So today, as it is all over Windowscentral, some of the MS core apps and VLC for Windows 10 got their updates. However, they are stuck at 0% and showing no signs of progress. I've tried cancelling them all, rebooting and download on at a time but it was no use.

I've got 6 different app updates that seem to be stuck in the pending/downloading step in the app store. These are mostly updates to MS apps like Mail/Calendar, Solitaire, Camera, OneNote and Get Office plus a major update to VLC.
There's no error messages, just no progress downloading after several hours. This has probably been an issue for days now considering when these updates were officially announced.
I'm not sure if it's a Surface 3 specific issues and the S3 has been one problem after another on Win 10 but my store downloads and Windows Update downloads just seem to get stuck and never complete. WU never gets off of "Waiting for download".
Every so a store update may start to download. It can take a good 4 to 8 hours, if at all, for all the updates to process. If a download does start it seems to run normally.
Checking my task manager shows the CPU and network are mostly sitting idle.
I've cleared out the SofrwareDistribution folder but it hasn't worked.
Since I skipped Windows 8, I didn't get to use its new task manager.
But now that I'm on 10, I'm heavily enjoying this AMAZING new task manager.
However, I just noticed (not sure how I didn't see this before) that Task Manager is showing that my i5-2500K is running at 5.29GHz! I do have it overclocked to 4.2GHz @ ~1.31 volts. Why this might be happening? I searched around a bit and I found that some other people have this problem with the i5-2500K and the Task Manager, but nobody really knows what it is.
I have apps installed from the Microsoft store on my laptop but they don't show up on the start menu to be able to pin to the start menu. They also don't show up under the "All Apps" area. Is there a way to force apps to show up so that I can pin them to the start menu?
Twice now I've had pinned apps disappear from my start menu - for example, I pinned a game & the notepad to the start menu. Then when going back to the start menu later, they're gone. I have repinned them in a different spot on the start menu & they seem to be staying now - is this normal?
I upgraded to Win 10 in late July, but lately realized maybe Microsoft might not be providing the updates to solve my current issues.
My computer is pretty old, and the hardware is the same as it came out of the box, other than attaching a spare hard drive. It is a Dell Dimension E520.
The processor is an Intel dual core e6300 @ 1.86 ghz, but Win 10 seems to only detect one core and is therefore only running at 1.86 ghz instead of the 3+ ghz I was expecting.
My monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster 940BW and my computer currently does not recognize it has a native resolution of 1440x900. I can only run 4:3 resolutions instead of the 16:10 resolutions I need.
I've already looked at the manufacturer's websites and they don't seem to support Win 10 drivers for these products.
Currently attempting to download Windows 10, I do have the 'Get Windows 10' update installed, and I did reserve my copy. That notification has not yet prompted me that 10 is ready to install, so being the impatient person I am, I downloaded the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool. From this tool I have both chosen the option to 'Install Windows 10' and 'Create media from this tool' (via USB flash drive that is 16GB and FAT32 formatted). When choosing these options, the tools first step is to download Windows 10. I've not been successful when downloading, it has been stuck at 0% overnight each time I've tried this. Why this can't download?

I recently downloaded the google app from the windows store. I would like to pin it to start, but strangely it doesn't show up in the all apps menu. The only way that I have found to open it is by searching for it in the store and opening it from there. When I do open it from the store, it doesn't show up in my task bar. Also when I open it, it doesn't show when I swipe from the left edge on my surface pro 4. I am also unable to uninstall and reinstall since the I cant do so from the windows store and I am unable to find the app anywhere else.
View 3 RepliesHow do auto updates work in the store? I noticed when I went into it there were some updates showing for things like calculator and one note. The progress bar indicated they were fully downloaded but they didn't seem to be disappearing from the list or installing themselves. Is this normal behaviour? It's not an issue as I clicked the download arrow and this seemed to manually prompt their installation immediately. They all worked fine.
i guess what I am asking is would they of installed eventually on their own? I only had the computer on for about twenty minutes or so. It didn't have loads of time to do its thing perhaps. Maybe they download and install themselves after a certain period of idle time? Or on shutdown? How often does the store to app update checks - are they pushed or is there something like once in every 24 hours in place? do recall spotting this once before with some of the MS core apps.
I successfully downloaded Wondows 10 on my Lenovo Laptop. However, the installation looks like it's still installing, but after 4 hours is stuck before the halfway mark on the installation bar. How do I resolve this problem.
View 2 RepliesI wanted to check on the status of my Win 10 updates so I looked in "settings" "update and security" and clicked on update. Nothing happened, all I get is the endless progression of dots which goes on forever. Stopping and restarting the Windows update services has no effect on this situation. Looks like this situation has been going on months now.

Win 10 is now running... well, actually quite smoothly- as far as I know, this is the only oddity (until I turn over another stone..)
I normally use Classic shell, and don't use Cortana. However, having found changing settings has disrupted Cortana, I sometimes check- I feel I've seen a comment about this somewhere.

After an cumulative update the icons of the modern applications took a square of the color of my theme and are no longer monochromatic ... And some apps do not show the name on the Live Tile as well...

I've been unsuccessfully trying to download some Apps from the App Store and while the progress bar says it is 'Working' nothing happens.
I also get a screen prompt, asking me to log on to my Hotmail account, which I don't really want to do, as I have Yahoo email.
So is it a requirement to log on to your Hotmail account, in order to download these Apps?
I am upgrading a computer from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I completed the download, and got a message that the computer needed to restart to continue the installation. However, when I restart and the computer comes back up, the same message appears and the installation does not progress. When I go to check Windows updates in the control panel, it says it can't check for updates because another installation is in progress. I have restarted the machine multiple times with no progress - can't go forward, can't go back.
View 1 RepliesPreviously on W7 & W8 the updates categorized into 2 column (Important & Optional) where we can select the updates individually and download/install. This way I can get some optional drivers for memory card, printers & etc.
I couldn't find this option in W10. I choose to ignore it but my antivirus keep notifying me that optional downloads are available. I did click the "Run System Updates" but it navigates to System > Update & Security > Message and shows "System is up to date".
Sometimes it only updates the critical updates. The rest (Recommended & Optional) ignored/not notified on windows updates.
I am trying to install the .net 3.5 update for my Windows 10 Pro rig. I tried the usual way (enabling) with no luck: the system sits on searching for file and never goes anywhere. (I let it search overnight with no luck). I tried the method suggested HERE with no luck either (it sits there telling me the image version but never starts the "Enabling Features" process. I've let it sit there for 30 minutes with no success.
I am trying to do the second step via a Windows 10 USB install, not a DVD. I didn't bother trying to create an ISO since I didn't think that would matter. In either case, I feel really stuck. I am unable to run a few legacy games because of this stupid .net 3.5 issue. It's really frustrating.
I am having some trouble getting the default store apps to work. As for the store itself, it used to briefly show the splash then crash. Now it is just an unknown file type that doesn't do anything when clicked. I have tried some of the more common fixes, like the powershell re-register scripts, but none work, all returning errors of one kind or another. At this point, would it just be easier to "Reset this PC", or is there another fix I may not have tried?

The screen shots show what I've been looking at for two days now. Obviously something is amiss with Automatic Update but I dunno what, or what to do about it.
I have my settings on to receive windows updates automatically. In the past three weeks I keep seeing that in the history all updates have failed to either download or install.
View 2 RepliesI built my desktop pc about 6 months ago and it has been amazing to use and play games on. Today when i came home from school and wanted to go on and use my computer it all worked fine, i watched a youtube video and then went on steam to play some games.
Then my computer just shut off. I then opened it and cleaned everything but nothing works or responds, i can't do anything with it to get a response. I checked my computer afterwards top see if it was a heating issue and every single part was cool.
My pc specs are:
Intel core i5 4690k, gtx 970 g1 gaming overclocked, 750w coolermaster bronze power supply, 8 GB ram, Asus maximus ranger motherboard, seagate hdd.
Windows Update has been stuck at 0% every time I've tried in the last couple of days (see screenshot). These are the two updates available:
