Triple Tap Brings Up Cortana Trying To Figure Out How To Disable It
Aug 1, 2015
So whenever I triple tap, the Cortana search engine pops up. I've relegated it to just the search icon in the bottom left corner, but this still happens, more often than not by accident.

It's interesting to see that after i "disabled" it from the options, the process Cortana is still running and is tied to searchui.exe . And after deleting Cortanaware, the windows search bar stopped responding!
Is there any other way to stop this from the services or something? i've looked for it and found nothing. It's funny how MS tells you Cortana is "disabled" but the process in task manager is still up and running just fine.

Got my Windows 10 upgrade from my new HP laptop when it came out late July.(was 8.1 before)
I have a few questions but my main one is:
How do I disable the large black pop up that continually pops up all day even when I am not using the search function? It is on the bottom left and is part of the search function.
I have disabled the Cortana as I never use it and thought the pop up would go away but it keeps popping up but now it is blank with no weather or news.
I would like to carry on using search but do not want this pop up.

I can neither uninstall nor disable Cortana. If I end task in task manager it turns itself right back on.
It is not listed in the programs folder. I have even tried disabling services associated with Cortana and they come right back on.
I really do not want this thing. Sometimes I find it running using 50% cpu. What is it doing. I do not have the resources to waste on a program I do not want or need.

I have a Dell XPS 9100 machine that is triple boot, Win 7 SP1 Drive on C (this is the OEM OS), and Win 8 (not 8.1) on Drive I, and Win XP SP3 on Drive D.
I would like to do a upgrade of the Win 7 SP1 Ultimate drive C to win 10 pro th2-10586. How I might do this and keep my triple boot intact?
I have been an insider since the program started and have run win 10 pro on several VM's on my win 8 OS. I also have Two Retail win 10 pro USB drives (10240) that I'm sitting on.
Would it be better to upgrade the OEM OS or do the upgrade from one of the retail USB drives and then let it update to th2-10586?

I activated the ctrl alt disable login screen for Windows 10 by using this registry key from this forum.(Lock Screen - Enable or Disable in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums).
I downloaded and installed the key to disable only to find it didn't work so I tried to manually do it by changing the number from 0 to 1 only to find its already at 1.
I also tried going the user passwords2 to find the box to disable ctrl alt disable login is already ticked, but is greyed out meaning I can't untick the box.

I already have a Microsoft account that I've been using for some months with OneDrive. When I start Cortana it requires me to log into that account. I do so, but then it pops up a screen telling me to "Enter your old password one last time", and then "From here on out, you'll unlock this device using the password or PIN you just set up.
Before we can say goodbye to your local password, you need to provide it one last time." It then gives me another password box and says "(leave blank if none)".
But it won't let me leave it blank, and when I re-enter my Microsoft account password, it tells me its incorrect...even though it works fine with OneDrive. What PIN it refers to, nor what it is trying to accomplish...but it has stopped me trying out Cortana.

I have successfully set up Cortana on two user accounts, however when I now try to set Cortana up on a user account I get stuck in a loop. I get the screen up that says "One last thing sign in with Microsoft account. Enter old password one last time". I do this then I am shown "That way, I can keep track of what you want me to know".Then I get " Welcome back lets pick up where we left off".
Then it just goes round in a never ending loop. I have created new user accounts to see if the problem was with existing accounts, but still no joy.Looking for answers to the problem on the internet, I have seen it suggested that something can be done by editing the registry, but I do not feel confident to mess about with the registry.I had thought resetting the computer, but am worried that I may not get Cortana to work on any accounts (it is working on two accounts at the moment)

This actually started back in build 9926. The left third of my screen shattered, so I moved the taskbar over to the right edge, and as soon as I did Cortana just stopped working. Her symbol changed to the generic search magnifying glass, she won't open when prompted, and neither will her settings in the settings app.

Microsoft states that Cortana is available in the UK. My region and language (including input) are set to UK, which is where I currently am, and yet I am unable to enable Cortana. In the 'Cortana and search settings', I get the message "Cortana isn't supported in the region and language you've selected". I have configured my microphone for speech input.

I had recently encountered a strange problem: time by time I am getting logged off from OneDrive and Cortana. I just turn on my PC and a OneDrive greeting window appears, welcoming me to log in and set up sync, just like I never did it before. The same problem with Cortana - she just randomly turn off and I have to set her up (entering my name, adding interests, weather e.t.c.).

I'm loving Windows 10 and I really want to enable Cortana for all the voice recognition goodness but when I configure it I get a message that says my "Microsoft ID will now become my signon" or something like that.I leave the notebook powered on all day and when I walk away from the desk I lock the screen. Waking it up has a simple 4 digit password, very quick and easy. I must lock the screen 20x a day.Am I reading things correctly? If I enable Cortana I will lose my 4 digit passcode and every time I want to unlock the screen I will have to type in a lengthy email password with capital letters and digits and such?

So I thought I'd give Cortana a try since I can turn it off again if I don't want it, however I get to the point where it makes me login, I enter my email address and password and then it takes me to the next step where it tells me something like you need to enter your current password just one more time.
I enter the same password one last time and it tells me it's wrong.
I go through it all over again and reset my password and try again, go though the first login and get to the second stage where it asks me to enter my password one "last" time, and I do and it tells me it's wrong again.
Try a third time, this time leaving the password blank on the 2nd step and still fails.
Edit: I know the password is correct as I've used it to login to live this morning, so not sure why it's not accepting it in the 2nd stage of the Cortana setup.
