the drag & drop function isn't working. I've tried the fixes found here and on several other forums but no joy. I got the download from MS which also loaded the install files on a thumb drive. I then installed using the "save my files(upgrade)"settings.

My Windows 10 is having major problems. So many that I would rather just remove the entire thing. I found a website that said you can revert to your previous OS in settings, but my problem is I cannot even get there. The entire task bar and start menu are not working, although I can see them. I saw in another post that Windows Logo Key + I opens up settings, but my Windows Logo Key doesn't do anything.
I also cannot click on the notification icon to open up the settings. The few things I can do: double click on desktop icons to open them, right-click on desktop, and Ctrl + Alt + Delete. Task Manager freezes when I open it (Ctrl + Shift + Esc). How can I remove Windows 10 given these constraints? Also, the time on the taskbar is also not changing from when I turned the computer on.
After several restarts the windows button started working, so I took the opportunity to remove Windows 10.

Since installing Windows 10 my desktop will no longer recognise any external microphones, i've tested the microphonse elsewhere and they're working fine. The only place on my pc that will still recognise the microphone is Skype which only shows it in the settings in the form of the green bar moving; Echo and other skype calls will not read the mic.

I reinstalled Windows to try to fix an issue, but it did not work. I am installing my programs to an alternate drive, and would like to install Java there as well. I know about the JRE_HOME environment variable, but it can only point to 32 OR 64-bit Java. Is there any way to have both running simultaneously without need to switch the variable to the 64-bit path? I think that this does happen when I install to the default location, so how can I do that?

I installed the Windows 10 update on two Lenovo Lap top computers. One is an IdealPad, the other a Think Pad Edge.
Within a couple of days the Google Chrome I had installed on both computers slowed to a crawl when trying to open. It can take as much as 45 minutes to open. Once it does, I can use it with ease.
I've uninstalled Chrome and re-installed it several times on both computers. Even installing it now takes over an hour if it downloads at all.
Ran the troubleshooting option in Chrome and it says it is incompatible. Because Chromes trouble shooter doesn't offer the option of running it for the Windows 10 update I tried running it with both OS of Windows 7, which is what the Windows 10 update replaced and the Windows 8 OS as I read somewhere that the 10 version was close to that.

I mean the registry "hack" systemuseslighttheme set to 0, I did a fresh install of build 10586 on my laptop and it isn't working no matter how many times I try, restarting, setting it to 1 or 0 it stays white, I cant stand white backgrounds
I had the exact same build before, everything up to date so I don't see why it isn't working now, the colored windows are working though

I just upgraded to Windows 10 a few days ago and ever since, I've been getting a random popping noise in my speakers. I have tried everything I can think of. I've updated my drivers and my Bios. (From HP site) I've uninstalled and reinstalled the audio (Realtek) driver. This problem never happened in Windows 8. I'm about to switch back to Windows 8.

I recently did the Windows 10 upgrade. Previously, my speakers worked fine. Now, they won't work at all. My monitor has speakers, and they do work when I select the monitor. However, Windows is telling me that my desktop speakers are not plugged in. That's not true of course - they are plugged in the same way they always were before, using the 3-colored jacks.
The speakers are basic Logitech speakers - two desktop speakers and a subwoofer. I found the devices on the Logitech support website, and checked for drivers. Logitech says these speakers have no drivers.

I have the Hyperx Cloud II and the Logitech Z523. The headset is connected with and USB cable and the speakers use the normal 3.5mm jack. It's just annoying to go into playback devices and set it back to either one, so my question is that is there a faster way to do it? Also, I have windows 10...

After upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 my audio now plays through my headset and through my computers speakers.
FAQ:
-Have you updated your drivers: Yes I have.
-Have you set the headset as default device: Yes I have.
-What audio do you have: Ok, I not sure which one I have, but I can find VIA HD and on Windows 8.1 (not on Windows 10) I use to have Realtek audio manager which I have now lost.
-What headset do you have: Sennheiser G4ME ZERO.

Its a Lenovo Carbon laptop (don't have exact model with me now). PC primarily used for gaming, mostly Steam.

I am running the latest version of Windows 10 on an HP all-in-one desktop computer (27-1015t);
When listening to music, from the computer's CD drive or from iTunes, I like to turn off the computer's built-in low-fi speakers and instead listen to a pair of external powered speakers, which are connected to the computer's audio out connector;
Before going from Windows 7 to Windows 10, I could mute the built-in speakers without muting the output from the audio out connector;
Now under Windows 10 I can't find any way to mute the built-in speakers without also muting the output to the external speakers. One might think that the connector where I plug in the external speakers jack would automatically disconnect the internal speakers, ( as is true on iPhones, iPads, and the like) but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Is there any way under Windows 10 to play the external speakers only? Or is that HP's problem rather than Microsoft's? Since I *was* able to do it under Windows 7 but I can't now, it seems like a problem relating to the OS change from 7 to 10.

Realtek HD Changing Jack output reassignments ( FIX ) - I found this old thread but Its not useful because my regedit index doesn't look the same as theirs.
I don't have a "DevType_0888_SS147b1083" or "DevType_0885_SS18490890" folder in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlClass{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}000Settings"
Mine is named "Drv7541_DevType_0889_SS10438418" and I don't know which files I'm supposed to edit there.
This is what it looks like....
