I do not want Windows 10 to update and restart my PC automatically - I want to decide when that is done.
In the Settings it is fixed at 'Automatic' update.
I have followed two suggestions to alter the setting that searches turned up, but neither have worked so far.

Here are the 2 Methods I tried.
I tried to change the windows update settings and I can't! I get a message saying that some settings are managed by my system administrator! I am the only user in this laptop with administrator privileges.
How comes that I can't change the settings?
Everything went well on the Win10 installation, but the only problem is that when I go to access the settings tab in the start menu, it just flashes briefly like it tries to open the settings window, and then disappears, so I can't access anything in the settings. No update checking, just nothing. Everything else seems to work... I can also access the system info window and it shows Windows 10 to be activated.
Edit: I can get to the control panel, and I can see Windows Update, but I get this error message when I try to click on it:

I have windows 10 pro and I have edited the group policy for windows update and has set it to notify me to download. My problem is that after a few days windows automatically download updates and install them though I had set it to notify to download. It seems that the settings are not permanent and windows resets the group policy settings. How can i make the settings permanent?

First of all I'll make a complaint. I am very disappointed with Windows 10. It's been one of the worst Windows ever made and sooner or later I will switch from Windows to some normal OS sofware. I have been let down too many times by it (not just 10 but all of the former as well) and I decided it's simply not worth my time, money and nerves.
Today Windows decided to do an upgrade on my computer and when I turned it on it said it was preparing something. After the welcome screen, I realized all my documents on the desktop have been missing, including majority of the shortcuts.
All the settings have been reverted, including theme, desktop image, default programs. In short, there's not much left untouched.
What's utterly intolerable it somehow deleted ALL my personal documents, pictures, literally EVERYTHING is lost. I just can't put up with it anymore. There were several files I need for my work, everything is simply gone.
I am running a fully updated Windows 10 Pro Eng. Build 10586.
I go to the start menu, click on settings and when I click on the Update & Security button the window just vanishes !
I have restarted and tried several times to no avail.
I am having trouble accessing MS app store and also updating office 2016 through any of the office applications.
My question is, will win 10 apps and office 2016 default update through windows update?
I today swapped from my AMD 8370 to an Intel Xeon 1231v3 and now when I'm trying to activate windows I get error with code: 0x8007232B. Do I need to reinstall windows or buy a new key what to activate with?

When I type in 'Windows Update' in the Search the web and Windows, the App always popped up for me to select it to check updates. It is no longer there? Using Windows 10 Pro 64bit, desktop, fresh install I did about a month ago.

This update is dated 29.10.2015 and consists of 2 updates.
KB 3105210 states "waiting for download" and KB 3106932 states "waiting for installation" It has been stuck on this for several hours and my attempts to use the repair tools have failed to resolve the problem.
Is there a way to get Windows Update as a feed (xml, rss) - so I know which updates are coming or know about them on day 1 release!
I know about the MS technet website for the security updates, but I'm on about general updates.
So far no real issue's to report running Windows 10 I really love it but here is my issue. Windows update has been stuck at 45% for the last 3 hour's and usually my updates go pretty quick. I've tried rebooting my system to see if the updates will finish installing but then it goes right back to 45% and stay's there.
View 5 RepliesIt seems like my Lock Screen wallpaper is stuck on "Windows Spotlight". When I try to change to "Picture" or "Slideshow" in settings nothing happens, and when i choose "Slideshow" and then "Windows Spotlight" the preview turns grey with the loading indicator and nothing more happens.
Would really like to be able to choose my own lock screen wallpaper, though Spotlight is a pretty cool feature.
So I installed windows 10 earlier this week, I believe the 7th of February. The system moves all my files into windows.old. I retrieve my vital files (mostly current projects and some game files) and marvel at how much faster my computer seems to run.
Then about 30 minutes ago an automatic windows update triggered when I restarted my computer. When my computer was rebooted, all the files from windows.old had returned and overwritten my progress since the 7th.
Everything, from old favorites I had thought gone, to my old desktop background, had returned. Worse still, the files I had moved from Windows.old onto the new desktop had disappeared, AND now my laptop is running slower, similar to when I was using 8.1. It's almost as if the computer had performed a rollback, except I'm still running windows 10.
Any way to roll back the last update without returning to Windows 8.1?
Windows sometimes update at inopportune or bad times.. Example: Today I was backing up files and the processed stopped for a noticeable time. I could not restart the process or shut the process down so I tried to restart the computer and that would not work so I had to turn off the computer to restart it. Problem was that the computer was in the middle of downloading and installing updates without my knowledge. It took awhile for the installing to complete. Is there a way to control this process.
View 2 RepliesShortly after the "Get Windows 10" icon appeared in the system tray of my Win 8.1 installation, I made the mistake of clicking on the "Get Windows 10" icon and "reserved" my copy of Windows 10. After some research, I elected to cancel my reservation for Windows 10 and did so by again clicking the "Get Windows 10" icon and going through the process to "cancel" my reservation. (I subsequently read Brink's fine post on "Get Windows 10 Icon -Remove from Taskbar in Windows 7 and 8.1" and did option four to uninstall the KB3035583 update). Now when I go to windows update and "search for updates", the search result is "install windows 10" though it does allow me to view "all available updates" which includes numerous "important" security updates as well as a few "optional" updates, one of which is Windows 10. I select the "important" updates, deselect the optional updates (including windows 10), and click install then get a dialog that "Windows 10 setup files are being downloaded" and an option to "cancel" (which I do). How do I stop Windows Update from downloading Windows 10 setup files and just download the "important updates" to secure my present installation of Win 8.1?

I'm currently installing a computer for someone who basically uses it to pay bills and read emails. They connect to internet with an USB dongle that connects to 4G network. It is a non-metered subscription and I've changed that connection from the Windows Settings to non-metered connection. However, I've noticed two things:
1. Windows Update won't donwload updates before pressing the download button (says that I'm using metered connection and charges may apply).
2. When starting Outlook 2013, program starts in offline mode for the same reason - metered connection. Always have to press the connect button there to get started.
Is there anyway to get at least the Windows Update to download and install automatically using 4G connection? If not from the Windows settings, maybe using gpedit/regedit?
Everytime I try update my windows 10 it gives this error.... I've searched google and all i see is ads for tech utilities...
View 9 RepliesMy Windows 10 updated last night with the cryptic message "Your files are Safe" update. Then none of my programs would open.
When i rebooted I became stuck in an endless reboot cycle. I don't know how to get out of the cycle.
I get to the login page then the laptop automatically reboots itself if i don't try login. If I try to login it also reboots. So i can't get past the initial login page.
When I run Windows Update on Windows 10 (ver 1511), I get the following error:
Hewlett-Packard - Imaging - Null Print - HP Deskjet 3520 series - Error 0x800f020b
I looked up the 0x800f020b error code and it says this occurs when an attempt is made to update drivers for a device that isn't connected. In my particular case, this device is connected via the wireless network and appears in my list of available Printers.
How do I get rid of this error?
I was wondering if you can clear your windows update history like windows 8 or 7 in 10?
View 2 RepliesIn Windows in the past you could go to the windows update download site to find the updates. It doesn't seem to work for Windows 10 cumulative updates. Is there a way to find these updates? I have even tried googling the kb numbers and it only gives details but not the file to download. I wanted to test the Wicd tool ability to add in updates to the media.
