Turning Off High Contrast
Oct 2, 2015Since I installed Windows 10, it automatically went to high contrast.
Every time I reboot - it reverts to high contrast again.
When I go to settings to change, none of the buttons there work for me.

In Windows 8.1, the word "color" appeared below the high contrast themes. By clicking on it, I could change the colors of a variety of items on the screen. My Windows 10 does not show the color option. Is this a characteristic of Windows 10, or is something not working in my version? How can I fix it?
View 1 RepliesI turned on high contrast mode. Now it won't change back to normal mode no matter what I do. I tried selecting None in the dialog box for high contrast mode and all the other modes.
View 1 RepliesWhat is the deal with windows and contrast? For many years windows has been lowering the contrast to the point that now with windows ten it is often impossible to see. The box I'm typing this in is basically invisible. The scroll bars are gone and I have to find them by waving my mouse around until I cross it. The selected link in my side bar is reduced to a then slightly grey line that simply cannot be located. This is just silly.
Is there any setting that can get some contrast back? And I don't mean the text contrast. I can read text fine. It is the controls, gadgets and highlighting that needs to be fixed.
My pc has recently decided to start turning itself on in the middle of the night, while its supposed to be hibernating (I'm not sure yet if it is also affected during a normal shut-down). I also haven't managed to lock down the exact time (if there is one) that this happens.
From some digging I did, some people seemed to think that the task scheduler was doing things by itself. I identified two task that looked like they might fit the criteria (below) - are either of these likely to be causing the spontaneous turn-ons, and what's the safest way to resolve this?

I upgraded one of my systems to 10 the other day and ever since it won't stay off, it just turns itself back on every time I shut it down. It was a clean install, not an upgrade. Never had this issue before the upgrade.
View 9 RepliesI noticed we had updates automatically installed today. The next thing I noticed was that when working in Excel if I didn't move the mouse within one minute the display turned off. After trying a few other programs I realize that it turns off after a minute in almost all my programs or even when I'm just reading a newspaper. If this is something from the latest updates? I never experienced this before. In fact, it just turned off while I was mulling over this post.

View 1 RepliesAfter shutting down my computer every night, at some point during the night the computer is randomly turning itself on. I have not changed anything that would indicate that this should occur. It didn't happen when I had Windows 8.1 and now that I have Windows 10 it does happen. How to fix it?
View 1 RepliesI have a computer with the following configuration: i5 4460, ASRock B85M-DGS, 8Gb ram HyperX, Sapphire Radeon R7 265 Dual-X (with latest video drivers 15.7.1), SSD Kingston v300 120GB, windows 10 with latest updates and my display is LED Samsung LT22D390 22 inch. Every day, about 5 minutes after I turn on the computer, my display is turning off and turning on after I click the mouse. I put in power options "turn off display" to never but nothing changed. On windows 8.1 I don't have this issue.
View 9 RepliesAfter researching the forums this morning I have decided to post my issue;
I am consistently resetting the UAC (image below) and rebooting to allow Edge and Calculator to function as normal.
What must be done to keep this setting in its place permanently? Never had this issue with Windows 7 and never had to put the setting in this position either, it just worked. I'm sure I need some education on this for Windows 10.
I have tried to modify (through the registry)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystemEnableLUA
Both ways (bit off/on) and nothing works. Maybe I'm not in the right area for this?
I always used to have my UAC turned off, and was very happy being able to quickly open up different programs with administrator privileges using the WinKey+R.However, ever since upgrading to windows 10, turning UAC triggers the "This app Can't Open" error [URL] ....
Searching for a solution quite a while, all I came across is suggestions to turn UAC back on. This is not an acceptable solution, I wish to keep the damn thing off, and don't see any reason why it should interfere with my ability to open the edge browser.
I am working on a .reg file to disable all the unwanted services. I do not know the keys to use for the following services and would like adding them to my .reg located below.
Security AccountsSystem Event NotificationWindows FirewallWindows Eventlog
And can you look over my current list and see if there is anything that 100% must not be turned off? Is there anything else you would add?

This is a problem I hadn't experienced until Windows 10. Whenever I play games on my PC, the audio seems to cut out roughly 10-15 minutes after startup. Sometimes earlier, sometimes later. It will just stop without any warning. When I exit the game and try to test the sound, for example: playing a youtube video, it works just fine.
But I'll start up the game again and voila! It works and then cuts out some time later. I've updated all of my sound card drivers and whatnot, video drivers up to date, etc...considering reverting back to windows 8 where I didn't have these problems.
Problem just happened while watching a music video on youtube, so it's not gaming specific. Still just as annoying though - if not more
Why does my PC keep turning on after going to sleep? it will sleep for like 30 Seconds and then turn back on... ive tried turning off the wake feature and stuff.
View 1 RepliesI have what sounds like a simple problem/question. It seems that rkill has disabled Windows defender. When I try to turn it back on through the settings screen, it says defender is disabled with no option to do anything about it. How can I turn it back on after rkill ?
View 8 RepliesI am having a really annoying problem when playing games. After about 10 minutes my screen will turn black and the light on my monitor goes orange as if it's not connected. When I installed Windows 10 I had the exact problem, but this was because it was defaulting to my on board graphics not my Graphics card and I fixed this.

View 1 RepliesI am having an issue on my Inspiron 15 where my cooling fan doesnt always start up. For example, ill start up the laptop, and start web browsing or playing a game, and the fan will never turn on. I have had it overheat and shut off a few times. But if i restart the laptop manually (start>power>restart), it will spin up automatically as it should. But then after a few more restarts, i will have a session where the fan will never turn on. Right now my only solution, besides a restart, is to use the program Speedfan, and ramp the fans to 100%. My other Inspiron 15, running a Broadwell i7 and Windows 10, has no issues at all.
View 4 RepliesI use a Lenovo Miix tablet as a "kiosk". The tablet hangs on a wall, and never goes to sleep - but it turns off the screen after 1 minute inactivity. Touching the screen should light it up immediately.
All this worked wonderfully with Windows 8.1. After the move to Win10, touching the black screen does not light it up. It seems that Win10 puts the tablet to sleep, although the power options are clearly set to "Sleep: NEVER".
I upgraded from Win 7 Pro to Win 10 Pro yesterday and so far everything works great, the only problem is that my secondary HDD always stays on. I have a 128GB SSD as my main drive and an 750GB HDD as my secondary drive for games, pictures and stuff. Since the latter runs at 7200rpm and is quite loud and my laptop is otherwise pretty much completely silent (when I turn the fan on stealth mode) I had created a power profile for studying that turns off hard drives after 1 minute of not using them and with windows 7 that worked just fine.
Now though, my secondary HDD never turns off. I checked task manager and resource monitor and found that my pagefile was on my secondary so I moved that to my SSD, but now it still doesn't turn off, even when Task manager and resource manager tell me nothing has accessed it for several minutes.
I was running Win 7 before the upgrade and I had the window focus setting to follow my mouse. In other words, I just needed to place my mouse in a window for it to be focused... no clicking necessary. There was a small delay in the focus and this worked well for me. I find in 10, however, that the delay is gone so as I move my mouse around the screen, windows popup very quickly. The easiest solution for me is to just turn off the feature. But I can't seem to find where to do that. In 7, this was done via Ease of Access menu but that option is not there in 10 nor is it in the mouse options and I don't see a Windows Settings option/menu anywhere. The only way I can manage my windows right now is to minimise everything other than the window I'm working in... this is a bit inconvenient.

View 1 RepliesI have an ASUS computer and prior to downloading windows 10 I was able to turn the touch pad off and use my mouse. With windows 10 my mouse works but so does my touch pad. I have tried going so far as deleting the touch pad driver but to no avail. Its gone for a few minutes and then returns.
View 2 RepliesI am running Win 10 on a laptop. I have changed all the power settings to "NEVER" for everything. The laptop is on AC (not battery). No power outages.
But when I come back after being away from the laptop for an hour or so. It is in sleep mode (I think) - I have to turn the button on and it comes on (to the way it was when I left but loses the connect to 2 of my USB ports. SO I have to restart the computer to be able to do anything.
