View 3 RepliesIt seems like, I lost total control to computer since upgrading to windows 10, from 8. no access to C:, or admin rights, many errors like: no indexingwith search No downloading like Skype.
View 9 RepliesThe firm in which I work has a Lenovo PC with Windows 10 installed. There are two user profiles on the computer, the admin and another normal account without administration rights. We have only the password of the account without administrator rights.
The network administrator had left the company surprisingly in without giving the administrator password of the PC and we cannot contact him anymore.
Now we want to install another programme and we cannot do this without an administrator account.
I disabled secure boot and have tried to boot the PC with an Linux USB Stick, but it do not boot from the stick.
how I either can reset the password of the administrator account or create an new account with administrator rights.
how to delete an administrative acct/change rights? somehow I ended up with 2 admin accts ...
View 2 RepliesI disabled UAC & i'm using the only account on this system, which is admin. Yet i'm not allowed to write to C roots and being ask to write in many other places.. How do i disable that & i'm having admin rights ALL THE TIME while using my admin account..?Ok so what i mostly need is the ability (permanently) to write to C: disk root. How do i do that?
View 9 RepliesBasically, when I setup my system I run my primary user as an admin to install and set everything the way I like it. After a week or so I remove my primary user from the Administrators group. I then use the default Admin account (usually Administrator) to do any other major changes or installs.
I understand that he default administrator account is disabled by Windows and needs to be enabled, but my gripe is that windows has allowed my only active user, which happen to be in the local admin group, to remove it's own Administrative privilege.
Now I have a PC with one standard user and no way to enable my admin, or otherwise do any administrative actions.
HOW CAN I ENABLE ADMIN WHEN MY ONLY USER ISN'T AN ADMIN?
WHY WOULD WINDOWS ALLOW THIS TO OCCUR?
I've attached a couple screen shots showing my list of users, which will show the only active user and the other 3 disabled (icon shows down arrow); as well as my Administrator group showing the disabled Administrator user...which is disabled.
And I know I *should* have enabled the Administrator account BEFORE I removed my own admin...but I'm here now and need a fix.
I just upgraded my Win 7 Laptop to Win 10, but I seem to have lost my admin rights to certain folders and actions.
I am getting "You don't have permission to save in this location" messages when trying to look at the Local Users and Groups console or save files.I can not download/ save (do not get the save dialog at the bottom of Edge (or IE for that matter)).Also I am not able to do the "Sign in with a Microsoft account instead" procedure in the "Your account" window. Nothing happens when I fill in my email and click.
I want my control back, of the Laptop. How do I solve this?
My brother has lost all admin privileges and would like to get them back, how this happened he was doing a virus scan and it was taking an excessive amount of time and he wanted to stop it but it would not stop so he just turned off his computer when he restarted it booted in what he says was OTS mode with no admin rights. Is there a way he can recover admin rights?
View 4 RepliesI finally got a PSU for my fileserver, and got it tested. It world perfect, but! I got a little problem, me and my stepdad is gonna use this server (it's mine) and I want both of us to access it from all our pc's and write to it. I didn't get it working when I had my NUC as a temp server. And I really want it do work now. So me and my stepdad can write data to it over the network.
View 2 RepliesSo we have these tools that need elevated rights within IE to install correctly. In windows 7 we always did the right click, run as admin thing. However, now after the upgrade and Edge there seems to be no availability to run it as admin. Tried all the icons & right click that I can find for Edge but not getting the option anywhere.Tried also with the Edge app from /Windows/Systemapps and it didnt give the option either. Of course if I go back to IE it allows me..
View 9 RepliesLike many other new Win10 users, I've experienced Microsoft's built-in gotcha: all the files I transferred from my old PC are now Read-Only. OK, I know that I can uncheck this attribute in each file's properties. I've read that in recalcitrant cases I should go to the Security tab of Properties and edit them to allow Full Control. That works in some cases... but I'm finding cases where the Edit is greyed out, and I am unable to make changes. Most often, the only User in the box is Home Users. There is no other line for Administrator or anything else. How can I get past this roadblock?
View 5 RepliesHow do I get rid of this popup on windows 10 Pro / 64 Bit... Once in a while I get a pop up when moving a file or folder asking for... administrator rights.... It's not that big a deal... When it shows up I Click on CONTINUE and the function is completed...
I'm running three drives and one of them has two partitions so that brings it up to four mapped drives... I'm always moving stuff around, downloading, adding plug-ins to my software and so on...
Below are the settings I have set to keep the prompt from popping up but as I said it shows up on occasion...
UAC is turned "OFF"
Windows Smart Screen is turned "OFF"
Security Options ... Accounts: Administrator account status "Enabled"
All the drives have full control "Enabled"
I am running a multiboot W7-pro and W10-pro with several harddisks build in the computer to discover that after W10 used a disk W7 wants to check it to find no errors. Beside that I am not allowed to delete some folders I created in W7 after using them in W10 and they are set to free for use for everybody.
W7 now askes me to get permission from that everybody. I think they mean the W10-everybody. Understand that security is important nowadays but this is becoming a disaster! Also discovered that running the backupapplication Cobian (that always did a perfect job in W7) now is not allowd to acces lots of files in W7 anymore after W10 did ?????something??????.
Another example: I have two SATA backup 1 Tb Disks I switch every few weeks. W10 refused to see the new one after the first switch. Had to go deep into settings to carefully trying to open its content again as W10 told me zero bytes were used. In the end the 900 Gb data was there again but I have forgotten all the steps needed to fix it.
My best guess is that beside Microsoft is messing around with accounts and rights to get full control of your computer. They do not want you to be in control yourself anymore and you have to (must) only use W10 in the future. I am starting to feel a big fool that upgraded to W10 as I am loosing control over my PC's and home-network day by day!!!!
I have installed one app in Windows 10 through Win store, and I want to move one file to that app folder, but every time it is asking me, u need to perform this action - try again or cancel. I have permission to all the groups to move that file, check screenshot below...
But still I don't have access to move files over that app folder, I am tired now..
Yesterday, I downloaded the Win 10 upgrade to a flash drive. My plan was to use it first on an older Win 7 computer that isn't used much. Then, if successful, I would do it on my husband's new Win 8.1. It seemed to take forever and I didn't even think it had downloaded to the drive. But it did, and after lots of time, the Win 7 has Win 10.
Problem is, in the midst of downloading, it said that the administrator had to be signed on to continue, so sign out and switch users. That was hard to figure out, but I did it and now I don't know if the download is complete. Can I unplug the flash drive? I think I'm also an administrator and should be as I'm the only one who uses it. Is there a way to check if it complete?
Other question: Can I use the same flash drive to upgrade the 8.1? I think it's 64 and the other is 32. Should I just erase the flash and download the upgrade again?
When emptying the recycle bin there are always about 10 - 15 items left showing in the folder. They are not actually still there because they usually disappear after I refresh the folder. With the recycle bin I could just assume they are gone and if necessary I will get rid of them the next time but this also usually happens when I try to move or delete a large number of files and it is a PITA having to make sure the total move or deletion has completed successfully. What happened to the auto refresh on completion of an operation to show the actual final state of the relative folders ? It is beginning to seem that Win 10's improvements and advantages are coming with too much aggravation .
View 5 RepliesSFC stops at 22% and cannot complete.
DISM returns "The specified buffer contains ill-formed data."
RESOLVED via a Windows 10 refresh second attempt that succeeded after the first would not allow files to be retained.
After again creating an ISO file, the second install resulted in retained files and no SFC errors.
I have a surface pro 3 and I am trying to do an in place upgrade to 10. Both OSes are Enterprise versions. The install goes fine and eventually gets to a point where it will revert back to windows 8.1 with the following error: 0xC1900101-0x40017.
Small background on the machine: It is running windows 8.1 ENT, SCEP for virus scanner, is on a domain, has been originally imaged using SCCM
Here is what I have tried to get this error gone and get 10 installed:
Clean boot
Disabled all startup items from task manager and all services not marked as Microsoft
DISM /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth (succeeded)
DISM /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth (succeeded)
DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth (Failed)
Ran via command prompt and all succeeded
net stop wuauserv
[Code] ....
found corrupt files but couldn't fix them.
Running offline scan not but I don't know that it will change the result of the online scan (done this before on other machines)
Tried running from local machine via extracted ISO (Failed)
Tried running from USB3 Thumb drive via extracted ISO (Failed)
It turned on from a complete shut down.
View 1 RepliesI try to open a zip file in "File Explorer/Windows 10" with double click on, but it is no working. I'm trying with right mouse click to "extract all", and I have got the error:
Windows cannot complete the extraction. The compressed zipper Folder XXX is invalid.
I recently upgraded from windows 8 to windows 10. but ever since I have a problem. I shut the computer down (start bar, power and shut down) and at some point a few hours later the computer starts up again on its own but I haven't changed anything so can only pin point it to the upgrade.
View 7 RepliesI've got a Sony VAIO and it took a while for them to update all of their drivers, but they finally did in November. The update went pretty well and I've had some minor issues, but nothing ongoing... EXCEPT, about once a week, the system completely locks up. I think every time it's happened, I've been using Chrome, but I'm not certain.
I upgraded from Windows 8.1 64-bit and now have Windows 10 Home 64-bit.
Windows 7 to windows 10 killed my windows 7 install. Is there a way to do the upgrade with out a complete install of windows 7.Using the windows 7 Lic Key.
View 3 RepliesI've just got this computer back and its crashing at Random times, I cant figure out why though and it shuts off with no fanfare and no warning, one second its on and the next its off.
I think.. THINK its related to doing stuff, cause when i play a video game, it happens but when i leave the computer alone and don't touch it, it can remain working, but its blinked off from seemingly small stuff like browsing and such, just less commonly so.
Anyway I don't know how to diagnose the issue, thought it might be a problem with my power supply so i upgraded from 400 to 500 but.. nope that didn't do nothing.
If I was to make a complete image of my system warts and all. What would be the best way to create it?The media creation tool kit or something else?
View 7 RepliesGot a new Dell laptop today that came with W10 pre loaded. Have installed dropbox, and spotify and AVG. Rebooted it a couple of times during all this and all seemed fine.
Now when it is switched on it shows the login screen and I enter the microsoft account password. It shows the desktop wallpaper, and the desktop icons, but it does not show the taskbar icons or the clock in the notification area. It shows the mouse pointer, which can be moved with the touchpad, but neither left nor right mouse buttons have any effect. The keyboard is unresponsive (despite working 5 seconds earlier to enter the password) so Alt-F4, Ctrl Alt Del and Windows key have no effect.
If the pointer is moved down to the taskbar it changes from the default arrow to the 'busy' circle, but after leaving it for half an hour or so, there is no progress. The only route I have found out of this is to hold the power button down to force a shutdown. When I power it back on the login screen appears, and I can move the cursor, type etc and everything seems normal. When I enter the password and login, I get the same thing again - wallpaper, desktop icons, but no clock and then no further response.
I got into safe mode and selected 'recover from restore point'. This failed (when did it ever work!?!). The laptop rebooted and then went straight into the initial reload i.e. asked for country, language, keyboard type, etc etc seems I have lost everything.
