Startup Gets Stuck With Dash On Screen
Oct 7, 2015I've seen the regular dashes on startup, but now, a dash comes up on the screen, and doesn't move. It just stays stuck.

View 1 RepliesSo i don't know what happened to my computer last night (Maybe it did an automatic update) I did a normal shutdown, and in the morning after I couldn't boot my Windows 10. It won't go pass the black screen with the blinking dash. I don't want to do a fresh install. I got all my important files in this computer.
View 1 RepliesWhen I turn on my laptop, it shows a black screen with non-flashing dash on top left after Lenovo logo. I did the clean install but it didn't work. After that,I tried to clean install Windows 10 on my old HDD and it works! Why my SSD isn't work?
P.S. It can enter the BIOS menu
What does it mean when you see a black screen that has a grey flashing dash located at the top left-hand corner of the screen? It moves down a bit before finally moving onto the Windows 10 logo, where it sometimes gets stuck and reboots (and the grey dash screen appears again before moving on).
I noticed this issue both during upgrade (when it failed and tried to recover the installation) and after installation. This issue occurred on an Acer Aspire Z5801. It does not occur on Windows 7.
I have msi laptop Windows 7 now I updated online to Windows 10 and reset. After reset now my laptop screen is blank and dash line blinking on top left side. Nothing working tried lot by pressing f10, f2, ctrl+alt+del...
View 7 RepliesI was instructed to use Selective Startup to get Quicken installed (didn't work), and now I can't get out!
This is a laptop that has been stuck with the Microsoft account login (cannot fix it as other options are grayed out). I cannot login with my Microsoft login (says password is wrong), but I can get in using just the Admin. acct., with same password.
Using Admin. acct., I cannot get out of Selective Startup, most items are grayed out, or if I can select options (Enable from Disabled), then I get an error that things cannot be changed.
So I recently upgraded to windows 10, the Installion performed successfully, I selected my account and chose the express settings, after this I was presented a green screen with a series of dots spinning, I let this run for well over two hours in which nothing had changed, after waiting I did a hard shutdown.
When loading up it gave me a blue screen where I had some options to choose my os, where I selected windows 10, the screen then went black with the windows logo, then the green screen returned, I then went to bed and upon waking up it was still stuck on that green screen.
I tried clicking, escape, when pressing Ctrl alt del I was presented a navy blue screen with a few options, network status, ease of access and shutdown options. I've done multiple restarts, on the blue screen where you select os i have tried safe mode and now I am attempting to restore previous build.
I started my computer and came back to find it at a error screen with the smiley face saying that information needs to be collected then I can restart. It displayed and error code and mentioned something about a driver error. I waited until it reached 100%, but it didn't restart on its own so i shut the computer down manually by holding the power button on my case. Then it booted up, but it got stuck on the spinning circle of dots.
I have been able to press Esc, CTRL+ALT+DEL and F2 while at the spinning circle which bring me to the login screen but without the box to enter my pin, however, I am able to access the network, ease of access and power options. I have tried restarting, shutting down, and holding shift while restarting in an effort to boot with safe mode but none have gotten me farther than the spinning circle.
In the diagnostic startup mode there's no search so I can't run msconfig. Is there another way to do run this? I got to where I'm at now by running msconfig, staying on the general tab (not the boot), unchecking normal startup, then checking diagnostic. No matter what I've tried (including combing this forum and searching online) I still can't get out of diagnostic startup. There are other things going on with my PC, such as at least one virus, the Trojan Zeus Banker. I'd like to try a couple of more things before I put my PC in the shop and probably pay mucho dinero.
View 1 RepliesI have a Lenovo G500 upgraded to Windows 10. Last night I switched it off but now when I turn it on, it stuck in the startup Lenovo logo. I think that it is a driver issue but I cannot boot it in safe mode to fix it? What can I do? ( I don't mind to lose my files) .
View 1 RepliesAfter an update to Windows 10 I started getting "invalid register key" errors with every open. I restored a previous registry value prior to the last update and still go the error. Instructed to boot up in safe mode but as I logon using my microsoft account, safe mode does not open wifi connection and the password cannot be verified. At least I think that is what is happening as I reset my microsoft account password using another computer and it is still refusing the password on the windows 10 machine. Is there anyway around the password request and get the computer to boot up in regular mode?
View 1 RepliesI just recently got a new pc it had windows 8 but i upgraded to windows 10 it was good for a week until today, I tried to boot it up and its stuck at the windows logo and then it says "preparing automatic repair " and it keeps on beeping. I tried to find bios but i couldn't find it, i pressed every key but no bios. I then put a windows 8 disk but it doesn't have an option to boot from cd/dvd. Msi motherboard ...

1. If I try to select normal startup in msconfig.exe, it doesn't stick; always reverts to selective startup.
2. When I boot to the Windows 10 desktop, it always opens a Windows Explorer window at /windows/system/ which shows only a Speech folder in the right panel.
3. Checking my BootManager using BCDEdit, I see this but I don't understand what the entries mean or whether any of them are connected to the problems 1 and/or 2:
Code:

I tried to reset my computer today after 3 years of using it without any sort of re-formatting, and all three times the reset got stuck on 65% before a blue screen appeared and said that an error occurred. It would then give me the options of either:
a) returning back to my windows 10, with nothing changed
b) Trying to reset again
c) advanced options.
I tried the reset 3 times, and after the last try failed I went to advanced options to look at other ways to approach the issue, such as checking if there were any restore points that I could restore to (which there were none).
After that didn't work, I clicked on the first option of just returning back to my windows 10, and that was when it would not start up anymore.
My computer now is stuck on a infinite loop of the launch screen of the ASUS logo, it flashes, then goes onto the second ASUS logo, and this is all it does, go round and round.
I tried to boot it on F8, F9 (the ASUS recovery button), and the 'delete' button. NOTHING WORKS.
I finally tried F2, which led me to the BIOS page? And I clicked on the boot tab and disabled the first boot configuration option, and still to no avail. It returned to looping, and when trying F8, F9, after disabling that BIOS option, and it still won't do anything but loop.
During startup automatic repair launches, restart ensues, that's the loop. The error mssg is WDF violation which it seems is related to iTunes. I just can't get out of this loop to do anything about it. I don't have a boot disc. Safe mode is what I would like, but that doesn't work.

View 1 RepliesI recently downloaded windows 10 and am currently using it, since then whenever I boot up geometry dash from steam, the games music would be replaced by the sound of crackling which is very bad. I have a texture pack installed on geometry dash.
View 1 RepliesI upgraded to Win 10 on Friday, and since, despite several resetting PC attempts, Win 10 will not load to the login screen. Instead, it is stuck on a loop flashing between the lock screen and a gray loading screen quickly back to the lock screen -- instead of loading to the login screen. This only happens when I attempt to restart or update my PC. If I go to the lock screen because I locked my PC or it fell asleep, I can unlock it. I have also attempted to reset my PC to the previous build, to no avail. I have no restore points.
View 1 RepliesIs there a way to disable the on screen keyboard on startup?
I don't need it on my desktops or my Surface pro...
I'm having a weird issue since i installed windows 10, After installing, drivers, apps, etc., suddenly after using the PC for a few days, after startup apps finish loading and everything, when i try to open any application (browser, explorer, something with uac prompt, anything..) The screen flashes and turns off for a second and then everything come back to normal, This is my 2nd fresh installation for windows 10, I thought there could be something wrong with the drivers, i double checked them, I even replaced all of the apps that i used to have! , spent lots of time to look for alternatives (Avira instead of Kaspersky, 7zip instead of WinRAR, etc.),

When running windows 7, for the first few seconds upon booting my laptop, it would display a startup message,
"Press ESC for boot selection, F2 for setup, etc......."
Now, nothing. I cannot choose to enter setup, BIOS, get to ESC for a boot selection screen in case I might want to boot from a flash drive or a floppy just once. How to get it back either.
On Friday, I updated my HP Envy 20 to Windows 10. Once the update was finished my computer started up fine, however, my antivirus software (AVG) said there was an update and I needed to restart. I did so and after the restart and HP logo screen I had a black, but luminescent screen. After a maybe ten minutes of the screen staying like this, I held the power button down to turn the computer off and then restarted it with no problems. I turned it off Friday night normally and it ran normally all day Saturday. Sunday when I turned the computer on the power light came on and I could hear the fans turn on, but the screen remained black. Just black, not even a luminescent black like when I did the antivirus restart. I tried a hard restart like before but nothing changed. I left the computer on like that for around an hour and nothing changed. Figuring it was maybe a heat issue, I opened up the case and dusted the fan and the heat sink but the problem remains. I posted this problem on the HP support board a few days ago and have heard nothing.
