System Gets A Lot Slower When Installing A Big Game
Oct 11, 2015
Whenever I'm installing a big game(say 28GB), Windows 10 gets bogged down and sluggish. I can't even watch movies without them getting slowed down every now and then. Whatever program/folder I double-click takes a lot longer to open up. I don't recall this happening on Windows 7 Ultimate. Why is this happening?
My Rig:
Windows 10 Pro x64
Phenom II X4 945
nVidia GT630
Seagate 500GB 7200rpm SATA II
Asus M2N68-AM
4GB RAM DDR2
PSU: Generic 500 Watts
As from today I've got 2 SEE. Both time I was playing PC Game. All started after Win 10 installed updates today. My drivers are up to date ( will check again to be sure ).
Have used Windows 10 for awhile now with no problems. Yesterday, on 18 Sep I updated I Tunes. I don't know if that is linked to the problems that followed since it had been more than 24 hours since I used the PC. I tried to play Day of Defeat and it worked for awhile, but then froze up. Could not control-alt-delete and had to power down, then power back up. PC said Windows did not load correctly and do you want to try again. I said yes and Windows came up OK. Tried to play Day of Defeat again to see if the problem still existed and the game was all herky jerky and not playing correctly, but I was able to close it.
Checked around on the internet. Ran System File Checker. Came up with "could not fix corrupted file taskhostw.exe, source file in store also corrupted." Got same response to bthenum.sys. But, the last line of the SFC details said, "Verify and Repair Transaction completed. All files and registry keys listed in this transaction have been successfully repaired." So, were they fixed or not fixed? I tried to go to restore to go back to an earlier restore point, but then I got system protection error 0X8000FFFF, with most buttons grayed out. In services, microsoft software shadow copy is running on manual, task scheduler is running on auto, and volume shadow copy is running on manual. I have tried the first and last on auto, but still cant access all system restore capabilities or the scheduler to schedule restore points. I did have three restore points listed and have tried the two oldest with no improvement.
I have tried disc check and disc cleanup with no changes noted.
I have a USB recovery thumb drive and partitions on the hard drive. If used, I guess that will cause me to lose all my loaded programs, same if I "reset" the computer.
In August I added Malwarebytes to run a scan as things were acting oddly then. I guess it was Malwarebytes anti-exploit because now I can’t uninstall Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit. I get, "File “C:Program files (x86)Malwarebytes Anti-Exploitunins000.dat” does not exist. Cannot uninstall." I added malwarebytes anti malware as part of my recent efforts, but only found some PUP files. Windows defender found no viruses.
How do I get my PC to begin working properly again? Do I have to go the reset/recovery route and then rebuild everything?? Or is there a better, less terrible option?
I just bought a windows 10 64 bit oem system builder for my custom build pc. the sticker says once opened it, I wont be able to return it. it also says that to get license key go to microsoft.com/oem/opk - this side does not work. I am now unsure if i will open this box and get no product key at all.
I plan on buying a new computer and want to transfer my Windows 10 App Game Statistics for Hearts and Chess to my new computer. Where does Windows 10 store these game statistics so I can save the folder.
one part before installing Windows 10. In creating a virtualbox you will see three lines with the top to fill in with name " Windows 10 Technical Preview " then second line with type --Microsoft Windows and the last one with version -- I wasn't sure which to pick the right operating system of my laptop. Well I do know that my operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium SP-1 64X but see several youtube videos show with Windows 8.1. Am I click with Windows 7.1 in the line. Is that correct.
Just upgraded from windows 7 pro to windows 10 Pro.
The upgrade appears to have gone well except for the error which I will describe below.
The symptoms: When attempting to install any software which requires administrator privileges, I am getting one of two errors.
More specifically, I was attempting to install "Speccy" to get more information about my hardware. I double clicked the installer and immediately received the following error: [URL] ....
I attempted a reboot, and then after that, I did a disk cleanup and basically checked everything including the previous versions of windows. Then I rebooted again and have still received the same error.
Now when attempting to install some other software I have either received the error I show above, OR I will sometimes get the following error: [URL] ....
I have done a bunch of googling and have found zero information about those errors or how to fix them, besides "reinstall windows" ...
I REALLY don't want to re-install windows, and would like to fix this problem without wiping out my current installation.
I am on 64 bit Windows 10 Pro 10586.29. Before the last 2 updates, my system, with a 512GB SSD would shut down in 4 to 5 seconds. Since the last 2 updates, it has gone from a very fast 5 seconds to about 15 to 20 seconds.
Have upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10 a few times already and keep going back to Win 7 'cause it system slows down (start up and shutdown) after second reboot on Win 10.
It takes about 30 seconds to load on Win with all kinds of installed programs. Win 10 takes at least twice the amount and i have barely loaded anything yet.
Start don't work, and Computer is 5 times slower. We used, sfc/scannow a bunch of times with a restate each time but didn't work at all. We were thinking about uninstalling windows 10 back to Windows 7. The computer ran windows 10 for about 2 weeks just fine and then this happened.
I just replaced my old router (Linksys WRT54G) to a Linksys x1000. However, my download speed is slower than the previous router I had. I tried the following things to resolve this problem:
Upgrading to the latest firmware version;Updated my wireless network card drivers to the latest version;Switching between different channels (channel 1 and 5 and default channel). I have set Network Mode to: Mixed and I set Channel Width to Automatic (20 or 40 MHz).
When using my old router I had an average download speed of 1 MB/sec while using the new router I can't get pas 500 KB/sec. In both cases I was sitting next to the router.
Oh, and by the way, there's also a port on the router named DSL. It looks like it doesn't matter whether I connect that port to my modem. How come? What's its function?
This didn't happen right away. They worked fine for a month or so. It is not the ISP, my ISP is very reliable, they consistently give me the bandwidth I am supposed to get. 20MB down 2MB up. The problem laptop averages 0.3MB down and 1.5MB up.
The other hosts on my home network are not having any problems. I have another Win 10 Machine that was upgraded from Win 7 that is working just fine. One Ubuntu client and one more Win 7 client.
Fixes I attempted:
I went to the HP website and applied the recommended updates.
Checked Microsoft updates - none were suggested or required.
I removed and readded the network adapter drivers. Several times.
The hardware in question is:
HP Envy 17t Laptop OS: Windows 10 Pro Version 1511 (OS Build 10586.36) Wireless:Broadcom BCM43142 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi Adapter driver: 6.223.215.14 Ethernet:Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller Adapter driver: 10.1.505.2015
I have a laptop with 1 USB3 socket and 2 USB2 sockets. The USB3 socket is also a "charging" usb socket.
Now if I plug a USB3 HDD (Toshiba) into a USB2 socket where I've connected a powered USB2 hub I'm getting copy speeds of around 76 mb/s. The same HDD plugged into the USB3 socket is only giving me speeds of around 30 mb/sec. I'm copying the same file from an internal SSD.
So far I haven't seen any advantage in using the USB3 socket over a USB2 powered hub -- is this W10 not having proper USB3 support yet.
My wife's favorite game "murder she wrote 2 will not run after last windows update (KB3132372). Upon clicking the icon I get "run time error (2147417848 (80010108) Automation error The object invoked has disconnected from its client" I have tried compatibility troublesooter to no avail. I have uninstalled the program, restarted the computer and reinstalled the program.
I've had BSOD's before and here's that thread in case it may prove useful: "Old BSOD's thread" Unfortunately I'm having issues again now.
Here's the dm log collector file below:
TCC-PC-Sat_01_30_2016_191706_67.zip
It contains all BSOD's from the last 4 days...
My rambles, if at all useful: With some of the errors I've gotten from my BSOD's and my game, I could see the issue possibly having to do with bad memory, but it is just a theory. There's also a very good chance that my integrated Intel graphics or my discrete Nvidia graphics could be causing the issues, cause they did cause BSOD's in the past. Though, as axe0 suggested in my old thread, I disabled my Nvidia graphics so there would be no conflict between the two. This did work for a little while, but as said earlier, I'm now having issues again, even with Nvidia disabled.
When I changed to Windows 10, my Cubis game will not play. Also some videos on facebook and others.I went back to the old Windows and they play. I just upgraded to Windows 10 again, and the same is happening. How can I get the game and videos to play?
Just recently I tried to take a screenshot in a game (Fallout 4) and it just came out black no picture at all. I never had any problem before and I was wondering if it could be anything to do with Windows 10 + Nvidia? I haven't taken any screenshots with windows 10, win 8.1 worked fine.
I've recently upgraded to Windows 10 via USB (using the download from the microsoft website onto USB and upgraded all my computers). All went well and smoothly, but unfortunately, when I went to start up Dota 2, my screens went black (as normal) but didnt load up the game. It seemed like it just crashes before it even loads anything. I thought that it was a bit weird, so i tried launching Garry's Mod, that did the same thing. I tried Warframe, as that opens a window before you enter the game, but that worked.
Not sure whats going on, heres my PC specs.
CPU - Intel i5 4570 GPU - GTX 780 Gigabyte 3 1080p monitors Motherboard - Z87 Gigabyte (z87m-D3HP to be exact)
I recently upgraded to windows 10, and I wanted to stream my xbox one to my windows 10 PC, I plugged in my controller, installed the drivers and everything, but when I go find the option to connect my xbox, it looks like this, there is no option on the side to connect it, URL...
