View 3 RepliesSo I have an HP Envy laptop. Recently web browsing has intermittently become painfully slow on both Edge and Chrome (e.g. loading this website hung for a few minutes) and I have many timeouts on websites. This appears to be the case even when I use different Wifi networks. I do not have this problem with my desktop which shares the network.
I was wondering in Windows was in the middle of some update, but when I click on Settings -> Update & Security Settings, the control panel window simply loads a white field on the right and the words: Windows Update, Windows Defender, Backup, Recovery, Activation, Find My Device, and For Developers. I can click on nothing. The control panel often freezes (e.g. if I click on a web browser I cannot click back on its icon, but can see it if I minimize all other applications) and eventually auto-closes. When I search for Advanced Windows Update settings, I get a light blue screen with the control panel icon in the center which promptly auto-closes. I can access all other control panel options, just not anything below Update & Security.
I downloaded Microsoft Security Scanner and ran than across the entire system; no threats were found. I currently am running Windows Defender which last updated itself this early this morning.
I am using Windows 10 version 1511 OS build 10586.104.
I used to be a knowledgeable Windows user, but stop keeping current a couple of versions back. Does this sound like anything familiar or previously seen?
Using Windows 10 and since last upgrade, unable to open attachments in e mail accounts.
View 1 RepliesI have a PC with a 2 drive setup. Drive C: is system drive and drive D: contains all programs etc... installed on PC.When I go to upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10 I am not able to keep all programs and settings. I am only given the option to do a clean install.
View 4 Repliessince I upgrade my windows 10, I lose my Bluetooth setting.
View 1 RepliesSo I did the Windows 10 upgrade (WOOHOO!) Everything went smoothly during the install. As I was checking out the start menu I clicked on the little Settings cog in the lower left. All that happens when I do this is a super quick flash of what I assume is the settings window. Its there and then its gone. I also tried right clicking on my name and picture and the top and hitting change account settings. Same thing happens.
Maybe related: Many of my programs wont set as default, such as chrome and a few games want me to allow permissions EVERY time I open them.
It was working but now it won't open in Windows 10 ?
View 1 Repliesso ever since i installed windows 10 on my PC (it was a force install using the media creation tool), i can't open the settings. it crashes as soon as it opens up. it seems that no one has been having this problem, i've googled it. i've tried to open it from many different locations, nothing seems to be working.
View 1 RepliesI am unable to turn on the blue tooth in the Settings in Windows 10. It is refusing to turn on.
View 2 RepliesI just upgraded to windows 10 and I am connected to my router via an Ethernet cable and I am unable to locate the WiFi sense settings (probably because im using an ethernet cable ) I was just wondering if my password was still being shared with other networks even though im hooked up to a ethernet cable. I don't know much about these kinds of things.
View 1 RepliesThe settings app won't open on my laptop running windows 10. I'm aware that this is a common problem but the troubleshooter released by microsoft doesn't work for me, as it fails to detect a problem. I'm also aware that there is an update to fix this issue, but I can't access windows update.
View 1 Repliesso..i had w7, and today i found that w10 free update was available
downloaded it, installed it using express settings...it didn't do a clean install cause all my files are still there
w10 works fine, is fast, but for some reason i cant open the settings app
i try opening trough the start menu, and it opens and immediately closes i try opening the app trough the new action center all settings ..and the same..it opens and immediately closes also, when i right click on the wallpaper and click on the personalize item it also opens the settings app, immediately closes and a window pops up saying: THIS FILE DOES NOT HAVE A PROGRAM ASSOCIATED WITH IT.
since i had w7, now in w10 i have to register my MS account, but i cant because i cant get the settings app to open
Just upgraded. However, I just cannot get Settings to open. On clicking, a window opens and then disappears.
Edge also does not work. Type in a URL and I get "This page is having a problem loading".
I click on the Settings icon and it opens for a flash then closes. I am also having issues with connecting to my School's ethernet connection.
View 2 RepliesI downloaded Windows 10 manually using the official tool from Microsoft's website (MediaCreationTool). It installed ok but then once it finally booted thats when problems started.Windows 10 doesn't recognize my gpu (Asus GTX 960 Strix 2GB) and I cannot edit or open the control panel/settings application! This means I cannot edit any settings.Windows 10 looks like a brilliant OS but seems to be failing compared to Windows 7 (my old OS).
View 1 RepliesOk so I have a wireless Bluetooth device. It has worked fine connected to a windows 7 and 8 computer. Now I am trying it on 10. For the software I wrote for it to work properly I need to be able to specify which COM port it uses when connecting.
In windows 7 and 8 I would then go to "Bluetooth settings", click "New Connection", and then follow the setup wizard. Here I would be able to set the device to be in Dev mode and specify the COM port to always use. In the new windows 10 "Bluetooth settings" program I can not find a way to do this.
Also I have two different "Bluetooth settings" programs show up in the start menu. One I can open up and it will show my device, but I am unable to do what I mentioned above. The other program with this name has the same icon as what is on my Windows 7 and 8 machines, but gives me the error "unable to start correctly (0xc000007b)"
When I try to access Settings, I get the following error:
ms-settings:// The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.
I tried the command-line suggested and right after I hit enter, I get a flash of a window popping up on my screen and then it's gone. It's so quick I can't see what it's trying to open.
I am the only owner of my computer. And all the proxy options are grayed out.. ! "Some settings are managed by your organization" . I am using Windows 10 Pro.
View 10 RepliesI am using the mail program with Windows 10. The calendar and mail are working fine but I can't open my contacts.
View 1 RepliesWhen I first downloaded Window 10 Microsoft Edge opened a blank page, now I am unable to open Edge at all?
View 1 RepliesI have recently bought a laptop from PC Specialist. The initial setup went ahead without too much drama, however after having used the laptop for a couple of times since then, I logged in today and find I can't open and use the Mail app. The first thing I noticed was the Mail symbol had disappeared from the Taskbar and I can't find it on the Start menu or under All Programs either. The actual app on the right of the Start menu is showing but does nothing at all when I click on it although it does show headers from the emails in the Inbox. I have also tried to find the program in the Uninstall list but it's not there either.
View 2 RepliesI upgraded from 7 to 10 and went well.Firefox worked well in 7 and for about 2 weeks in 10 but now I can't open it.
View 14 RepliesI just finished a fresh install after going through several BSOD (which have now been corrected). I'm trying to change the settings and I can't changed date/time nor can I access the settings( Start>Settings). When I try and change the settings or date/time I get "This app can't open. Your trial period for this app has expired. Visit the Windows Store. Visit the Windows Store to purchase the full app." When I try to open Windows Store, same thing happens. Date/time is now an app?
View 2 RepliesI upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10. Now I cant open the settings screen.
View 2 RepliesI upgraded to Windows 10 earlier this week and I've had nothing but problems with it, namely that all of the new apps (Mail, Calendar, Microsoft Edge, etc) and a few of my 3rd party programs (namely iTunes) won't open. When I click on them from the taskbar, the Start menu, or Cortana, either nothing at all happens or I get a box that says "Explorer.exe: Element not found" or "RuntimeBroker.exe: Element not found."
After a long time on the phone with Microsoft support, we realized that my computer (Lenovo Ideapad Y580) wasn't yet compatible with Windows 10 because Lenovo hadn't developed the drivers for it yet. They said I should revert to Windows 7 until they create them. Here's the problem though: One of the apps that won't open for me is Settings, which means I can't get to the Recovery page to downgrade back to Windows 7.
Is there some way to downgrade without using Settings?
The settings window will not open when I click on the icon either in start-up, apps or "This PC" what's the problem is it an installation fault or something I'm not doing correctly? I can access device manager etc. and all the other Icons I've so far tried.
