Just upgrading to Win 10 and noticed this morning that I am unable to change the settings from Read Only to allow all saved work. I have tried changing the Preferences, but as soon as I do, Apply, Ok and the settings refer back to Read Only. I haven't noticed this on any documents,only on Pictures. I have tried changing the directory and Pictures, but no luck.

I get the classic screen for changing themes. I choose a theme package but then cannot choose a background from within that theme. The usual window that has "slide show" under it doesn't come up anywhere. How do I solve this issue?
View 9 RepliesI use Windows Technical Preview, today a Chinese program(hao100) tried to install by itself on my computer in the morning(I don't know how) but I declined in the 'Terms and conditions page' and it wasn't installed. Later I checked my browser(IE as well as Firefox), the homepage got changed to inlinesearch.com.
I've tried everything I could so far to remove it but nothing works. I've played with browser settings and even reset both the browsers but nothing worked. Then I scanned PC for malwares and then for spywares but nothing was detected. I even went through my local disk(C:) but I didn't find any unknown software in program files. How I can change my homepage back to msn.
I recently did a clean install of Windows 10 which seemed to go well, but for some reason I am unable to change my desktop background, though the normal Personalization options. I can, however, go to the "Solid" option and change it to a different color. Also, if I download a wallpaper it only gives me the option to set it as the lock screen, and not the desktop.
A little background: This is the second PC that I've installed Win 10 on. The first was a newer laptop and I just went with the express upgrade from 8.1 and had no problems. The other laptop (the one I'm asking about) is a little older and I decided to do a clean install from Win 7 using the Windows 10 Media option downloaded to a USB drive. Also, when comparing the two desktops I notice that this second laptop has "WIndows 10 Home" displayed in the lower left hand corner of the desktop (as if it's a different version of Window 10, but when I went to the Win 10 update it says that No updates are required). After thinking that maybe the OS didn't install correctly the first time I went to Recovery and decided to Reset my computer, but that didn't change anything.
After researching this issue, the first thing I checked was the "Ease of Access" Remove Background Images was unchecked. Beyond that, I can't seem to find anything on the web that seems to address this.
FYI, basic system specs:
Sager Laptop (don't recall exact model)
CPU: i7-2760QM
GPU: Nvidea GTX 560M SLI
RAM: 8GB
I'm running Windows 10 (upgraded from 7 a month or so ago) on an HP Pavilion g6 laptop. My computer suddenly stopped being able to connect to the internet a few hrs ago and now no website opens in any browser. Torrents work fine, surprisingly.
Troubleshooting gives me this "Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource is not responding" ... I tried the flushdns, registerdns, ... routine but it doesn't work. Switching the router off and on again didn't work either.
When I try to change the DNS manually in advanced adapter options, on selecting 'validate upon exit' and closing the window, I get this message "Unexpected condition occurred. Not all of the changes could be made".
Upon googling I noticed on some forums people were pointing fingers at Virtualbox Bridged Networking Driver and VMWare Bridge Protocol. I can see these in the Properties window, but upon trying to uninstall these, I get another error 0x8007007E
I have uninstalled VMware, but the damn protocol is still there. I'm not sure if that is really what is preventing me from making changes to the Network's properties like DNS and IP ...
I am the only owner of my computer. And all the proxy options are grayed out.. ! "Some settings are managed by your organization" . I am using Windows 10 Pro.

The operating system will not let me change the lock screen background mode from Windows Spotlight to something else. I have searched for an hour without any luck. My laptop has had a history of breaking down. The first time was hard drive failure and I have lost all my data. The second time I needed to repair was when the computer got so slow it was unusable and eventually got blue screens at boot And I needed to reinstall the operating system. When I try to go to edit the setting it is grayed out and on the top it says Some settings are managed by your organization" I am not apart of any organization and I am the only user on the computer with Administrator privileges.
View 9 RepliesI tried out the Insider Preview 10547 build last night, but chose to roll back to the full Windows 10 Pro build due to not being able to fully apply custom themes and the context menu not coming up on the desktop. Anyway, the rollback went fine, but now for some reason I can't make adjustment to the Start Menu. When my desktop had finished rolling back to the previous build, most of my live tiles had disappeared, specifically the Settings, CMD, and a few other apps I had pinned to the menu. The only tiles that were still showing were the games I'd pinned before applying the 10547. I can't even bring up the Weather, Store, or many other apps by searching for them. The apps still show in Apps and Features under System in Settings, which means the apps are still installed, I just can't seem to access them, although I haven't tried to get to them through a file explorer yet. Also, under Choose which folders appear on Start, every setting is grayed out. I actually rolled back from a previous test build before and everything came up normally, so I'm not sure what happened this time.

It seems like my Lock Screen wallpaper is stuck on "Windows Spotlight". When I try to change to "Picture" or "Slideshow" in settings nothing happens, and when i choose "Slideshow" and then "Windows Spotlight" the preview turns grey with the loading indicator and nothing more happens.
Would really like to be able to choose my own lock screen wallpaper, though Spotlight is a pretty cool feature.
I have w10 on both pc and phone. How can i read sms via pc? The app dont show them, should i use cortana? How?
View 9 RepliesAfter updating to Windows 10 I created a homegroup and now everything in documents is stuck in read only. It's the filled in box not the checked box. I manually uncheck the read only and it goes right back to read only. I left home group and tried unsharing folders but no luck. I'm at a loss in what else to try. Also tried rollback and it fails. Tried reset and it fails. Tried image rollback and fails.
View 3 Replies Since I have upgraded to Windows 10 Pro, I noticed that all my folders' attributes are read only . Even if I create new folders, they are read only on creation. When I try to remove the read only attribute in the folder properties, it looks like it's removed, but when I check it again, it shows that it's read only. I tried other methods, like diskpart, and tried to take ownership of the folders
Is there any way to fix this problem? I can create new files and modify existing files in the folders without any problem, but it's really annoying, for example Steam says it can't install games and updates, because the folder what I choose to install games is in read only mode, the only solution is to run it as an administrator. I need to run almost every program as an admin, to make them usable, or they report problems with read only folders. The OS itself is up to date.

View 14 RepliesDue to corrupt windows files my pc is unable to start. i am able to go into the bios, but after that it will freeze on the windows logo during start up. i have made a usb windows 10 installer and tried to start the pc up using that as my hard drive (went into bios and changed it to use that as my hard drive) but it still freezes on the same screen. I even unplugged my hdd and booted up but the same thing happens so I don't believe the problem is with my hd.

I've used the DM Log Collector to get the DMP file, but I'd quite like to study it myself, and send relevant parts to Alfa (who make the offending Wi-Fi adaptor with the Atheros chipset).
I have a new Dell Inspiron 15 series 7000 which can with Windows 10. I am still learning my way around 10 and I'm no computer wiz. Some windows which open are very tiny. I am not referring to the size of the icons and text as it appears in some windows. Most windows are fine but a few are hardly legible. This is not browser specific, as one of the places I encounter it is when I do a Remote Desktop Connection. I have tried changing all of the display settings I can find but these adjust things across the board and once I get the small stuff large enough to see, much of what I do becomes way too large to fit on the monitor and is a real pain.
