Start Menu Tiles And Notification / Open Action Centre Disappeared
Aug 12, 2015
Strange, my start menu left click that used to open the coloured start menu with 'tiles' has stopped working. I can only right click to access the 'grey' listing. If I do left click I see the blue spinning wheel for a couple of seconds but nothing appears.
Also the icon for 'New Notifications' has stopped as well, when clicked I used to see a slide out popup asking me if I would recommend W10 to a friend but not now. If I right click to 'Open Action Centre' nothing happens.
Since upgrading to Win10 I've noticed as in the title, my action centre won't play any sounds or toast banner notify me at all. When I get an email in gmail, I'll see the icon in the taskbar go white, but absolutely no sounds or anything.
I've checked the settings and they're turned on, so I'm at a loss at what could cause it. Quiet hours are off as well.
I have recently upgraded to Windows 10 Home (64bit) from Windows 7 Home (64bit). I am having problems that I cannot find a fix to in the common faults section. As in the title, my start button is not working. The action center, settings and task manager are not working also. Other problems I am having are: I cannot open a new user account, I cannot log into my guest account or one of my main accounts and I cannot log into cmd as administrator by right clicking on it in the task bar. I have tried to fix the start menu my opening powershell as administrator and pasting some code into it, but it did not work.
When I click on the start button, nothing happens. It highlights when I hover over it, but doesn't react to being clicked. The same is true for the notification area.I can right click on the start button and it provides the normal options.Again the same is true of the notification button.
I have the settings app pinned to the taskbar, but the icon is not visible.I know that it is still recognised as being there, as it highlights when I hover over it, and it holds its place like any visible icon would.Right clicking it does nothing. At first, the start menu was the only thing not responding. The notification panel was working, as I remember changing to 'tablet mode' to try to resolve it.I restarted the computer, but that was when I discovered that notification panel was no longer working. I don't know the state of the settings icon before I restarted.I have also restarted into safe mode, but the problem still occurs.I have not downloaded any new software since it started occurring.I have checked the task manager and there appears to be no change in performance.
I have yet to find a way to get my outlook emails to appear in the Action Centre.
In the notifications settings I turned off "Mail" notifications..the app and turned on Outlook notifications. This however only provides me with pop up banners/notifications when an email comes in but still dosent show an email in the action centre.
I have added Facebook, Twitter and eBay from App store and expected them to start showing up in Action Centre.
I have been searching to see why i would be having this issue but struggling to find anything. As all the tutorials for enabling i believe i have done!
The apps do not even show up in the list to enable see here .
On a 2nd note, what 6ef43.rbf app is? I cannot find it on my system.
I was having the common problem updating to KB3122947, where it would simply fail to install. As far as I know, there were a few ways to resolve this, and I found the top answer here worked. Ever since, I've not been getting Mail notifications in the action centre, besides the fact that no settings have changed and I've checked both in the Windows settings and in Mail settings that they are enabled to notify.
as the tiltle says, I can't launch start menu or action center anymore. I tried some solutions for an older, Insider build that was having the same issue but no luck. It's been a week since I can't get it to work.
I've noticed that periodically, whatever program that powers the Action Center, the Start Menu, and some of the icons in tht Notification Area locks up and I don't know how to restart it.
I won't be doing anything of note at at the time and all of a sudden, all of the above stops. Restarting explorer doesn't do it. Forcing into and out of tablet mode doesn't do it either.
I've had this problem for a while and with every build it doesn't get fixed. When I open the start menu the tiles don't appear. Screenshot should say it all.
In particular, Windows Update tile which was created by right-clicking on Update & security box in settings and selecting Pin to Start. The tile opens up the Windows Update page and I would like to rename the tile to say Windows Update ( or Win Update if the longer name won't fit) rather than Update & sec...
This happens when I click "All Apps" in the Start menu followed by scrolling/clicking. The icons also get pixelated and blurry. The issue seemed to be related to Intel HD4600 graphic as the issue did not surface when I disabled it and run solely on discrete GPU on my laptop. [URL]
Im trying to sort out a problem, recently I noticed that I cant add tiles to the start menu, I cant delete ones already there, I cant move them where I want them to be and that the *context* menu that appears when I right click on the tiles already pinned to the start menu only contains the work "more" with an arrow that opens a sub menu giving me a few options but nothing about unpinning from the start menu or choosing the size of the tile, I am given the option to pin to the taskbar (ive tried it and that does work). Searching for answers in the forum I came across one called "cannot move start menu tiles".
As a last resort and one I was sure would sort the problem out, and that was to perform an upgrade repair. Well it made no difference to my start menu tiles. I have windows 10 loaded on an older hp laptop (cq57) and the whole process took slightly more that 6 hours to complete. Since I don't often customise my start menu tiles I cant say when the problem began and therefore narrow the cause down to a conflict with an installed program or something else. I do remember that about a month ago that my pc took a long time to shut down but no error messages popped up and it did eventually shut down. I also remember that suddenly my Microsoft office outlook 2016 started freezing when I used the program to create a new email or when I replied to an email I received.
In trying to sort out that problem I think I may have caused this start menu tile problem, I read somewhere on the internet that I needed to belong to a special group of administrators to perform one of the things I had to do. It didn't change anything after I joined this special group so I uninstalled ms office and then reinstalled it and the new email, reply to an email was working fine. That's when I noticed the start menu tile problem and that was about a month ago. One thing I read somewhere that I need to modify an administrator template.
At the moment windows seems to allow only two groups of tiles to be next to each other horizontally. If a third fourth or fifth group is added they are dropped below the first two groups.
Is it possible to have three groups of tiles (Group size - 3 medium tiles next to each other) next to each other in the start menu?
I have already tried the full screen start menu which does not solve the issue either.
After I fixed that annoying ass BSoD error I have been getting by doing a reset of the system NOW I am getting the error "Some settings are managed by your organization" under the Personalization/Start tab.
I can't edit ANY of them despite doing so just after updating and it's really starting to annoy me.
Is it possible to change the edge icon on the tile to one from a web site such as Google or Ccleaner etc. on a small tile. Some come that way automatically, but for others one has to hover the mouse over to see the text.
When I first installed Windows 10 the Start Menu had categories like "Life at a glance" and so on. However, I removed all of the tiles because at that time I felt like I didn't need them.
Now, I would really like to have the News tile and Weather tiles back but adding them to Start Menu doesn't seem to be able to activate the Animated versions that I had of these tiles when I first installed Windows 10. Like shown:
As you can see in the above image the "News tile" has a live picture and title relating to certain news whilst mine is a static tile and doesn't act this way. I have tried turning Live Tile on and also making the tile larger in size.
I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make the tiles animated again.
Just a question about the default start menu/tiles. Originally I didn't like the look of the tiles so I removed them however now I'm thinking I may actually like them. So is there a way I can get the default start menu/tiles back?
I cannot move the tiles on the start menu. As soon as I try to click and drag one it immediately disapears, only to reappear in the original location when I reboot.
Everything else seems to work with them, I can pin new apps (although I haven't worked out how to get them in a correct group) unpin and resize.
I remember that after I had upgraded to Windows 10, my local account wasn't available and the system logged me in with a temporary profile. Then when I logged in with my account, some of the tiles from the start menu had disappeared. I've tried opening powershell and executing the "GetAppx" command line, but that didn't work. I don't even know what the cause of it is.
What I did was simply refresh my PC, preserving my personal files and documents, although I'll have to re-install a few of my apps. But the start menu appears to be back to it's usual state. Still not sure who is at fault though, me or Microsoft...? :/
Maybe it's just me, but it is my opinion that the OS build is buggy (I have 10586.0).
