View 2 RepliesI have an HP DV7 laptop that I upgraded from Win 7 Home to Win 10 Home. After the upgrade I noted that once my laptop goes into hibernation 1 time and you bring it out of hibernation, the laptop then ignores the power settings and immediately goes back into hibernation after 3 minutes of inactivity. As long as you're moving the mouse or typing on the keyboard you're OK but if your totally inactive then in 3 minutes the machine will go into hibernation. Note also that this does this even when the laptop is directly connected to a power source and not running directly on the batteries.
View 1 RepliesA few weeks ago I set my app updates to manual. I missed the visibility when something is actually getting updated. Anyways, I manually check for updates 1-2 times a day and see 3-4 on average. This morning I checked and 40 apps were queued up. I am not and have never been on the Insider program on this machine.
I should have clarified: This is Win10 on a Surface 3.
I have an ASUS UX303ln with a clean install of Windows 10 in UEFI boot mode. It seems that: when I turn off the computer it turns off the screen and fans, but stays on, consuming an unusual amount of energy (in about 30% of the cases it actually turns off properly)When I hibernate the computer, same thing happensWhen I put it to sleep, in about 60-75% of the cases it won't wake up, instead it will just enter this high power mode with screen off, mentioned in the first bullet point.
These issues persist, even after turning off hybrid sleep, fast startup, hibernation, changing over to CSM boot, trying to downgrade/update drivers for Intel Bluetooth (which sometimes was stopped by windows due to not being Windows 10 compatible), the Management Interface, and Intel and Nvidia drivers.
I have some issues with the metro apps in Win 10. They don't open, and have unusual names. This actually started a couple days ago when my taskbar and start menu wouldn't open. While browsing the web, I saw exact same issue get told to enter a powershell command and he replied saying it fixed it. The command in particular was:
Code:
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml"}
Long story short, It did anything but fix it, and gave it messed up names. I can click and click, but nothing shows up, even for a split second. I've tried to open an app from the .exe inside System32.
I did two upgrades - one 10 home x86 and the other 10 home x64 - and they completed without error. The only issue I'm seeing on both of them is I can't re-enable a number of auto-starting items that I disabled before running the upgrade. I used the Ccleaner startup manager to turn them off; now when I run Ccleaner the disabled items show however when I enable them they don't stay enabled. I ran System Configuration (aka Msconfig) and it is showing "selective startup", however changing to "Normal startup" also doesn't stick. I've been able get a few of the apps to auto-start again by toggling their "start with windows" option, but the other apps don't have that setting. Uninstall/reinstall would probably fix them, but I was hoping for a simpler way.
View 8 RepliesI can't figure out how to add new favorites to my favorites bar since going to windows 10. I click on the star to add and click on "add" but nothing happens.
View 2 RepliesI have a weird problem related to the calender. I upgraded my Lumia 1520 to W10M and made entrys in the calendar. They are made into my Outlook calendar.
Still after 24 hours, the entrys wont appear in the Windows 10 desktop calendar. I also checked in Outlook 2016. No entrys. First I thought the Windows 10 Mobile didn't sync but than I was checking online under calendar.live.com and everything is there. I compared with other entrys, but can't find a different or wrong option.
When I made calendar entrys with Windows Phone 8.1 everything displayed fine and synced. Now why other devices don't like my W10M entrys except the browser version. What can I do?
Forget to check the calendar in Outlook 2016. It's also there, but still not in the app. I like to use the app, because of live tile.
I recently upgraded my windows 7 laptop to windows 10. It would seem to have been successful. When I plug in a USB memory stick OR a USB external drive - the device shows twice in the directory. As I type this, I have a USB external hard drive plugged in. The directory list shows 2 entries 'E Drive' - when both are expanded, each has full details of the disks content!

View 2 RepliesTrying to share some folders between two PC's on my network.I can in one direction but not in the other. And it's the other direction that I need it to work. The Issue appears to be the HTPC. When I run the network diagnostic tool on it I get,"one or more network protocols are missing on this computer" .I ran the trouble shooter for all the options under "Incoming connections" in each case it says the issue is resolved. However nothing has changed even after a resart. If you run the diagnostic straigt after the fix the error is still present so it's never fixed at all.I also tried disabling net bios of tcp/ip as per this recommendtion said Network Protocols
running
netsh winsock reset
and
netsh int ip reset
with no change after a restart
This URL...appears to be the same issue as mine with a possible solution. My only concern is that it requires deleting parts of the registry and i'm worried of the possible consequences. Is there no *.reg file out there that can fix this in a safer way ? Or another safer method to attempt this fix ?
So, if you go to SETTINGS > SYSTEM > NOTIFICATIONS & ACTIONS > SELECT WHICH ICONS APPEAR ON THE TASKBAR.It gives a list of all the icons you can make visible one taskbar ... including ones I have uninstalled and will never use again! It even has the "Get Windows 10" option on there, even though I've now upgraded to Windows 10. I mean C'MON, MAN!
Is there any kind of hack or tweak that will let me delete these unwanted entries and clear the list up? (I've attached a picture with a couple of these unwanted entries circled.)
I've recently upgraded from Windows XP to 10 (64-bit), and the .reg files I've crafted for adding custom file associations don't work anymore. What's changed? How do I make them work again? Sample:
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareClasses.pdf]@="user.sumatra.pdf"[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareClassesuser.sumatra.pdf]@="PDF Document"[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareClassesuser.sumatra.pdfDefaultIcon]@="F:BINSumatraPDFSumatraPDF.exe,1"[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareClassesuser.sumatra.pdfshell][HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareClassesuser.sumatra.pdfshellopen][HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareClassesuser.sumatra.pdfshellopencommand]@=""F:BINSumatraPDFSumatraPDF.exe" "%1""
I have the following entries in my system start up:
Windows 10
Windows 10
Windows 7
How do I remove the last two entries so startup just shows one Windows 10 only or just boots right into Windows 10 without a start screen ?
I use my Favorites Bar in IE11 to hold a boatload full of links. I think it is easier to click on the >> and go to a new link than clicking on the Star to go to a new link.
I decided to use the Favorites bar in EDGE but I forgot that you cannot reorder the entries to put what I consider my most used favorites at the front of the Favorites bar. So I thought I would delete the Favorites Bar folder from my Favorites and create a new one from scratch with my most used favorites. I followed the links to get to the Favorites but the Favorites Bar folder is not there! Where it went? Can I delete it if I find it or at least delete all but the entries I want? Or if those options are not available, how I can delete all of the entries in my Favorites bar without having to do them one at a time?
I've been having network issues recently, mainly an inconsistent network connection, and I've noticed that while most of the time it works fine, on certain routers, it will immediately disconnect from the router. Furthermore, when it stays connected and it cannot get Internet, nor ping anything, and I run the troubleshooter, I get the error of "Windows Socket Registry entries missing". I know that this was a well documented bug back a couple months ago, and I'm wondering, has Microsoft just not gotten around to fixing it yet? Also worthy of note is that my "Connect automatically" settings for Wireless networks are no longer being saved.
View 2 RepliesI bought a new Acer Aspire desktop about 6 weeks ago and immediately upgraded from Win 8.1 to 10. I have intermittent problems with accessing both Gmail and Facebook, often having to switch browsers, shut down all browsers and reopen, or reboot the computer. Even when I gain access it doesn't last for more than an hour or so before I start to have trouble following links, viewing pictures, etc. I have AVG (full version) installed and have checked Firewall options. I ran Malwarebytes once and that worked for a while (deletion of registry entries??) but then the problem recurred.
View 6 RepliesAfter a system refresh of Windows 10 all external disk storage drives, Micro SD and USB are listed twice in file explorer. This is a common problem, reported many times in forums and community support web sites. Could a solution be to reload file explorer. Is this possible and where would I find the download?
View 1 RepliesEver since I changed over to Windows 10, I have had a problem with using the "Safe Sender" option in Windows Live Mail. Everything else works great, but when I send an email address to Safe Sender, or add it manually, the name goes in the list but won't stay there if WLM is restarted. That is, the next time WLM is brought up again, the recent additions are missing again. It is as if the Safe Sender additions were only stored in temporary memory that is wiped out every time WLM is restarted.
I have repaired Windows Essentials in "Programs and Features" twice - to no avail.
Nothing submitted in Safe Sender will stay permanently on the list since Windows 10.
On the new Edge browser how in the world do you clear select autocomplete entries?
I can highlight them with the arrow keys but have now clue how to delete individual autocomplete entries.
I know that you can clear all under the settings but I only want to delete certain ones.
Upgrading from win 8.1 Pro to win10. Seemed to be going well and then saw lost internet connection in systray. Troubleshooting came up with "windows sockets registry entries required for network connection are missing". I can connect to the internet but not to the LAN.
View 7 RepliesProblem trying to connect to internet on laptop, but all working as normal on desktop.
Investigations revealed....one or more Network Protocols are missing on this computer, also Windows sockets registry entries required for network connectivity are missing....this on both Ethernet and wireless but they had been working perfectly since the update last week.
My laptop supposedly required "Internet connections Package Version 3.0 Publisher Microsoft Windows."
After messing about for an hour without success I loaded the 1511.. ISO.. knowing that I could not connect to the internet to download anything, this seemed to solve the problem, (fingers crossed) I can only assume this made the internet connection possible.
I have three entries (among others) that are slated to startup when I logon. Each of them are featured twice in the start up tab of program manager.
On checking with autoruns I found that they occurred twice in the registry under
HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun
and
HKLMSOFTWAREWow6432NodeMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun 14-12-2015 02:23
Is this normal?
My laptop is running windows 10 64 bit.
I've got two standard profiles and one administrator profile on my lap top.
Win+X works for the standard profiles , but not for the administrator profile. How come?
I have checked that the winx files are where they should be in (<administrator>/appdata/local/Microsoft/Windows/winx)
Could they be corrupted? Could I just copy the files from one of the standard profiles that works, to my administrator profile? Would that solve it?
I am set up to start up without having to log in. but every time I start the laptop after about 5-10 minutes I get a notification asking me to 'click here to enter your most recent credentials, your microsoft account needs you to sign in again. If I click as it asks it takes me to Settings - mail and accounts which reveal that I am signed in. It makes no difference to my mail account whether i click or not as I can access the mail app and the store and anything else that needs a Microsoft account without problem. I am assuming that an update a few weeks ago caused this. It has no effect on the machine and if I click the notification and get the settings page all I have to do is close the settings app and the notification goes away until the next time I start up.
View 11 RepliesFor me, the notifications on my desktop only show mails, system notifications and nothing else. No other app uses the notification system, while they could (for example skype, viber, games and so on).The notification system is another failing feature or we hope to be improved?
And secondly is the expand button, where you can press the little arrow and it will show you 50 more characters of the message/mail you got. it is obvious that this doesn't work, if you have used it you know: if it is an email, you want to read it all, or you want to mark it as read, or you want to reply, but you cannot do it through the expand button, so it is useless. On w10m you can answer an SMS from the notification bar after pressing the expand button, which is great! But why not any other app uses that feature? Is the expand button another failing feature or we hope to be improved and used by other apps??
