View 4 Replieshow there's no option to turn off automatic Windows Updates. There's only the option to allow new updates to download and install automatically. And the other option to choose when you want to install the updates. But no option to turn off Windows Update from downloading updates. If you wanted to download and check for new updates manually.
Why must Windows 10 security depend on Windows Defender to run occasional scans and to protect the computer, when you have your own security product such as example Norton. Which does regular frequent scans and has more regular definition updates than Windows Defender? If you have a high performance computer. Store apps you can get and install. Most apps have lagging and crashing issues at odd times if your in a middle of a project, watching media or playing mobile app games.
Using third party themes that Microsoft provides. Particularly themes that has multiple wallpaper slideshows. Causes desktop to act up. If you adjust if you're a gamer. Adjusting the graphic settings from Window to Full Screen or vice versa constantly. It causes desktop screen to be chopped, leaving echo past activity screens that you have closed. Which then makes you having to come to the conclusion of restarting Windows to get it back to normal.
As for pc games. If you play some games that aren't Windows 10 supported. You experience issues trying to get the game to load, crashing back to desktop or even internet stability issues for games that uses internet. It amazes me how Microsoft promotes Windows 10 with full of pride of them saying in certain Outlook Microsoft newsletter promotions. That they say Windows 10 is perfect for gaming. When it clearly proves the opposite.
What is the identification number of the last Windows 10 automatic update?
My installation of Windows 10 was done August 14.
The last automatic update I received was KB25533437 on August 15.
I am wondering if Windows 10 will automatically create restore points before installing forced updates. If not, will we be notified about these updates before hand so we can make restore points manually? In previous editions of Windows, we were often offered optional or recommended updates. Will such updates be forced or not offered any more?
View 1 RepliesSo on RTM build, you used to have these options:
But now, in TH2, you only have this:
Is it going to be like this every single update? If so, I'm done with Windows 10.
on a no-problem notebook of a Relative, win ran an update last night at 4 and came up with this:Most App-Links are gone, Apps still there. But Firefox, Outlook and others seem completely reset as if freshly installed, no accounts set f.e.Win demands hardware driver installation for Wifi. And a bunch of personal files on the Desktop are gone.
View 1 Replies1) I disabled Windows Update in Services to avoid having to deal with the updates. Later I put it on "manual" instead of "disabled". Today I find that my computer is "installing updates" WITHOUT a) my permission and b) without notifying me that there were updates to install. This thrashed my hard drive with near constant 100% usage from something called Windows Modules Installer Worker. I killed the process, rebooted after some Adobe Reader issue (unrelated....I think). Upon selecting "restart" Windows informs me that it is updating my system WITHOUT my permission. It continues, updates, says finished, restarts to 0%, finishes, reboots.
Upon restart--which takes FOREVER by the way without the "updating" message, when it used to only take a few seconds to boot up--I go to Services where I find Windows Update is set on "running". Even though I manually stopped it, and set it to "manual trigger" start....
2) After restart when I am in Services to kill Windows Update and set to manual--again--I see something called Update Agent, set to run automatically. I do not remember this service from before, and what it does different from Windows Update. I set it on manual as well.
What does Update Agent do differently from Windows Update? They are listed as separate services
What happened to make my computer update without my consent??
This is my main operating system:
I am trying to set the frequency detection of Windows update. So, I go to this menu in the Group Policy Editor:
As you can see though, that other setting must be enabled. So, I navigate to its menu and try to set it. I do not know what should I put in those boxes though...
- How can I set the Automatic Updates detection frequency to four hours?
I have Windows 10 Home Edition, like millions of others. Like millions of others, I prefer to hibernate my computer rather than shut it down outright most nights. And like millions of others, I am getting awakened IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT because Windows 10 is trying to notify me about updates! Repeatedly.
When I want information about updates, I'll ask. I've turned off the Update Service on the Services tab of the Task Manager. After some hours or some days, it turns itself back on. A cat-and-mouse game with Microsoft. I have stopped the automatic updates themselves but I can't stop the stop the aggressive notifications. Should I be happy? At least the computer is no longer shutting down without warning IN THE MIDDLE OF A PROJECT THAT I'M WORKING ON to update. But it stills turns on at various hours of the night, cooking with its lid closed, to provide me unbidden notifications of updates.
I need to stop this NOW, otherwise Microsoft can shove Windows 10 where the sun don't shine. I own this computer, not Microsoft. Can it be done? Or do I go back to Linux?
I have my settings on to receive windows updates automatically. In the past three weeks I keep seeing that in the history all updates have failed to either download or install.

View 2 RepliesThis is Windows 10 SL upgraded from Windows 8.1.At home I'm using 3G modem attached to wireless. This IS metered connection - notice the 3G part. At work I'm using dedicated connection from ISP so no need to worry.
View 9 RepliesHow can I turn off windows updates? The new windows update settings page is extremely basic and appears to lack many options from windows 7. I am concerned about updates downloading and update checks being performed whilst gaming. I would not be happy with bandwidth or system resources being used up during my play sessions as performance may be impacted. Is there any way to either disable the updates or to ensure update checks and downloads are only performed at specific times?
View 9 RepliesI'm trying to intstall updates for Windows 7 in Control Panel/Check for updates/Install Updates, but Upgrade to Windows 10 is on screen and I can't seem to proceed without the update. I already tried it and I don't like it so backed out. I don't want to upgrade and want it off of my computer. How do I remove it and all the components associated with it? I only use it for personal use, email, Facebook, a few games, etc. and not for business. 10 was too confusing and there's no one over my shoulder teaching me a new system and where all my stuff went.
View 1 RepliesI've disabled automatic updates (drivers, Win updates) by making changes to Win 10. Now every entry in Update History is listed as a failed update. Of course, no update has failed; I don't want to install them yet. Is there a way to delete failed update entries?
View 6 RepliesContrarily to previous Windows versions, the user can no longer decide when and how to update Windows, but the OS does it all by itself - at any time, and unasked for. This occasions unexpected and unwanted machine slowdowns - sometimes at startup, sometimes at closing down, sometimes in the middle of a session. In my view a most annoying and disturbing interference in my normal workflow.
So, is there any way or tweak to take Windows Updates in hands again on that level?
This is not the only occurrence where Windows takes things in hands. Indeed, despite countless telephones to Microsoft, there is no way to prevent it from associating everyday graphic files (like for example jpg, gif, png and more) with its own clunky "Photos" utility, or send pdf files to its own and even more clunky "Edge" - instead of opening these files to the programs or utilities one has decided to associate them with. Trying to associate these via Settings, nothing at all, or just for a moment or, if one is in luck, for a whole session. But invariably Windows 10 reverts to its own "choices".
The only solution Microsoft could offer was to do a clean re-install of Windows 10. I don't call this a solution, but just plain amateurism.
How do I stop automatic W10 updates? Every time I have an update downloaded thing fall apart. Either Outlook stops working (Outlook not available try again later) or my Favorites bar disappears and has to be redefined, or like now, my Adobe is all sc.... up and I cannot delete adobe files or access my adobe files when I am travelling and off line. This Windows 10 is the worst mess I have ever seen in 61 years of IT/IS/Data Processing. My next PC will definitely be a MAC.
View 1 RepliesI don't use these garbage "apps", nor do I have a Microsoft Account attached to my computer.
Why am I forced to update these bloatware, preinstalled "apps" automatically?
I've been using Windows 10 Home since day one and I still haven't figured out a way to disable automatic app updates. When I go to the Store settings all I get is this:
However, I am the administrator. I know that in Windows 10 Home edition you cannot disable the updates that you get with Windows Update. Does this also include the updates that you get through the Store?
I checked for updates in update and security. shows updates waiting to install but can't get them to install automatically or manually. I ran ( I think it was) MS Fixit which said "Service registration is missing or corrupt" and can't offer a solution. I don't know how to repair or reload win10 as I don't have a system disk. I did make a backup usb stick before downloading win10. Would using this reinstall win 8.1?
View 6 RepliesBefore I updated to Windows 10, I must have damaged some files whilst trying to turn off Windows 10 notifications in Windows 7. I couldn't do any updates in Windows 7 either.
There is no error code. Windows update troubleshooter says: "Service registration is missing or corrupt."
I ran sfc/ scannow, it said it found corrupt files but was unable to fix it. The CBS log is attached. CBS.rar
Windows 10 seems to like rebooting without my permission - such as when I have a fullscreen game open, and I also miss the notification to postpone. How do I disable this? I don't have windows pro and thus cant use gpedit. The registry keys various pages suggested editing don't seem to exist.
I don't want to turn off windows update, I just want my laptop to never ever restart on its own, its a ridiculous "feature".
Microsoft has made it mandatory for Windows 10 users to update their computers. From what I understand, they have set the new operating system to automatically receive new updates by default. I also heard from a colleague that Microsoft recently released a tool that can be used to hide or disable Windows 10 updates selectively.
View 4 RepliesThis is a short solution to Force Stop Windows 10 UPDATE
>>Steps<<

2)Now Open Task Manager & Go to Processes n find Windows Process named "Service Host: Local System"
3)Expand it by clicking on ">" symbol &Search for Windows Update
