I just updated to Windows 10 from Windows 7, and now my computer starts flashing out of no where. The taskbar and the desktop starts flashing. When this happens I can not do anything. When it stops, I can not use the start button.
I've seen lots of people posting about this all over the internet but as of yet not found a clear fix to my problem. I registered for the upgrade a while ago and the 'check' said that my system was fine. It's a HP TouchSmart 520 and is 2 to 3 years old.Today I got the message saying that I could do the upgrade and all seemed to go well, no errors throughout the installation. However, as soon as one of the users logs on the desktop just flashes and you can't access anything other than ctrl-alt-del and the task manager.
I've tried booting into safe mode and trying a windows update (boots in safe mode with no flashing) but it finds nothing, and I've looked on the HP website to see if there is a W10 driver. It gives you a file to download which should check for drivers but that doesn't run in safe mode so a non-starter. And if I use the HP website it basically says that you need to use the windows update; which just sits there doing nothing.
If I go into device manager and try to do an update it says that the graphics driver is up to date. I am a bit hacked off that the HP website suggests that it's a product that's not been tested with W10, but the Microsoft check said all ok.
I have Window 10, just upgraded it was working great I turned my computer off and went to bed last night. Today I turn it on and now when I click the start button or windows key. The mouse just looks like it is loading, the taskbar flashes, and nothing comes up. I'm not able to use the Search Bar, however I can click my apps that are pinned to the Taskbar to open them. I can't right click on them tho to do anything with. I have tried to restart Explorer. It did nothing Also something else I think might be worth adding. I had Microsoft Edge pinned to taskbar when I turned my computer on and tried to open it is when all of this started. The Icon of Edge went black and then just removed it self from my Taskbar. Now nothing works.
I have 2 user accounts as previous before upgrading to win10, user account opens and works perfect, the main administrator account after logging in, the taskbar commences flashing and oscillating preventing me choosing i.e. Microsoft edge or chrome etc.
I'm unable to do anything. During the download, everything seemed fine. It started to install apps. It then said "This is taking longer then usual, it should finish soon". I stepped out for about 10 minutes, came back and desktop was flashing with no icons. I'm unable to do anything.
I just installed windows 10. No problems installing or logging on. However, after logging on, the desktop keeps flashing and I cant click on any icons. The only thing I can do is use CTRL + ALT + DEL.
I've noticed similar posts saying the same thing that they have NORTON INTERNET Security installed which I have.
I installed windows 10 from 8.1 on my Vision E2 Gateway. When I sign in, the desktop keeps flashing a black screen every second. It doesn't allow me to open anything, I can't click on any icons visible, and this has been happening ever since I first signed in with windows 10. Is it a virus or something? It can't be that my computer isn't compatible, because it TOLD me it WAS.
A friend upgraded their computer (HP Compaq 6710q) to Windows 10 recently. It boots up ok, but after about a minute the screen starts flashing periodically. Nothing can be done or executed on the computer.
About a minute after starting up, my desktop begins to start flashing to black and coming back in a continuous loop. The file explorer, however is completely unaffected. Using Google I have found that this occurred back in the technical previews of Windows 10 as well, but a new update from Windows fixed the issue. I can not get the explorer stable long enough to even check Windows Update. I have also run sfc /scannow and it said the integrity of my system is fine.
So I have a bit of a problem where my screen flashes, I instantly thought it was display drivers so I uninstalled them only to worsen the problem, the computer restarted with a black screen which later turned into a desktop screen with no icons and a flashing screen (can't click anything or even load up the start menu with the windows key). I put it into safe mode but it does the same thing. Nothing works except task manager and i can't run task from it or it will exit out, system restore doesn't fix the issue either. Computer is a lenovo k450 i5-4440 8gb ram 1tb hdd with an evga gtx 760.
I noted that I am not the first one who encounters a flashing screen after upgrading to Win10, managed to type the "msconfig" and now I am stuck in Safe mode with the system not accepting my password, which is a 4-digit PIN.
I have recently done an update. Now, my computer turns on fine. However the only taskbar icons I have from the extreme left is the windows 'start' image, then the cortana circle then the taskview rectangle.
From the extreme right I have the usual show desktop sliver, then a blank gap of around an inch where wifi / volume / clock should be then a rectangular speech bubble 'No new notifications' then the up arrow - which only shows a single grey square 'ELAN pointing device'.
That's it. There were several quick icons there prior. Edge, MFF, folders, ASUS update, Chrome etc. All gone.
Also, I can't actually access anything from the start window icon. Clicking it does nothing. When I hover / click it it turns red, but that's it.
All my usual desktop icons are there. I can use them but can't minimise anything. If I do minimise anything it vanishes. I can open it again via the task manager as they are still running but that's it.
The ONLY way to shut down my computer is to go to the ctrl + alt + del to the red screen and use the icons in the bottom right hand corner. I can sometimes right click on the start windows icon and it will pop up a black menu and one of the options is power / sleep / shutdown etc.
Is there a way to make W10 move an Icon from the Taskbar to the Desktop? I could do this in W8.1 although I was using Start8.
This has become a minor issue with W10 since when I install an update to a program (reinstall a newer version) the "old" Icon in the Taskbar becomes unusable. That would not be a problem EXCEPT on two of my 6 W10 machines the install does not create a new Desktop Icon automatically!?
Also, is it possible to create a Desktop Icon from the All Apps list. I find the "Pin to Start" and "Pin to Taskbar" by right clicking on the program but the "Show Icon on Desktop" feature is not there or at least I can't find it?
This issue has been with me for 2 months, I am unable to do my work and projects due to this burden of my computer. I have followed everything, from step by step tutorials of how to solve this problem to HD video tutorials and still doesn't work.
My taskbar isn't working, cannot open the start menu and virtually anything. I can open my folders app on the taskbar but it will hang eventually. On the desktop, I couldn't launch any apps at all, except for the recycle bin (it will hang eventually too).
I have tried advanced troubleshooting but doesn't work at all. I wouldn't want to remove all my files too (kinda important and I could not move all of them to a hard drive).
Okay before I go on, I've already reserved my copy of windows 10 before. But I recently just purchased a new SSD for my computer so now I have 2 SSD drives in my computer.I've just done a clean install of windows 7 on my new ssd and I've also installed all windows updates. I've also have a new 2tb hardrive Seagate hardrive in my computer. So am I still able to reserve my copy of windows 10? or am I screwed and yes my windows 7 is genuine
I upgraded to Windows 10 last night and have had nothing but problems. The biggest one is the fact that I cannot open the start menu, I had worked around it by right clicking it and then selecting what I needed from there. However now that doesn't even work.
I just installed Build 9879 over Windows 7 on a spare machine and it went as expected except for the size of the Icon fonts and size of the taskbar. They both are much larger than they were on Win 7. I can't remember how to make them smaller. I make the icons themselves smaller (medium) by using View on the desktop but the fonts and taskbar are way to big. How to reduce them under Win 10?
I was using my laptop at school, when my trackpad starts to glitch out, wherever I moved it it kept clicking and in the process did something to my taskbar; I had my desktop Icons showing on the taskbar (the desktop checkbox ticked in the 'toolbars' tab of the taskbar settings), and they were square Icons that were under my taskbar Icons, but then, after I ctrl+alt+del to stop the glitchy clicking, I went back and now my taskbar looks like this: [URL] ... the 'Desktop' Icons used to have alot more and they were square and slightly bigger than the taskbar icons.
I have successfully installed Windows 10 ("final') on three devices: One venerable notebook, one "media" desktop computer (in my living room) and my main desktop computer in my home office.
Unfortunately, I have encountered a strange phenomenon on my main work computer. I have set the taskbar icons to "large" and they are a "bearable" size. However, the desktop icons (which I don't display on the desktop) in the taskbar are TINY (!) - and I can't find any way to make them larger.
What make this strange is that there is NO disparity between the size of the App and desktop icons on the desktops of the other two machines. Am I missing a setting, or is this a "glitch"? Is there a workaround? It is really NOT acceptable - a "step backward" form Windows 7, in my opinion.
It's been a few days now since icons aren't showing everywhere including Desktop (really bugs me, this one), Taskbar (Not actually disappeared, but deformed), and File Explorer. I did things like calling Task Manager up and end the process of explorer.exe and run it again, no luck. I restarted Windows, yielded no results. I also tried turning the machine off and on again, to no avail.
Here are some screenshots regarding the problem I am facing.
While Desktop and Explorer are not working as well as they should, Start Menu and Tablet Mode appear to be quite fine by themselves.
My machine is running Windows 10 Home Edition, not Insider Preview. I don't know how to find the version/build numbers, but I'm positive it's the latest build available since I just checked Windows Update.
I cannot find my taskbar (it's not hidden, no) and the back button doesn't do anything. I've restarted my computer. All the windows I've opened since this happened (last night) cannot be made any smaller, they're all maxed out across my screen and can only be minimized into nothing.
I don't recall doing anything, I just closed my laptop to do something for a bit and when I opened it, it was like this. I also could not use my keyboard at all, until I restarted.
I recently upgraded both my laptop and desktop to win 10 and I am having exactly the same issue on both.
Every so often the desktop and taskbar will refresh. It doesn't seem to be associated with having anything open, it happens randomly anytime whatever I'm doing. If I'm playing a game it will take me out of the game to the desktop too, it won't close the game though.
I found some information about it possible being AutoCAD 2014 software which I had, but now have uninstalled to try and eliminate the issue but it still persists.
