This PC Doesn't Have Enough RAM

Jul 31, 2015

I can't get as far as installing Windows10. The "Get Windows 10 app" tells me that this PC doesn't have enough RAM, so says I can't install it. If I try to manually create the media from the Media Creation Tool, it downloads then says: "You need to install at least 2GB RAM before you can install and run Windows 10. Contact the PC manufacturer to see if you can install more RAM." The only option is to close the window.

I am running Windows 7 Pro x64. I have 8GB RAM. Here's the screen dump from the Get Windows 10 app with my computer info in the background:

Start Menu Doesn't Appear - Windows Key Doesn't Work

Aug 25, 2015

Updated to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 two weeks ago.

Had problems with Firefox.  Tried to download to replace existing Firefox.  CNET site appeared to be correct but something seemed wrong so I killed the download. But.

- The windows start menu doesn't come up when I click on the icon, but if I right-click, a text menu does appear and lets me, for example, shut down.

.- If I click on the Windows End icon in the task bar, the screen flashes but End does not come up.  Ditto for the Windows Store icon.

-  Somewhere SpyBot S&D was erased, but I was able to download it.

- If I double-click on a photo in Windows Explorer, I get a popup that lists the name of the jpeg and says Invalid Entry to Registry.  If I right click on the photo and go to any of the options the photo is opened except if I choose Photo.

- Firefox cannot properly display the Yahoo mail page, though Pale Moon and Opera can.

- I have Avast Anti-Virus and MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and when I run their scans, they find no issues.

Indexing Doesn't See Files?

Mar 5, 2016

I've got a lot of PDF's in my User directory, which according to the Indexing service has been indexed (and it says it's done and has indexed thousands of files). PDF's are set to search file properties only. When I search for any of the PDF's by name though I don't find them. I've tried rebuilding the index and no luck. According to the Indexing settings (default) it is indexing the users folder.

Doesn't Shut Down Properly

Sep 24, 2015

I have a laptop ASUS Zenbook UX303LN. I made a clean install to Windows 10 and now it doesn't shut down properly.

When I shut it down, the screen goes black, but the power light remains on and I have to shut it down manually. Also, I sometimes cannot restart it when it goes to sleep and I also have to shut it down manually. This doesn't happen everytime, but most of the time. I previously had Windows 8.1 and did not have this problem. Actually, I'm considering changing back.

The OS and drivers are all up to date.

I have research this issue and the most common fixes are: Uncheck the "Turn on fast startup (recommended)"Use a shortcut for "shutdown /s /t 5"

I've tried both and the problem remains.

These are the videos / articles I've found on the subject:

Internet Doesn't Work

Mar 26, 2016

Having problems with Internet connectivity in windows 10 while having eset nod32 9 installed?I did the latest update to windows 10, and now my Internet doesn't work. I get an error while trying to repair of "windows sockets registry entries required for Internet connectivity are missing". I un-install eset, Internet comes back immediately.

This is a common problem, but people don't seem to be connecting it with their virus scanner. Installing free avast makes the computer go directly into repair mode and won't even boot. Windows 10 seems to not like virus scanners. It is a fresh build, OEM windows 10 home, tried to reinstall the system twice with the same results.

Search Doesn't Find Web Shortcuts

Feb 10, 2016

I have a program group that contains a bunch of shortcuts. Some are applications. Some are shortcut links to web pages or web-based control panels. The problem is that ever since I upgraded to Windows 10, searching doesn't find the web shortcuts.

For example, "Password Generator" is a desktop app and a shortcut to it appears in this program group. So I press the Windows key and type "pass" and "Password Generator" pops right up. "Avast Cloud" also appears in this program group, a shortcut for [URL] ....

But when I hit the Windows key and type "avast" I get nothing. I can click through the "All apps" menu and it's there, but search can't find it. I have rebuilt the index, of course. But this behavior is very consistent and applies to all shortcuts that go to a URL. It means I spend extra time hunting things in the menu rather than pulling them right up with search.

PC Doesn't Boot Into Windows On 1st Attempt

Oct 30, 2015

My system is home built, the boot drive being a Samsung 850 EVO series m.2 SSD. Win 10 was installed via USB, the ssd being the only installed drive. Installation was very quick and easy and once booted the PC performs very nicely.

However, very time it starts from shutdown, on the 1st attempt it reaches the Windows logo and shuts down.. I can guarantee that the 2nd attempt results in a perfect startup. I don't know if this: "BOOTLOG_NOT_LOADED SystemRootSystem32driversdxgkrnl.sys" is relevant.

All drivers seem to be up to date and working. Safe mode it starts 1st time. Fast boot enabled/disabled makes no difference.

Networking :: Doesn't Recognize Ethernet

Nov 27, 2015

I ran Windows 8.1 on my desktop machine a few months ago, and later upgraded to Windows 10. Everything worked great at that time, but since have replaced Windows with Linux. Now I'm trying to install Windows again, with the same 8.1 disk that I used for my earlier installation, and my ethernet connection isn't found. (this is a direct wired ethernet, not wireless) I've installed with a local user account, dug into every networking utility in Windows, but whatever I do the internet goes undetected. I've run the ethernet thru different routers, and even circumvented the router all-together, but no luck. Has my 8.1 disk "expired"?

Laptop Screen Doesn't Seem To Be Recognized

Aug 6, 2015

I have a Dell Inspiron N5110 from 2011. Windows 10 is installed and working, Using it right now but with an external monitor. Found several posts about booting into a black screen but they seem to only be the case when there is a cursor floating round as well.

My problem is that when I boot up the laptop I get the windows 10 loading screen. Then it goes black and stays black. The screen is definitely on but not showing anything. And I've left it for an hour and nothing happens. But when I plug in a second monitor it works on there and seems to detect this second monitor as the only one. Once this monitor is attached, the laptop screen turns itself off and cannot be turned back on, not even to the state it was in before of just being black.

Checked and all drivers are up to date. If I change the settings, by hitting windows key and p, to extend the screen then i can drag the mouse from the second monitor into apparently nothing so I really can't tell if the computer knows about its own screen or not. Also sound is working through the laptop.

Doesn't Fully Shutdown Computer

Sep 17, 2015

I have 7 or 8 computers around the house, most dual boot Windows 10 pro x64 and Linux. When you shutdown a Windows machine and start a Linux machine there are errors and Linux won't boot (The HDD's weren't shutdown properly ~ the OS's have there own SSD's && share a data drive, this is the drive that registers the error). You have to boot windows and shutdown from a cmd 'shutdown.exe /s /t 0' or similar. Is there a way to set windows to actually shutdown with the standard gui shutdown routine?

Page Plus X4 Doesn't Work After New Update

Jan 5, 2016

Windows 10 went wrong Again! First I lost all my favorites, then my Computer experienced exceptions (what ever they are?) followed by random Crashes.

So I did a clean install using my ISO disc and tried to Install Page Plus X4 which was working fine before but it won't work now, even though I installed the latest patch.

I get told its an incompatible Programme, even though it worked OK before I did a clean install, with a note that says that Microsoft are looking for a Solution (you could have fooled me!) also I did the bit about using the Settings that worked on a Previous Programme but that didn't fix it either.

Also uninstalled and re installed the Programme but that didn't work either as did installing net framework.

Also when I get new emails, I am no longer getting advised of any new emails, so I have to keep checking my email box myself.

I looks like I may have to do yet another Clean Install.

I've tried turning off the Automatic Updates but that doesn't seem to work (maybe I'm doing it wrong, so how do I do that).
