I recently upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. At first everything was working fairly smoothly; however, just recently, my startup programs are not starting up when I turn on my computer. Certain programs that are Enabled in my Startup menu are OneDrive, Google Drive, Growl, etc.
I have a Lenovo Ideapad U410.
Whenever I start Windows 10, early on in the boot cycle I get a Firefox Window. As the system continues to initialize the Firefox window slowly come to life, though sometimes not fully.
I've checked all the obvious places, Task Manager, c;usersuser_nameAppDataRoaming
I must have put this in for some reason but can't think of why / how.
I want to get rid of it. How to do so?
Installed MSI's "Fast boot" software, upon restarting every time I am greeted with a bluescreen mentioning it not detecting a device.
MSI Fast boot also seems to increase the time it takes for the mouse and keyboard to start so when it asks "Press enter to Retry, or F8 to change settings" i cannot do anything as the keyboard and mouse are not on.
If its possible to fix this without reinstalling.
I was having some issues with my previous build (Insider), and hard disk crashing, I went and did a full wipe and a clean install.
Unfortunately, some of my programs refuse to add to startup even when the "Start with Windows" option is checked. I've tried completely removing the programs and re-installing and they simply will not start with Windows like they should.
Aside from manually overriding the situation, (which is a workaround, and not a fix), how to resolve this?
In task manager I can see all programs which are supposed to start together with windows, however, none is starting. Every time I start windows I have to start these programs manually.
View 9 RepliesWindows keeps telling me to disable three programs that start when the computer does, but the 'disable' button in the startup menu on task master is grayed out and will not function. I have followed all the directions, which basically haven't changed for this version of windows and repeated the effort several times, but am unable to modify these programs.

View 18 RepliesI am experiencing an issue with my computer that has been occurring since I upgraded to Windows 10. At startup, I can launch any program fine. However, after about 30 minutes or so of inactivity (I've never actually timed it), I loose the ability to launch programs. I double click on an application, Chrome, Edge, Steam, File Folders, anything, and it just doesn't seem to register. I can bring up the Start Menu screen, but launching from there as opposed to the task bar or desk top gets me the same result. I get the circle icon for a second as if it is thinking, but it never launches. I cannot even launch Task Manager without hitting Ctrl+Alt+Del and launching it that way. When I do, the programs I attempt to open do not appear in the list. My only recourse is to reboot the computer and then it works fine again.

Since 2 or 3 weeks when I switch on my notebook, after loading my desktop it hangs loading startup programs.When it hangs, I can't even shut down, I have to press the power button 4 seconds to shut down.It happened with my 3 notebooks, but it remains only in one of them.This problem remains in an HP EliteBook 8540w running Windows 10 Pro 64 bits. In this notebook I had uncheck the "Turn on fast startup (recommended)" when I installed Windows 10, because it didn't shut down properly.I don't know what to do, I tried SFC and DISM tool, both found errors but were unable to correct them.
View 5 RepliesI'm trying to run programs upon boot in W10 but it doesn't work.I have put them in Start folder and if I go to Task manager I can see the programs are there as well in Startup tab and enabled...but they will not start. I have to manually launch them anyway.I found out a thread where someone was able to get a fix in the same situation by going to taskbar and menu properties and selecting 'use the Start menu instead of start screen' but my menu has no such tab.
How to try to get them programs to launch upon boot. The machine was just freshly clean installed with W10 and it has but a couple of programs on it - exactly the programs I'd like to auto-start. Done all windows updates as well. Another machine of mine developed a weird glitch in that the start menu doesn't suddenly work at all.It just raises a red box in the middle of screen saying something like 'oops your start menu doesn't seem to work but don't worry, we'll fix it up for the next boot' and then it promptly reboots, but whatever I try it doesn't get fixed.
I have updated the machine several times without issues and it works fine, just can't use the start at all or it reboots...been using it for a month now as it is now, got the big updates and all...but it doesn't get fixed. Start menu would sometimes be rather convenient in a machine, no?
The latter machine I might just re-install clean anew. I have 7 windows boxes all now W10 and it appears every one needs to be freshly clean installed to W10 before they really start working well.
Some (3, out of maybe 20) of my installed Programs, all working perfectly well, are not listed in Control Panel -> Programs and Features.

On checking with autoruns I found that they occurred twice in the registry under

I searched in Settings, I searched for the name of the working program to find out in which file it is hidden to joint the second there but I don't find anything.

View 4 RepliesI have a problem where if I shut down properly, (not sleep, re-start or any other such incomplete close down) then during the night my computer will apparently attempt to start itself but it sticks with just the window icon on the screen. It is frozen at this point and I have to crash the computer before I can start it properly. I have to resort to crashing the system instead of shutting down to prevent this happening each night.

So I am in the process of upgrading my other PC to windows 10 from 7 home premium. It has been stuck at the blue screen that says "Setup is starting" with a hourglass. My mouse (the hourglass) still functions correctly but nothing else has moved.
View 1 RepliesAs per title the three applications are the stock Windows Calculator, Movies & TV, and Photos. All three always start up together. I've never seen it happen when I'm actually using the computer but if you leave it unattended for an hour or so when you come back they'll probably be there.
This never happened with Windows 7 prior to updating. I've considered maybe it might be some multi-media keyboard combination mixed with a stuck key but an nkro test doesn't show any key registering when it's not being pressed and no amount of deliberate keyboard mashing has made any of the applications start up.
No other problems with Windows 10, just this one bizarre issue.

In Windows 7, and before, in Explorer, I could start to type a name of a file that I wanted and Explorer would jump down to that file, but under Windows 10, it automatically starts doing a search of the folder. As such, I am forced to scroll down and find the file manually. There has to be a way to disable the automatic search feature and let it run like before.
View 9 RepliesI have a ASUS N53S and after having upgraded to windows 10, I came across a few issues. The update when well and windows 10 is working on my laptop, however, I have an issue where I am presented with a black screen when i start my computer. I do see a ASUS screen and a windows boot screen before it goes black, however after the windows boot screen passes (the one with the blueish window icon) the screen goes to black, but it is still on (meaning the monitor is still turned on just not displaying anything). This issue occur after i restart ( few days before doesn't on the laptop). I try to on and off the laptop for few times but still the same problem and the last time i restart again and left it for a night and it doesn't change which still in black screen. So, now what should i do to let it display with desktop since now still in black screen with movable mouse.
