A friend gave me some medical reference materials before I left on a volunteer position in Trinidad and Tobago, but most are in pdb format. I can open the MSWord and pdf files but unable to read the pdf files.
View 1 RepliesJust upgrading to Win 10 and noticed this morning that I am unable to change the settings from Read Only to allow all saved work. I have tried changing the Preferences, but as soon as I do, Apply, Ok and the settings refer back to Read Only. I haven't noticed this on any documents,only on Pictures. I have tried changing the directory and Pictures, but no luck.

I've used the DM Log Collector to get the DMP file, but I'd quite like to study it myself, and send relevant parts to Alfa (who make the offending Wi-Fi adaptor with the Atheros chipset).
I just installed windows 10 on a Sony Vaio svp132a1cw and the system is not reading my sd card with all my files.
View 1 RepliesI recently upgraded to windows ten but ever since I did my computer keeps telling me I do not have the correct permissions to read/write files. I have tried to change the settings to allow the one and only account the permissions. It works temporarily but after a few days it goes back to not allowing me again. I also tried activating the built in administrator account to save files but of course a built in administrator account cannot access the same things as the original account can.

I sent an epub file to my bro's Lumia 520 from my android and lost it. Cant open that file on his Lumia. Cant browse bluetooth folder in Microsoft Files explorer and Aerize File Explorer.
No book reader Sparrow reader, bookvise reader shows up that file in their list.
Whats going on? 2-3 years later, does WP still lacks capability to open up epub file sent over bluetooth?
Gotta try out this precise scenario: "Send epub file from Android to WP and open it in WP" and tell me, I lost 2 hrs today.
If not possible in WP 8.1, hope Windows 10 fixes this, but need confirmation about WP 8.1
Due to corrupt windows files my pc is unable to start. i am able to go into the bios, but after that it will freeze on the windows logo during start up. i have made a usb windows 10 installer and tried to start the pc up using that as my hard drive (went into bios and changed it to use that as my hard drive) but it still freezes on the same screen. I even unplugged my hdd and booted up but the same thing happens so I don't believe the problem is with my hd.
View 1 RepliesI am aware that windows 10 (I am used to Windows 7) will not negatively play MPG files. I know this is a side effect of the codec being ripped out to prevent DVD playback via Media Player. The annoying thing is I have quite a few family MPG files mainly from our ageing Sony Camcorder on my system. Luckily I have Cyberlink Media Show pre installed that can play the files within it's own software and the media suite (espresso) can convert said files to other formats.
However, converting takes time and it is frustrating that media player 12 won't do the job and Windows Explorer won't display these MPG files with the handy thumbnail within file explorer viewing. Given that I am a little distrustful of codec packs and all my other files such as MP4, WMV etc etc play well I am looking for a solution that maybe just allows windows explorer to display the thumbnails and as an added bonus Media Player can once again play them. It does seem draconian that MS stifled a common playback format such as MPG in the last 2 windows and a major backwards step. I know I could download something like VLC or Media Player Classic but it seems pointless seeing as I have software that can already play them.
I tried K Lite Codec Pack a while back but hated the effect it had that I uninstalled. It was causing thumbnails to constantly refresh everytime I opened a folder. So is there a way of slipping in a single codec only related to MPG files without risk of unsettling all the other stuff that works well? Many of the codec packs seem to have the unpleasant side effect of slipping in extra installations and seem very dodgy and capable of causing grief.
Having trouble with my computer put in a sd card and an error said directory not vaild so after some looking online it said to run sfc so did that but it did not fix some errors. Upgraded from Win7 my computer is custom built...

I can go to any folder and delete files, but I when I see the same files in a search result, pressing del does nothing and when I right click, I have no option to delete them like I do when I'm just viewing a folder. Am I missing something completely obvious here? Is this really a feature or a bug or what?

I think that it may be somehow related to a few errors happening on my laptop--such as live tiles not working, and the inability to use some apps without crashes.
Since upgrading to Windows 10, I have been unable to burn iso files to disk, sometimes I get an error message, saying this could be due to disk utility burn speed. Most of the time just a message, an error occurred.With this same computer, I never had a problem with Windows 8, I also have Linux Mint, dual-booted on this laptop, and it will burn images to disk.Is there some way to tweak the disk burn utility?
View 9 RepliesI've newly installed W10 Pro and am constantly being pestered with permission nags (see attached) while attempting to reorganise files within the Local Disk.
I've tried changing the User permissions via "Properties>Security" but encounter nothing but a load of error messages.
I upgraded from Windows 7, bypassing 8 entirely so I've never had to tackle this issue before. I'd like full access without annoying UAC-related notifications every two minutes!
My pc is about one year old and I was running Windows 7. Since updating to Windows 10 I am being denied access to some of my files. When trying to access some of my Word files I get the following message " looks like you don't have permission to view this file. Check permissions and try again". Another message I get when trying to access some other files is " user does not have access privileges ". I am the sole user of the PC and always have been. I have tried to solve this but have not been successful.

View 3 RepliesAs with many I have upgraded to Windows 10 today and it is going well except for the fact I am unable to save any files or create new ones in the Documents and Pictures folders or any sub-folders within these folders. For instance, I tried to save an image created in paint and attempted to save it in the Pictures folder, it gave me the error message seen in this picture below:
Note, I am the only user on the system, and also the admin account so I do not know why it says this. Clicking Yes on the box does nothing and the same thing still occurs afterward. In addition, bringing up the right click menu and going to new only allows me to create a new folder, and the windows admin shield icon appears next to it. Deleting files also prompts me to ask for admin permission but in that case I can simply click the continue button and it goes through.
Since receiving a windows 10 update I have been unable to download excel and word documents sent in emails. Also all PDF files have been changed to Microsoft Edge ??

View 9 RepliesAfter updating to Windows 10 I created a homegroup and now everything in documents is stuck in read only. It's the filled in box not the checked box. I manually uncheck the read only and it goes right back to read only. I left home group and tried unsharing folders but no luck. I'm at a loss in what else to try. Also tried rollback and it fails. Tried reset and it fails. Tried image rollback and fails.
