On Windows 7 when you click on the icon for an open application on the quick-launch (taskbar) it toggles that app being in front or not. On Windows 10 it is closing the application. See image.
In Windows 10 is there a way to change the behaviour so it does NOT close the application when you click on the icon on the taskbar?
I upgraded Win 8.1 Pro to Win 10 Pro and I find that when I pin folders to the Quick Access, that they disappear from there the next time I start my laptop.
View 9 RepliesI upgraded to Windows 10 today, however the start menu will not open, and only certain items work when I right click on the windows icon. Also, the quick launch icons on the task bar do not work, and won't even let me right click them.
View 1 RepliesI did a clean install, using the Media Creation Tool, of Windows 10 Pro x64 on my Maingear Shift computer (i7 processor, 16 GB RAM) a few weeks ago. I created a number of Quick Launch icons (to the right of the Start Button), and they have survived several weeks and innumerable reboots as I reinstalled all of my programs. This morning, out of the blue, (no programs installed for week now) and no changes to the computer of which I am aware, the Quick Launch icons themselves do not appear. The area of the toolbar, which shows Quick Launch is enabled (you can see the double bars on either side), is there, but there are no icons inside of the Quick Launch area.
I have run sfc /scannow and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth from an elevated command prompt. SFC reported no resource integrity violations, and DISM reported that the restore operation was successful.
I also followed the POWERSHELL instructions in this Microsoft article: [URL] .... but it had no effect, though it too reported success.
What is interesting is that when I go the left column of the Start Menu, and under "Most Used" and right click on Google Chrome, it shows as pinned to the Taskbar. When I unpin it, the other five of six Quick Launch icons that I had pinned weeks ago to the Quick Launch Toolbar suddenly appear. Then I right click the Google Chrome entry in the "Most Used" column again and pin it to the Taskbar and it reappears. All is well, until I reboot, then it is back to the same old situation of missing Quick Launch icons.
I have done a lot of searching on Google, but haven't found an explanation for this behaviour. I have turned on and off the Quick Launch toolbar, but that has made no difference. I have warm-booted and cold-booted without effect.
I have issues with missing quick launch icons, tray icons and broken start button ALL AT ONCE (and I've installed win 10 just a few days before that), i did the DISM restore (using this [URL] ... ) but this happened.

I started having problems last week. When I click on the Edge icon, nothing happens. My default browser is Internet Explorer. Everything was working fine before. I've checked my settings and nothing seems to have changed. The other users on this computer can get connected. I can connect to the internet if I click on the Google Chrome icon on my desktop. I've tried changing my default browser to Chrome and Edge, but still nothing happens when I click on the Edge icon
View 4 RepliesRecently I have downloaded the bookwalker pc application on my pc. Whenever I double click on the icon on my desktop or try to run it as admin, my cursor would show that its loading but the app never launches. The specs of the bookwalker pc app clearly states that it is compatible with windows 10, and yet it would not launch.

For Pinned items in Quick Access in Win10 Navigation pane, a gray Pin icon is displayed beside each item.
Can it be removed or made transparent with Reshacker?
Note: I wanted to keep the Quick access feature so that I can still drag and drop in Nav pane.
I upgraded from Win 7 Pro to Win 10. All seemed fine.
Installed the trial version of Stardock Start 10, again all things seemed fine and worked properly.
Then about two weeks ago, I noticed I could not move any of my desktop icons to reposition them on the desktop, I would get a grayed out 'stop' icon when I left clicked on the icon to move it.
Align icons to grid is ticked but not the auto arrange. I tried having both unchecked and still had the 'can't move icons issue'.
I have Tweaking.com installed on my machine for fixing a problem I had in Win 7 and decided to use it with Win 10.
Tweaking recommends you restart in SafeMode, which I do, (icons could be moved in SafeMode by the way) and then it does its thing and when finished I then restart the PC back into normal mode from safe mode (side note, it has gotten stuck in safe mode where you cannot restart in normal mode. Even after going into MSCONFIG and clicking Normal mode it would still restart in Safe mode. Don't know what that is about and after running tweaking again it would finally restart normally).
The problem would seem to be fixed, up until I shut down the system, then when it reboots, I again can't move any icons, and I get the gray 'stop' circle.
I have tried multiple malware/anti virus scans and have not been able to find anything (at least while the PC is running, maybe I need to try using a boot CD and scan then).
Side note, I have noticed that when using Stardock Start 10 to emulate the Windows 7 interface, when you search in programs and files, when you go to select any Windows program (ie create a restore point) it gives you an error message (I'm at work so I don't remember it exactly) like you don't have rights to run the program or a different message of it cannot find the path to the program.
When I first installed Stardock that did not happen and I could open up anything with out issue.
I will try and post screen shots of the 'stop' icon and the error messages when I get home.
When I right click the File Explorer icon on the taskbar, not only do I get the pinned files, but also the recently opened ones. How do I stop it recording the recent ones?

View 3 RepliesI have noticed this problem come up on my Dell 7537 (Check out my profile for details) when I close the lid to put the computer to sleep, the HDD light turns off, but the fan continues to run, even after several hours. When I open the lid back up, it is just a black screen where I have to hold the power button to do a hard reset. The same thing happens with initiating a shutdown sequence, although that one only does it some of the time.

View 6 RepliesI downloaded Windows 10 yesterday evening on my new laptop, which, according to the tests I ran prior, is fully Windows 10 compatible. Nevertheless, just since downloading Windows 10, when I fold down the laptop's screen to close it, it freezes. I open it to a black frozen screen that is unresponsive whether I tap the touchscreen, keys and/or power button. Therefore, since Windows 10, I have to reboot my laptop every time I open it in order to use it, which is an inconvenience that nobody should have to suffer. The laptop never had so much as the slightest glitch before Windows 10, and I want Microsoft to fix this.
View 24 RepliesI have an issue i can easily fix when using windows 7 IE but this edge is another issue but anyways here it goes.
With windows 7 when i have an issue with a web page that a pop up locks me into that screen and I cannot close that web window I can easily open task manager and end that 1 window without closing any other open web sites i was currently on but I can't figure out how to do the same with windows 10 edge.
With windows 10 edge i have to reboot the pc because even when ending the microsoft edge process then re openeing edge all the opened web sites are still there including the one that prevents me from doing anything as i am unable to close any of the web windows unless i reboot
The last 2 days FF keeps closing after 1-2mins.
I don't even get the crash report now it just closes and upon opening it takes me the restore session.
I have done a fresh install of it deleting all known traces of FF and although better it still closes but now maybe after 7-10 mins.
I'm running Win10 Pro (clean install)
I tried to do a system restore to roll back 3 days but I get an error saying it couldn't complete the restore.
I have done a full system scan with defender that took around 10-12 hours but all came back clear.
I'm using edge for now but really would like to get FF back.
I used to have a gadget on my desktop that would open and close my dvd drive which was very convenient for me as I can't easily reach the button while sitting in my chair (and if I stretch, I CAN take out or put in a disc),Is there an app in Windows 10 will do that?

View 4 RepliesEvery time i restarting Windows 10 by button RESTART from START in next boot i have Automatic Repair. On next boot i am able to boot fine to Windows 10. Event viewer showing that system was not closed properly, but it was closed properly. Software or hardware related?

I have opened the builtin admn by changing the cmd to sethc so whenever i press shift 5 times at login it opens the cmd for me to type the net user admin /active:yes command but my question is i open taskmgr with the cmd I mentioned before I run programs from "run new task" command the programs opens but close automatically after a few minutes. How to make it not closing itself?
View 2 RepliesSo, for the past 2 days my pc is displaying an unusual behaviour. Every installer that I download does not work.
Some programs like uTorrent or Dolphin or Hijackthis don't work. I have tried compatibility, I have tried running them as admin. And nothing worked.
Funny thing is, they run normally when I boot my pc in safemode. I have researched throughout the internet and I haven't found a similar problem nor solution.
If I access them through the cmd console, they run normally. Go figure.
In my favourites bar in Edge I have more favourites folders than there is space for across the screen so there is a down arrow on the right. When I click on this down arrow the remaining favourites folders appear. If I launch Edge, click on the down arrow and select one of these remaining folders, Edge closes down. However, if I launch Edge and select one of the folders in the favourites bar across the top of the screen this doesn't happen. And once I've selected one of these folders in the favourites bar across the top of the screen I can then click the down arrow and select one of these favourites and Edge does not close down.
And one other thing, every so often Edge starts flashing on and off. I wonder if that's connected with the above problem.
