Start Menu Screen Opens For A Split Second And Immediately Closes When Icon Clicked
Aug 26, 2015
At the far bottom left corner of the desktop resides the Windows 10 logo. It is suppose to open to a menu of 3rd party apps and Windows functions.
When I click the icon with a mouse, the menu screen opens for a split second and the immediately closes. This does not allow me enough time to open any 3rd party program on the menu or to employ any of the listed Windows 10 apps.
This also means that I do not have time to click on restart or power down and must do a hard shut down pressing the power button on the computer case.
When I click on the store it opens for a split second and then closes. I tried the wsreset.exe but i get this error ....
I also tried some other powershell commands that were suggested by others on some sites but i get the error that 'AppxManifest.xml' file was not found.
Now Edge is not a browser I intend to use full time but was asked to try Netflix in it to figure out another problem, see my Netflix thread on that one.
Every time I go to open edge I get the blue window to come up and then everything for it closes down. Looking at task manager while this happens I see it jump from open app to background process to then fully closed, nothing listed in task manager.
Once in a while it stays open long enough that I can see the address bar and other of its UI elements start to render before it vanishes.
The message is not fixed but repeats each time I log in. This problem occurred shortly after upgrading from W7. It then recently corrected itself. Now it is doing it again.
When I turn on my pc, the calendar and mail app is visible and pinned in the start menu. I opened Mail app, started using my PC. After a while clicked start menu to open an application and I noticed the calendar and mail app is gone. So I searched both apps and tried to pin it back to the start menu but when I right click, the only option I have is "Unpin from Start" which means it is there but invisible and there pinned location in the Start Menu is blank and there's nothing to click on.
After installing (upgrading) from windows 7, I can see the start menu button. When I click on it, there is no reaction. Also the search button , store button and the calculator button. I already started up the computer many times but that is not working. What to do to fix it?
When i click on the Store, it opens, but crashes immediately after half a second. I watched various videos on YouTube looking for "the cure", but none of it worked (like PowerShell, than cmd where I typed "sfc scannow", etc.)
Ok, so I am having a strange problem. In my PC's admin account, when I attempt to switch users by: Start Menu > (click user account) The start menu disappears / rolls back down. I cannot switch users this way, but this only affects my admin account. What can I do to make it work like normal?
All forums seem to stay it is common but to open word and then do certain steps but I cannot get either word or excel to stay open long enough to do those steps?
when I try to open a specific app (Plex), it opens that one plus another one (iTunes). I've tried reorganizing the tiles, removing them then pinning them back again but it still happens. I made sure I have the latest updates installed.
Sometime over the last month or so, every time fire-up my laptop, the start menu is open. I can click anywhere outside it and it will close, and does behave normally. It's more annoying than trouble. I don't consider myself a noob, but this is perplexing as I cannot find a setting to start up the OS without the start menu being open. Maybe a reg hack?
My assumption is MS did this in some recent update trying to introduce me to their new way of thinking. I only think this as after I upgraded to 10, I deleted all the tiles in the start menu that I didn't want. One day about a month ago, more came back. I figured it was MS trying to sell me on tiles, yet again.
1. Win S launches Cortana. 2. A desktop shortcut to Cortana works. 3. The start menu Cortana shortcut launches Store (it was working at some point..)
Win 10 is now running... well, actually quite smoothly- as far as I know, this is the only oddity (until I turn over another stone..)
I normally use Classic shell, and don't use Cortana. However, having found changing settings has disrupted Cortana, I sometimes check- I feel I've seen a comment about this somewhere.
Windows icon, search bar, Edge icon which are at bottom left in task bar, when clicked pops up a message saying CRITICAL ERROR, then causes my computer to restart. How do I fix this?
My assistant in the other room accidentally unplugged the router and I lost connection. I told her to plug back in. I clicked the correct connection when it appeared, but I did it too soon. From that point on, when I clicked the systray icon, nothing happened...no display of available connections. Over and over I tried clicking the systray icon and no window popped up to show available connections. If I hovered over the icon, it did say connections available..
Then I right-clicked and went into the Network & Sharing Center. I could never find where it showed available connections like in Windows 7.
Finally, I had to reboot and I had my connection back.
If this happens again, where can I find available connections so I don't have to reboot? Or even better, is there a way to get the systray icon to again be responsive?
Just wanted to reduce c size, used aomi freeware to split c, after restart laptop just won't boot, how can i solve it, is there a chance to keep all data?!
My Start Screen very weird recently. I can't drag icon app to Start, I can't drag to organize app on Start, when I right click on app, only "More" appears, other options just gone,
So I upgraded to Windows 10 and so far everything seems to be working fine however the one problem I've had is a problem with the icons for Google Chrome and Origin on the start menu. The Chrome icon is really over sized compared to what it should be and is on a black background and the Origin icon has a black background. I've looked everywhere online and can't find a solution, I don't really want to reinstall Google Chrome, I reinstalled origin and it didn't fix it.
This is what it looks like: [URL]
I want it to look like my sisters does: [URL]
Also even though I've tried updating it, chrome still looks like the windows 7 version than the windows 10.
On the start menu each application / file has an associated icon. Unfortunately it appears that Windows 10 is using the accent color as the icon's background. So I get squares of color with the icon in the middle. There are screen shots from Windows 10 previews that show the icon backgrounds as transparent, or at least matching the background color of the start menu. But with transparency turned on, the icon backgrounds are not transparent, but instead the accent color.
It is as if Microsoft said "Hey - ALL icons should be SQUARE - so we will make all icons SQUARE just like tiles, whether you like it or not".
So - how does one make the start menu icon background color transparent?
Since installing windows 10 on my old dell, i am having major problems. The Computer is very slow, and is probably too old to properly run the new Windows, but the biggest issue is that after a restart, i am seeing a split screen display with a line through the centre of the screen, and i can find no way to get it back to a single display. After multiple more restarts it has gone back to one screen, but i am now getting two again. In case i am not being clear, here is a photo of what i am seeing.
I wonder if there is a way (through editing system files or registry) to change Windows 10 Start Menu "All apps" to something else like "My Programs". Also where is the icon file located in the system and how to change the default icon.
My start button on windows 10 does not do anything and the edge icon is missing from taskbar. I have tried sfc / scanner in powershell and nothing different....
I have Pinned a few sites to the start menu using Microsoft Edge. My problem is that all of them have the same "E" edge (internet explorer) icon. So unless I keep them at large size, or remember in what order they were pinned/arranged, I have no clue which pin is for which site.
When you click "Pin To Start" in the options menu in Edge, where are those pins stored?
