Stuck - Install Requires Restart But Doesn't Progress After Restart

Jan 15, 2016

I am upgrading a computer from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I completed the download, and got a message that the computer needed to restart to continue the installation. However, when I restart and the computer comes back up, the same message appears and the installation does not progress. When I go to check Windows updates in the control panel, it says it can't check for updates because another installation is in progress. I have restarted the machine multiple times with no progress - can't go forward, can't go back.

However, the computer has been stuck in Restart for 3 hours. Microsoft... can you access my IP and stop this loop? Is there anything I can do to stop this loop?

Even After Upgrade Computer Often Stuck In Restart Loop

Aug 6, 2015

My windows 7 PC was hard to start and restart and I needed to try 10 times or more before it worked (then I didn't restart it for days).

I managed to upgrade it to Windows 10 hoping that it will cure the problem BUT still it is a problem to start.

I checked everything and used every tool possible on windows 7 and windows 10 but nothing worked. (ccleaner and others failed)

So now I have a windows 10 PC that doesn't want to start easily.

Do you think that the problem can really be a driver ? After upgrade to windows 10 I GUESS that all driver files have been changed ?

So, after having this problem for a few months I decided it was time i asked. Whenever I restart my pc for any reason, it just gets stuck on the black screen right before power off. Everything else still works fine, even when I update I just wait a few minutes then hard reset. But this is getting annoying especially when I have the updates that need multiple restarts because I have to sit there and watch it.

BSOD :: OS Crashed And Now Stuck In Restart Loop With Blue Screen?

Aug 11, 2015

Last night I was watching a dvd on my desktop when all of a sudden a blue screen came up with a frowning face and said that "Your computer ran into a problem and needs to restart, its collecting info and will restart." It happened quickly so I didn't see what the error was but now my PC is stuck in a loop where it restarts and loads into an empty blue screen. It stays on that blue screen for a minute or so and then restarts again. I tried going into my BIOS or starting in safe mode but my PC won't go into them.

Black Screen And WAIT During Boot-up

Aug 30, 2015

For two years I have had three hard drives installed. One small one went bad and at bootup I would get that information with "Press F1 to resume" which I would do and then windows would load. I upgraded to windows 10 from 7 three weeks ago, same message, and no problem, as it would still go right into windows. Last week I noticed windows update had a list of important updates. I believe I also had an nvideo GeForce driver update which I am sure I did first without problems.

When I did the windows updates and had to restart, I noticed I had a slightly different look but it still took me to the same press F1 to resume. However, the result was it went to a totally black screen with a tiny band of the new windows blue across the top and in the middle of the screen it said WAIT, not in windows type but in the same script when you first begin booting computer. It just remained there and there was no activity taking place, no blinking red light or solid red light like my computer always does. After at least 20 minutes of no activity I rebooted with the same result. Repeating the F1 kept giving the same result, and further reboots and then the F1 caused the computer to reboot maybe 2 out of 5 tries instead of directly going to the black screen. At one point I quickly saw something where I believe it askd to press tab or possibly delete and then gave an option to press F1 or F2. I am not sure which I pressed but it did go into windows and everything was fine for the rest of the day. I let my computer on but at some point overnight it had rebooted and back to the press F1 to resume which results in back to the black screen WAIT and this is where I am at again (I am using a different computer to send this). Installation :: Skipping Reservation Wait By Using Media Creation Tool?

Aug 12, 2015

I've done the upgrade on my computers just fine. My mom gave me her laptop to upgrade for her. But she needs it back soon. With the upgrade "app", I reserved the upgrade. But I'm not sure how long it will have to wait. I have the installer on USB, since I used that for my clean re-install on by two computers. Is there a way to skip the reservation wait? Or does Microsoft require the upgrade to be "cleared" in sense in order for the upgrade to work or to be activated?

Performance :: System Will Not Restart From Restart Selection On Start Menu

Nov 13, 2015

I upgraded to Windows 10 everything seems to run fine but system will not restart from the restart selection on the start menu. Windows update will not reboot automatically either. System looks like it is going to reboot, everything shuts down but as system trys to restart everything freezes. Only way around it is to do a hard shutdown by holding the power button. Updated graphics card, hard drive and bios but still no luck.

Desktop Icons Stuck On Left Side And Explorer View Stuck On Details

Sep 28, 2015

All my desktop icons are stuck on the left side of the desktopAll file explorer view are stuck in details view. Now yes, I have turned off Auto-arrange, still refreshes to all icons on left. I have tired ALL sorts combinations of view + sort by... nothing. I have tired many anti-malware/virus scans and nothing has come up. I have tired CCleaner pretty much everything and the problem persists.

Of note, I had done a system restore a week and half ago to a specific point and that fixed the problem but for just a day, then it happened again. When I got around to having time to go for another system restore, that restore point was gone and now no other restore point is fixing the issue -_-That left me to think it might be something I installed or perhaps a windows update... but after having uninstalled pretty much everything I could that I installed in the last week as well as removing recent updates.... nothing. I have also tried making a new windows account (local)... nothing. Also tried in safe mode, still nothing.

Won't Do A Restart

Aug 28, 2015

I installed Windows 10 as an upgrade and ever since my computer will not do a restart. Whenever I try a restart, the computer idles down then just hangs there with fans running and blank screen. The only way I can restart it is to press the reset button on the front panel after it idles down, or shut Windows down and power up from scratch. Things I have tried so far:

1) A standard Windows repair. This did not fix the problem.

2) Downloaded and ran the Bo Yans boot repair tool. Did not fix the problem.

3) Ran all of the Chkdsk options, which took 3 hours to complete and all results came back clear. Still Windows 10 would not do a restart.

4) Ran Easy Repair Professional for Windows 10. No luck there.

5) Scanned the registry and fixed all errors. Still no luck.

6) Checked the Power Management Options and found these to be okay.

Slow On Restart

Aug 7, 2015

I have recently just upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8 via the recommended way. However, I have noticed it take a bit longer to start up and restart than Windows 8, it's like I have gone back to Win Vista or 7.

I personally would have performed a Clean Install of Windows 10 if there was a legal ISO for download but in saying that..... I bought my Laptop with Windows 8 pre-installed and wouldn't quite know how that would work performing a clean install anyway with out knowing my Windows 8 Product key as it is not visible on the Laptop. Not to mention that with it being a manufacturer OEM it probably wouldn't work using a legal ISO download. I didn't even get a Windows 8 installation DVD with my Laptop so had to make a Backup DVD.

So I'm thinking if no joy I shall just go back to my Windows 7. It would be a shame really because I really like the whole layout with Windows 10..... It's cleaner and crisper.

No Restart After Upgrading

Aug 13, 2015

I'm having some hard times with my pc after installing windows 10...I used to have windows 8.1 and everything was fine. Since I downloaded 10:

-it's no more possible for me to restart my pc: it stops during the process.
-programs behave weirdly: adobe is going mad, it's no more possible to close skype when I don't need it, and other minor issues.

Now, I tried to go back to Windows8.1, I tried to reset the pc, BUT OF COURSE I CAN'T BECAUSE THE RESTART OPTION DOESN'T WORK!!!

Cannot Log Out Or Restart Or Shut Down

Jan 23, 2016

Recently I started having a problem where after my computer is on for awhile, nothing that operates in the Metro UI will open or function at all. This includes the Start menu, any Windows 10 apps including Settings, Task View, the alt-tab interface, etc. I also cannot log out or restart or shut down, I can get to the options from Ctrl+Alt+Del but it just gets stuck on logging out and I have to do a hard reset.
