View 1 RepliesAfter checking and configuring my router I went to the regular desktop view which is plain and looks like Win7. Only the quick access, internet icon, notices, language and clock icons were visible. I had created a new toolbar which referenced the start menu in Windows Program Data. It was spread across the taskbar rather than compacted and previously available by clicking on the title Programs tucked in beside Quick Access.
There was no visible line to use with the cursor for dragging this bunch of links across into the right side area. I removed that toolbar.
The few daily use Taskbar shortcut icons when created cannot be dragged to the taskbar even if I lock it. (Browser, email, Notepad++,Everywhere search and a link to a Quick Stack popup collection of shortcuts). Any open application is not displaying on the taskbar
Considered a 'Restore' and checked the list of restore points with a utility System Restore Explorer and it lists Oct.20 as the last restore point. I'm assuming Win10 does not do a daily restore point.
The last system image is Oct.7 so several Windows updates would have to be done over and there are a couple of those. Is there a registry edit or workaround to restore the taskbar so shortcuts can be pinned there?
When I upgraded to Windows 10 all my icons disappeared and became light blue images of fx a camera for .bmp files.
How do I get my icons back that show a preview of what the file looks like:
Well, I did something, but cannot find out what it was I dis or how to rectify it. This AM when starting Windows 10 Home, I had no icons on the desktop. Using the file explorer>desktop, they are there, so i did not delete them. Somehow I have hidden them from view. The normal app that controls the default icons does not have a hide/unhide, so I am at a loss.
View 9 RepliesI installed win10 last night but now most of my icons on the desk top have disappeared.
View 1 RepliesI have a weird problem, I downloaded the Windows 10 ISO using the Media Creation Tool and now for some reason, the Get Windows 10 icon in the taskbar disappeared so I'm not able to get any alerts when it's ready to install.
View 3 RepliesI reset the computer and got it all back and when I turned on the computer this morning the icons were missing and just the names of them were there. and on the task bar there are icons there but not the ones that fit the names they are like a dll file, then on top of that I tried to go into properties and see what was happening there and I cant do that either.
View 1 RepliesI can no longer view my desktop and the icons on my toolbar are missing (Edge, Chrome, Word, etc.). When I reboot my computer, I can see my desktop wallpaper in the background, but there are no icons/files on it, and the windows apps are up front and center, which I cannot move or minimize (Screenshot below). Even when I have windows/applications open, the icons do not appear in the toolbar. How restore my desktop and icons to the way they used to be?
View 3 RepliesAlthough the time and date can be seen on the taskbar , when I click to see the full calendar , nothing comes up at all . My Windows 10 installation is up to date .
View 1 RepliesAll of a sudden, when using Google Chrome, the taskbar disappeared, and when I minimized Chrome, the background and desktop icons were missing from the screen, all my windows minimized at the bottom left corner. I restarted my PC but that didn't worked... This happened for no reason, I'm 100% I didn't pressed anything, nor installed anything before that might cause the problem..
I can still open almost everything through a window.. but there's some things that don't work now, like clicking right click on background does nothing, adjusting sound through keyboard also (while adjusting screen brightness works properly), I've also tried to open start menu using my keyboard, but that does nothing.... Google Chrome also doesn't want to open, I'm asking this question through IE....Today, my screen also rotated for no reason, just like smartphones and tablets rotate screens..
I wanted to upgrade to Windows 10, my computer was already verified as compatible, and was there yesterday but today has disappeared.
View 1 RepliesMy taskbar is missing and my icons on the desktop are missing as well the background is dark ....
View 1 Repliessee the screenshot.
View 9 RepliesI had shortcut icons on the windows classic desktop in windows 10 and now they have disappeared and I cant get them to come back.
View 2 RepliesAfter I updated to the latest Windows 10 "upgrade" (Build 1511, 10586) released yesterday thru Windows Update, my system shows only the Wi-Fi icon on Taskbar instead of the Ethernet Network icon which it used to display earlier. I have a wired broadband connection, and keep my Wi-Fi Adapter settings "Disabled". Yet, the icon shows the Aeroplane mode of Wi-Fi icon on Taskbar, instead of the Network icon it used to display before this update. At times my wired BB connection tends to become unstable, so I need to keep track if the connection is down, before I do some critical activity on Internet, like large download (which I may be unable to Resume), or Netbanking or online shopping, etc. How do I get the Network icon instead of the Wi-Fi icon on the Taskbar in the new Build 1511 ?
View 9 RepliesThe ICON for the volume control slider bar has suddenly disappeared from of my taskbar ??
I have tried looking in control panel - sounds - but that only puts a shortcut to a speaker on my desktop !!
I cannot find the volume control icon anywhere and I cannot find any reference in Programs to the volume control ?
I need to find this missing icon as when I am using SKYPE I have to turn up the volume to be able to hear the other peoples incoming audio ??
My desktop icons have disappeared, the text associated with the icons is still present, the graphic images are missing. Clicking on the text still activates the application.
View 1 RepliesI'd like to have the Microsoft Edge Icon on the taskbar again as the only way to access it at the moment is using the search field at the far left of the taskbar running along the bottom of the screen and for some reason this doesn't respect the settings I have. In particular, it searches using Bing rather than Google (in the settings I have specified that it should use Google).
How to create an icon for Edge on the taskbar?
HP Envy desktop came with Windows 10 Home already loaded. Set it up with my program shorcut icons in the taskbar. Everything working just fine for days, and then all of a sudden (well maybe not as I had just installed updates from MS) the taskbar no longer shows those icons and the Windows Start/Search/taskview icons on the left and the HP Support/Notification icons on the right show but all are inactive.
View 7 RepliesI have a question, under "Start Menu -> Settings -> Notifications & actions -> Select icons which appear on the taskbar, how does one do maintenance on the list so it only shows items that are currently installed as it seems uninstalled items are still showing up on the list." However the answer has been tried but did not solve it for me. I still have uninstalled app icons showing up. I have deleted "iconstreams", there is no "pasticonstreams" to delete, I have ran registry cleaner, disk clean up, registry search for the apps, c: drive search for left overs etc etc etc to no avail. The icons or app shortcuts must be hiding
View 1 RepliesIs it possible to move the icons freely across the taskbar and place them wherever you want? Or they must be stacked up together?
View 5 RepliesI'm finding that my clean install of W10/64 gets corrupted "Store" and "Edge" taskbar icons if it's been running for any length of time or if I've been gaming. I haven't tried to troubleshoot or isolate the cause. I've only taken note of the problem. Shrug.
A reboot cleans them up.
Edge has white behind the "e". Store is just a white square. My other taskbar icons are good. See the pic.
I have about 15 shortcut icons on my taskbar. They are all aligned to the left, leaving a big empty space on the right. Is there any way to to have the icons aligned more to the right...sort have them in the center of the taskbar?
View 2 RepliesI have recently done an update. Now, my computer turns on fine. However the only taskbar icons I have from the extreme left is the windows 'start' image, then the cortana circle then the taskview rectangle.
From the extreme right I have the usual show desktop sliver, then a blank gap of around an inch where wifi / volume / clock should be then a rectangular speech bubble 'No new notifications' then the up arrow - which only shows a single grey square 'ELAN pointing device'.
That's it. There were several quick icons there prior. Edge, MFF, folders, ASUS update, Chrome etc. All gone.
Also, I can't actually access anything from the start window icon. Clicking it does nothing. When I hover / click it it turns red, but that's it.
All my usual desktop icons are there. I can use them but can't minimise anything. If I do minimise anything it vanishes. I can open it again via the task manager as they are still running but that's it.
The ONLY way to shut down my computer is to go to the ctrl + alt + del to the red screen and use the icons in the bottom right hand corner. I can sometimes right click on the start windows icon and it will pop up a black menu and one of the options is power / sleep / shutdown etc.
I can't right click taskbar apps, left click works as it should but not the right click. Also left clicking start button won't open start menu, right click works on this one as it works on other system icons (volume, network, clock and notification) but not the left click. Another weird thing is that always when i boot up, onedrive instantly crashes, i dont know if this is relevant. I tried rebuilding search index and "sfc /scannow" as i tried this powershell command with no luck.
Code:
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml"}
Also this happened after a power shortage.
My Taskbar Icons don't highlight when in use, I'm used to seeing them highlighted in W7 and miss that as I often close W10 with something open in the background, like notepad or something..
Is there a way to force them to highlight when open/in use?
