Since I've upgraded to Windows 10, most of the time when my Surface Pro 3 goes to sleep or stand-by, most (if not all) of the universal apps (mail, edge, etc.) freeze. When I return from sleep, their windows are all completely unresponsive, except for the minimize and close button on the top right.
View 3 RepliesI have a problem with my Asus S56C, I have frequent BSODs, but they only occur after few seconds or few minutes out of the Stand By mode. It does not happen after restarting restarting or turning on the PC. I have already tested the RAM and Hard Drives. Updating to Win 8.1 and then 10 did not change the problem or the way it happens. Since it might be a driver problem, I have tried to play a little bit with Driver Verifier but the drivers are so many that I was not able to identify only one and then I stopped because it was really too time consuming. I updated all thedrivers manually from the Control Panel, but it did not change anything. For the rest the computer is fine, I sent it to the ASUS Service when was still under warranty and they replaced RAM, HD, DVD-ROM, but not the 24 Gb SSD. It also came back with a clean Windows 8 but it had the same problem after installing just Avast, Chrome and Mozilla (I have already uninstalled Avast and no improvements).
View 1 RepliesI saw several threads dealing with sleep/standby problems, but I'd like to pinpoint a specific point: My computer goes to sleep (first display switch-off, then CPU/MB standby) but only according to default timings. If I change the timings, they are used when computer sleeps for the first time, but then timings immediately revert back to default. Since I have Windows 10 Home, I can't use gpedit to investigate Group Policies setup.

When I go to device manager- USB root hub- right click - properties -power management tab, the option "allow this device to wake computer" is inactive. But "allow this computer to turn off this device to save power" is active and unticked.

First time around, i uninstalled all of it using power shell but i ended up needing the store and one other app but W10 went retarded and didn't allow me to reinstall the packages, so this time around. I just want to organize them into a folder that i will never touch .
i don't feel like downgrading back to 8.1 which as it stands right now was better for me when using Start8.
The universal application does not show up in windows preview 10576..Is there anyway to get that?

I have "Don't require a password" selected in the Control Panel Power Options.
Surface 3 sleep and screen shut off are both set to 3 minutes on battery power. Before Windows 10 the option to sleep wasn't there as I recall, as screen shut off and sleep were the same thing on that system.
I've done a restart, yet every time it wakes from sleep I have to enter my account password. Why is something this simple not working?

I'm encountering a number of random scrolling issues within Edge and other Universal/Modern/Store apps. When scrolling a web page, the page gets "stuck" and won't move within the browser window. Edge itself remains responsive - I can reload the page, or close its tab. And other tabs remain unaffected. Also, links on the page itself still work. I can actually interact with the portion of the page that's visible, just not scroll it in any direction. Reloading the page doesn't fix it, but if I close the tab and reopen it, then load the page again, it works (happened just this morning on "Dilbert.com" when viewing one of Scott Adams' blog entries).
I've noticed this behavior in at least one other app: Readiy (an RSS reader app). In the main "All Items" view, the list of articles will often become "stuck," much like a web page in Edge. I've also noticed the behavior occurs more often when using the touchpad in the Type Cover of my Surface.I'm running the Insider Preview build 10532 on a Surface 3 (not Pro) w/4GB RAM.
I have been monitoring for several weeks to try and find a pattern. After startup (fresh) or from sleep by Pc works fine for a several minutes or hours then just freezes!! I thought it was the sleep issue but now i notice it does it from a fresh start.
I have also tried using different browsers no different. It can happen when dragging to another monitor but it also happens when doing nothing it just freezes the mouse. I cannot recover i cannot activate Task Manager. I have reboot via pc power button.
I have latest drivers i think also Event viewer report not shutting down properly not sure if that is the crash or what. I keep loosing lots of work I am on.
Freezing, black screen, no cursor, monitor goes to sleep, computer still running after upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7. Must manually force computer shutdown. HP desktop.

I tried to restart the explorer process (which made it worse), restart the machine several times, and nothing has worked.
I'm having an issue, ever since I installed Windows 10(upgraded, then did a clean install), I've been having issues with Excel. I have Office 2013 and everytime I open an excel document, then close it when I'm done, it freezes. Only happens on excel though, Outlook and Word work fine(only other 2 programs I use). I've done the quick repair and the Online slower repair, along with uninstalling and reinstalling Office. None of these have worked. Is this some kind of bug with Windows 10 or is it just me?

I am little frustrated as my laptop crashes frequently when not in work. It runs well when I am doing any task, I mean when mouse and keyboards are in use. But if I keep my laptop open and there is no activity, immediately after sometime, it crashes and shows BSOD. For each case of BSOD, the problems are different. I have analyzed the minidump file (Though I am not an expert, but tried) and each minidump files says different causes and lists different programs as affected, but I could not make a solution for it. analyze the dump files and tell me exactly what is causing the problems from the attached minidump files.
I am running Microsoft Windows 10 Pro on HP 14-r029tx laptop with 4th generation Intel Core-i3 processor, 4 GB DDR3 Ram and 2 GB NVIDIA GeForce 820M Gfx card.
My laptop is Leveno running Window 10. I got BSOD a lot recently, sometimes while using the laptop surfing on the Internet and sometimes activating it from standby. The errors I got were Critical Process Died, 000021a, and kernel error I have uploaded the error files for your interpretation.

View 4 RepliesI'm officially getting the new Surface Book on Monday. All of my personal files & folders (Documents, Pictures, Music, Videos, etc.) are stored in OneDrive, so there's no problem there. However, there's one pesky app whose data I don't know how to save. The popular universal app for Windows 10, Sonic Dash, doesn't make use of cloud sync in Windows 10 (this feature is actually turned on in the iOS and Android versions of the game). This means every time you reinstall the app on any one of your Windows devices, you lose all your progress and have to restart all over again on that device. This means anyone who is getting a new device Monday will have to forfeit all their game progress, missions completed, characters unlocked, rings collected, upgrades purchased, etc. when they get their new device.
(I recently asked Windows Central users to tweet the developers Sonic Dash and ask them to enable cloud backup in Windows 10, either through OneDrive or Facebook, so that your game progress would sync across your devices. I think this is still a great idea, and ask you to tweet @HLGames if you haven't yet. However, it technically won't work in time for my switch to the Surface Book on Monday).
So, I'm wondering how I can manually save my game data and transfer it to my new Surface Book manually. Conceivably, all of the app data should be saved to my current computer somewhere, able to be transferred to a different device somehow. Any ways to preserve my game data and transfer it to my new Surface Book?
I have used the usual route to changing a default icon in "Properties" for internet shortcut(s). However, changing one file icon strangely does not change all the rest. Is this a bug? Is there a workround?

View 4 RepliesWindows Store apps close sometimes when resuming from sleep? It doesn't happen all of the time, but on my Lenovo Yoga 2 pro, its often enough to notice. Its probably supposed to be similar to how Windows 8 would tombstone apps, but this seems a little more aggressive since its not suspending them . Its most annoying when Edge shuts down because its closing all of the tabs too and doesn't resume them when its reopened.

Today during restart I got message that app "Elera" (or something like that) was preventing restart. After restarting I couldn't find this app in the start menu or in Control Panel Progs and Features! I did find a McAfee app in the Start Menu, but it was not in Control Panel list.
My SP3 was originally on Win 8.1. I used Microsoft's media creation tool to create a USB installer for Win 10, then upgraded to Win 10 from usb. After upgrading, I verified that Win 10 was activated. I then booted from the USB installer and did a clean install.
The strange thing is, every few days, "Activate Windows" would appear on the bottom right of my screen. When I try to activate windows, I get this:
However, sometimes upon restarting the SP3 it would be activated again.
So basically after a certain amount of time, when I reboot my Surface Pro 3 or sometimes even leave it running for that long, I wind up getting hit by an error that says that I need to verify my identity. I then have to go over to the Accounts option in Settings and then click the word "Verify" to type my PIN in, otherwise all installed Windows Store apps crash, Cortana becomes disabled and reverts back to the standard search function. I've already tried making a new User Account, reinstalling Windows 10, using an account troubleshooter, restarting and signing in with my original password (not the PIN), clearing the extra devices that are called "PC" under my account that my Surface Pro 3 seems to create every time this issue appears at URL... and Sign in to your Microsoft account, changing my Microsoft account password, and of course, verifying my identity by typing in my PIN. Nothing works. Aside from taking a hammer to the device?
