After upgraded to windows 10 my taskbar does not function at all.

I just did the upgrade from Win 8.1 to Win 10 - overall pretty seamless given what could have gone wrong- I was lucky this time. Some minor annoyances , but overall pretty good.
On the task bar search, about an hour ago, I know it was searching the web as I typed in a web address and it took me there....but now, suddenly, its only searching my local machine. I must have inadvertently changed something. that affected this. Where is the setting to get it back to the way it was so I can search the web?.
I know did change my default Edge search engine from Bing to Google...would that have affected the task bar search function?
I also turned Cortana off - did that affect it??
I have run into a small issue were the icons on the taskbar such as, wifi, battery, sound, and action center will not do anything when clicked, when i click the time it wont open the calendar, if i right click sound and battery i can open it that way but when i right click action centre and click open action centre it wont do anything.
Now my start button wont work.
Seems it was my anti virus causing the issues.
I was wondering if its possible to change somehow the firefox and spotify icons to match those of the default windows task bar icons so it looks more uniform? in linux changing icons is easy as pie...is it possible for windows?
View 9 RepliesI downloaded Windows 10 several hours ago. Nothing in the lower task bar will open. When I left click on the start button, nothing happen. When I right click, I get a menu but nothing will open. When I click in the "Search" area, no cursor appears. I don't know how to get to my pictures or documents.
Why is my start button (or anything else in lower task bar) not working?
Also - I use Avast security protection. Since I downloaded Windows 10, my firewall is turned off with Avast. I clicked a button to turn it on, but I am not being allowed to do so. Do I need to change something in the Windows 10 settings. First I need to learn how to pull up the settings since the start button is not working.
Happened both at work and home. At work cost 250 to fix. It all starts with the start up and icons dissappering on the lower task bar. They just disappear. You cannot reboot you have to control alt delete and get task bar to reboot. This will work for awhile. Then will stop working and you have to send your PC to the shop for repair. The repair guy could not figure out what happened had to finally get rid of windows 10 and go back to 7.
Scary the same exact thing is starting to happen on my laptop at home. Icons on the lower task bar are gone and I have to use control alt delete to reboot to get them back... scary thing is I know whats coming. I just spent $460 in repairs because the shop couldn't figure out why windows 10 crashed a month ago... the icons did not disappear but I lost EVERYTHING eventually had to put a new solid state hard drive and reload everything from backups. almost lost all my years of quicken but Fortunately had outside backup.
I have just plugged in a second monitor to my PC, the resolution of both monitors are as recommended (1) is 1366 x 768 and the other (2) which is the main display is 1920 x 1080 - I would like to increase the size of the font, task bar icons etc on my main display (2) but when I go to the "advanced sizing of text and other items" and then to the "Change only the text size" I cannot select specific items as this part is grayed out and I cant click on it. Could it be because I am trying to change something on the (2) monitor (even though it is ticked as my main display)?
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to get my small taskbar to display both time and date, like the regular big taskbar. By default, Windows displays time and date on the taskbar in bottom-right corner. But if you go into taskbar's properties and select the option to show smaller icons, the taskbar becomes a little bit smaller (which is great) and there's no room for date to be displayed (which is not great at all).
I found a few "solutions" for Windows 7, like using some third-party apps to override the default one (but there's all kinds of issues with them), or creating a new toolbar pointing to a folder that is being renamed everyday via schedule (ridiculous!) and so on.Back when I was using Windows 7, I found a dark theme that actually solved this problem (google "cryeR deviantart windows 7 basic black theme"). You had to take ownership and replace the Aero.msstyles file, and then patch some stuff with provided utility. Kinda complicated, but it worked. Now I'm on Windows 10, and I can't find anything that would work. I really like the smaller taskbar, but I would also like to see the date.
I tried the powershell command, but it did not work. Is there any quick fixes to this? I'm not ever good with OS related problems! Also, I can't use cortana, so I am guessing this is definitely an OS related problem.
View 1 RepliesLaptop issue. I was using it without any problem, but ten I restarted it. I could normally login, but when desktop shows up I cant click any icons, run task manager and when pointing mouse on taskbar, it changes to wait circle. After some time window saying that program stopped working shows up but it does not change anything.
View 4 RepliesI have an AMD 6670 and I just upgraded to Windows 10. At first I couldn't set my resolution back to 1920x1080 but I downloaded the driver and now I'm able to. The issue is that when I set the resolution, it's like everything is stretched out. The taskbar is off the screen on the bottom and same with the icons on the top and sides of the screen. I can see the very top of the taskbar at the bottom, but not enough to click on start or choose any programs that I have open.
View 1 RepliesI have various files throughout my hard drive which error "Invalid MS-DOS Function" if I try and move or delete them however they "work" normally if I try and use them.
I ran a check disk which returned no errors.
I am feeling this may be a format job however I'd like to avoid that if possible ..
I recently upgraded to Windows 10. I soon discovered that my Function key did not work for the majority of keys.I have a Samsung Series 7 Chronos. It does not work with brightness, backlight, wifi on/off, fan... etc.The key does work with volume so I know that the key itself isn't the issue.
View 2 RepliesI have installed Win 10 Clean. Meaning no update but from ISO on USB All is well but I cannot use the search function to go to an app or other function. or file. Is there an setting I have missed.

View 1 RepliesI am unable to use the SEARCH THE WEB AND WINDOWS function in Windows 10. When I click on its icon on the task bar, the hour glass circle flashes momentarily and immediately goes off. What needs to be enabled in MS CONFIG for this function to work? I have enabled every item in MS CONFIG, and still the problem persists. Also, could there be a driver problem involved?
View 1 Repliessince installing Windows 10 for some reason the "numbers lock" does not function & I can't use the calculator
View 15 RepliesWhen I right click my desktop and go to personalization then click "lock screen" nothing happens and it freezes on background. I have to close out then start over to use other functions.

View 1 RepliesIf I take ownership and delete Cortana from Windows/SystemApps will my search function on the taskbar still work (that is, search within the PC)?
View 2 RepliesIs there a way I can put my most used programs on the left side of the start menu? I tried doing it using the Most Used function; and then simply hiding the applications I dont want listed. But this function only lists Microsoft Store apps, and not programs I've installed myself.
View 9 RepliesI have 8 NAS drives on my network that is attached to my computer. Prior to upgrade to Windows 10 - from Windows 7 , I could go to file explorer and then search all the NAS drives for the info that I needed.
In Windows 10, I can see on the NAS drives under This PC but when I try to do a search, File Explorer will say working on it and it will never complete - it stops responding. Windows 10 is the latest version(november 2015).
It's something I use a lot to view pics, photos etc (they open by default in Photo-Shop, but I don't want that to happen just to look at a file) and it's a one-click operation to open Windows Photo Viewer to start a slide-show or do some basic editing.
I can select 'Open With' every time I want to preview, and then select Windows Photo Viewer but that gets very tiresome very quickly. I can't set it as the default or I then lose the Photo-Shop option when I click 'Open'.
Any setting or registry mod that I can use to restore the Preview option??? I have looked in the Tutorials section, without success.
There is a great feature in win7 explorer that you can arrange your music in the music folder by a few options such as albums, genre and artist. There is a way to get it again in win10 explorer?
Example.....
I am trying to rename some of my files but the error message "Invalid ms-dos function" appears instead.
