Start don't work, and Computer is 5 times slower. We used, sfc/scannow a bunch of times with a restate each time but didn't work at all. We were thinking about uninstalling windows 10 back to Windows 7. The computer ran windows 10 for about 2 weeks just fine and then this happened.
Soooo, for the last 3-5 days my computer hangs, I can still move the mouse around, but everything becomes unresponsive! Most the time it requires a restart...
I've tried - - Virus Check (Will Do One Again) - Registry Clean - Windows Files Check (Make Sure They Are Not Corrupt) - Clean Drive Out (Junk)
But I think, it might be my harddrive, I checked speeds and at first it was 170mbps (Read) but as soon as I say open a program, smacks down to about 0.9mbps...
Even on Task Manager, I never see the drive speed go above 5mbps
My laptop is running windows 10 32bit pro and ever since upgrading, the computer boots to a black screen but there are other times it will boot up correctly....
I started my windows 10 update around 10:00 last night. For awhile it seemed stuck in suspend mode (black screen, monitor light orange, computer light still on etc) and I was worried but eventually I got the update screen and it went from 30% to 56% in around 30 minutes or so.The bottom screen said my computer would turn off and on again multiple times. But then later it went back to the "suspend mode" again right before I fell asleep and now 9 hours later it's still stuck like this!! No update screen no nothing. Just sitting is a suspend mode (I think!) And not allowing me to do anything.
Got W10, rebooted several times during the process. W10 takes an average 30-35 seconds longer than W8.1 to boot up, and then proceeds to roast my CPU for about 1/2 hr before it settles down, for about 2 mins, then starts roasting it again. During this time, my RAM shoots up to 80% usage.
Again, I rebooted plenty of times, I feared for my high end HP laptop, so I rolled back to W8.1. I will have to wait until MS has its crap together on this one.
On the start menu, the tiles that I made small sometimes half disappear for some reason. Also, not all of my small tiles half disappear, it's only some of them. If I restart the problem is fixed but it usually comes back later.
I installed Windows 10 from Windows 7 and I have some minor problems with the start menu. When I search for an installed program most of the times it wont find it but instead it will show me to look it on the web. I believe that it has a connection with the fact that the menu "All apps" doesn't show all apps but only some of them.
I am on 64 bit Windows 10 Pro 10586.29. Before the last 2 updates, my system, with a 512GB SSD would shut down in 4 to 5 seconds. Since the last 2 updates, it has gone from a very fast 5 seconds to about 15 to 20 seconds.
Have upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10 a few times already and keep going back to Win 7 'cause it system slows down (start up and shutdown) after second reboot on Win 10.
It takes about 30 seconds to load on Win with all kinds of installed programs. Win 10 takes at least twice the amount and i have barely loaded anything yet.
Whenever I'm installing a big game(say 28GB), Windows 10 gets bogged down and sluggish. I can't even watch movies without them getting slowed down every now and then. Whatever program/folder I double-click takes a lot longer to open up. I don't recall this happening on Windows 7 Ultimate. Why is this happening?
My Rig:

I just replaced my old router (Linksys WRT54G) to a Linksys x1000. However, my download speed is slower than the previous router I had. I tried the following things to resolve this problem:
Upgrading to the latest firmware version;Updated my wireless network card drivers to the latest version;Switching between different channels (channel 1 and 5 and default channel). I have set Network Mode to: Mixed and I set Channel Width to Automatic (20 or 40 MHz).
When using my old router I had an average download speed of 1 MB/sec while using the new router I can't get pas 500 KB/sec. In both cases I was sitting next to the router.
Oh, and by the way, there's also a port on the router named DSL. It looks like it doesn't matter whether I connect that port to my modem. How come? What's its function?
This didn't happen right away. They worked fine for a month or so. It is not the ISP, my ISP is very reliable, they consistently give me the bandwidth I am supposed to get. 20MB down 2MB up. The problem laptop averages 0.3MB down and 1.5MB up.
The other hosts on my home network are not having any problems. I have another Win 10 Machine that was upgraded from Win 7 that is working just fine. One Ubuntu client and one more Win 7 client.
Fixes I attempted:
I went to the HP website and applied the recommended updates.
Checked Microsoft updates - none were suggested or required.
I removed and readded the network adapter drivers. Several times.
The hardware in question is:
HP Envy 17t Laptop OS: Windows 10 Pro Version 1511 (OS Build 10586.36) Wireless:Broadcom BCM43142 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi Adapter driver: 6.223.215.14 Ethernet:Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller Adapter driver: 10.1.505.2015
There are 2 specific websites that we were able to access just fine (about a week ago) on our home computer, phone, and tablet (at home) and on any browser.
Now, we cannot access these sites (gives 'server taking too long to respond' and ERR Connection Timed Out' through ANY browswer at our home and we CAN access them ONLY thru Firefox at our Shop/Business computer. (which uses the same ISP as our home, btw).
We have spent hours on the phone with our ISP and he did everything you could think of: Checked our Router, gave us a completely new IP, checked DNS, flushed DNS. Our sites would work when he checked them through I guess different proxy servers. And I CAN access them ONLY thru something like: Ninjaproxy.com.
These websites are through GoDaddy. We contacted them and they said they could access them fine, too.
I have increased timeout thru registry.
FireWall being on or off makes no difference
Ran various Antivirus, found no threats.
Checked both websites in question at Downforme.org and downforeveryoneorjustme.com. Both state it is 'Just You' that both sites are up and running/online.
I am thinking maybe a System Reset/Restore may work, but haven't tried that, yet.
WTF could this all mean? WHY are ONLY OUR COMPUTERS being blocked, yet various other friends (even with same ISP as us) can access them just fine?
Redirect Virus? DNS issues? Blocked/Hacked? Go Daddy or our ISP at fault?
A few days ago, I upgraded my Windows 7 laptop to Windows 10 and took Cortana for a bit of a test drive. It wasn't great but it might be useful on some occasions.
Today, I bought a brand new laptop which installed Windows 10 when I powered it on. After the installation, I was checking things out a bit and wanted to verify that Cortana was working on the new laptop. Cortana promptly told me it was not available in this region!
This makes no sense to me. I was in Southern Ontario, Canada, both times (although in different cities within the area). I can't believe that Cortana would work in London Ontario but NOT in Kitchener Ontario, which is only an hour east of London.
my start button wont work, i cannot restart my computer and even from the sign on screen the only option i ave it to shut down. my icons are still on the taskbar but i cannot view them and when i open my browsers its deleting my last sessions even when i have them saved to appear each time i open the browser. my time and date is gone as well as any viable option to get to my drivers and computer settings. the only thing ive been able to get to is the actio of using the windows button and pressing r but each seach i get an error message that anything i type cant be found.
I've this weird issue with my Start bar, search bar and various Windows related things.
Start Menu - It won't appear at all, can't left click it. Search Bar - Does nothing at all. Shortcuts - They function and I can rearrange them but I cannot right click them.
Various windows related things are also being extremely slow or unresponsive, The task manager for example takes ages to appear. Navigating the control panel is fine but the Windows 10 settings area is odd, I can't create a new user(clicking it does nothing) and when I explore the "Start" part of personalization, checking any of the options takes about 30 seconds to register.
when i click on the start button, either right or left click, there is absolutelyno kind of response. i cannot get to the control panel, nor turn off the laptop, nor anything else. the stupid thing is only two months old
My computer tech had me download Windows 10 on my husband's computer. While we were using it last night the Start button quit working. Part of the toolbar were deleted also. It appears this is a common Windows 10 issue. I have tried all the fixes I can find, but am hesitant to download from unknown sources.
See my post below about upgrade issues. I just downloaded and installed the old Windows 7 games. I went to start to find them and up came this error. A blue rectangle appears on the screen and says they will try to fix it when I sign out and in again. I have just done that three times. I have also switched users. The other user has the start menu working just fine. Stupidly I am back to my own login so I can't tell you exactly what the error message says.
Is there any other way to access programs (apps as they are now called) other than via the start menu?
