Not sure if it's just me, but for some reason, since the Jan 12 patch Tuesday, I no longer see definition updates for Windows Defender on Windows Update's "View your update history" page.
I, for one, am happy about this change, since those "Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB2267602" were clogging up the update history page.
I have disabled Window Defender, but the Updates of Windows Defender Definition are still downloaded and installed.How do I stop it? I tried to use the Show or Hide updates to hide the Update of Windows Defender Definition, but it did not appear there.
View 1 RepliesI've disabled automatic updates (drivers, Win updates) by making changes to Win 10. Now every entry in Update History is listed as a failed update. Of course, no update has failed; I don't want to install them yet. Is there a way to delete failed update entries?

View 2 RepliesI am experiencing a strange issue with the updates of Windows 10 due to the disabled Defender. I have installed AVAST Free which in turn has disabled the Defender. With the Defender disabled, the system tries to update it and fails, but it also blocks the rest of the updates.For now I have fixed this by uninstalling AVAST.
View 6 RepliesHave had this error for a couple days now. Tried regular checks to verify system components and online image and windows update service diagnostics, cleaned up SoftwareDistribution, turned off non-Microsoft auto starting services, - all to no avail.
Also, ran netfxsetupverifier, which gave me the only error - aspnet.mof missing, which I presume is OK.
I no longer have a Windows update app to check for updates as I typically do. When I type in 'Windows Update' in the Search the web and Windows, the App always popped up for me to select it to check updates. It is no longer there? Using Windows 10 Pro 64bit, desktop, fresh install I did about a month ago.

A couple of days ago, I suddenly had a watermark in the bottom right corner of my screen saying that I should activate windows. I have a legit copy of windows and had it registered before when I installed it (about 5 months ago) and had no problems until now. When I go to the activation window and attempt to re-register, I get this message: "Windows can't activate right now. Try activating again later. If that doesn't work, contact support. Error code: 0xC004F012"
After trying this during different times of the day for about a week, I started checking other stuff and found another quite big problem: I can't start Windows Update.
The service is set to "disabled" and when I change it to anything but this, it automatically changes back after around 30 seconds. Up until now, Windows Update never had any problems and ran regularily. So then I started googling this problem and found some solutions, all of which do not work:
I tried resetting the Windows Update ([URL]), but that didn't work either, since it coulnd't complete every step. It failed when running "sfc /scannow" at around 15%.
So I searched for solutions to that problem and found this: [URL]....
Checkdisk worked fine, but then I noticed another problem, I can't even run DISM to fix stuff. Attempting to run "Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" returned an error, saying that the remote procedure call failed...

Short version: suddenly windows is no longer activated, windows update can't be started, sfc and dism fail... I would love a solution that does not require me to completely reinstall windows!

I realize that I can see it in Control Panel Programs. Programs and Features Installed Updates but I am curious if there is a way that I can bring this info back to Settings.

There is currently 10.6GB of free space on the system partition.
I have just (on Friday 20 Feb 2016) installed the Windows 10 upgrade from the MS site.
Took 6/7 attempts to finally get it done.
HDMI driver not working
Audio not working properly (keeps saying USB Audio playback default) I don't have anything plugged in. I have a realtek HD Audio installed.
Wifi is very flaky.....keeps disconnecting or reporting limited connection intermittently......15/20 times a day.
Running virgin Superhub, with 150mb pipe,
everything was working perfectly prior to the Upgrade from windows 7 sp1 to Windows 10.
I cleaned installed Win10 Pro using the Media Creation Tool and how come I only got 3 updates? I am assuming I would get more updates than these.
Running version 1511 build 10586
Is it because Win10 is too new ???
And I kept pressing the Check for Updates button and it said no more new updates.
I've been trying unsuccessfully to use Windows Update but keep getting the error code 0x800705b4. Windows Defender is turned off, and both Windows Firewall and Norton Anti-Virus has been temporarily disabled, but it still won't work. I don't know what's wrong.

View 2 RepliesI am running windows 10 pro and now i want to update my system using "Windows Updates". The problem is that Windows Update is showing numerous new updates for the system but i have a mobile broadband (ie. usb dongle type) for internet purposes over which i want to download all the system updates. but the updates wont download maybe because Windows 10 has set this connection type as 'metered'.
Whats even worse is that the metered and non-metered choice is grayed out and i cannot change it. I then tried the command prompt method described on this site. it momentarily does change the mobile broadband connection as 'Unrestricted' but STILL windows wont download any updates over this connection .
I want to know HOW to download updates through Windows Update application using my mobile broadband connection.
editing the relevant registry entries to force Windows use mobile broadband for Windows Updates?
PS: I don't have ANY other source of internet ie. Wifi or Ethernet.
How can I turn off windows updates?The new windows update settings page is extremely basic and appears to lack many options from windows 7. I am concerned about updates downloading and update checks being performed whilst gaming. Today, I just did a reboot, and I login and now it says I'm no longer activated?It gives me a big error in red saying "Windows can't activate right now. Try activating later. View 2 RepliesAfter a series of updates, one of which must have been at issue, ALL of my conversion software applications now fail to /convert/ any files. The programs load properly but that is followed by various issues depending on the app.
Tipard will load, load video files, and start to convert... but immediately fail upon starting the conversion process.
Handbrake will load, but locks up on loading a file, any file, regardless of length, at the 20% mark.
MakeMKV won't load at all.
VLC randomly crashes, or refuses to play videos, music, or anything, after an undetermined amount of time.
My FTP software no longer loads its settings files and scripts.
And an annoyance, all of a sudden all my icons have little green check marks on them.

At one time, I had Windows 2013 on my desktop computer. At some point I upgraded to Office 2016 and uninstalled Office 2013. However, every day for weeks now, Windows Update has tried (unsuccessfully) to install the following:

I don't know if other updates are being blocked because these can't be installed. Plus, there appears no way to tell Windows Update NOT to try to install these again, as previous versions of Windows had.
It seems I have 3 monitor 3s. As a result, the same image now shows on all 3 screens, as opposed to the way it used to work (where all 3 screens would have different images).

Requires uninstallation then re-installation of printer driver to regain network printer access/functionality. I and my family are just so impressed </sarcasm>Indeed so impressed that my daughter just bought a MacBook. View 6 RepliesI'm trying to intstall updates for Windows 7 in Control Panel/Check for updates/Install Updates, but Upgrade to Windows 10 is on screen and I can't seem to proceed without the update. I already tried it and I don't like it so backed out. I don't want to upgrade and want it off of my computer. How do I remove it and all the components associated with it? I only use it for personal use, email, Facebook, a few games, etc. and not for business. 10 was too confusing and there's no one over my shoulder teaching me a new system and where all my stuff went.

They download and do the install prompt, then restart. But upon restarting, it says the updates have failed and reappear in Windows Update. Tried the standard troubleshooter, and by resetting WU to no avail.
I am trying to install the .net 3.5 update for my Windows 10 Pro rig. I tried the usual way (enabling) with no luck: the system sits on searching for file and never goes anywhere. (I let it search overnight with no luck). I tried the method suggested HERE with no luck either (it sits there telling me the image version but never starts the "Enabling Features" process. I've let it sit there for 30 minutes with no success.
I am trying to do the second step via a Windows 10 USB install, not a DVD. I didn't bother trying to create an ISO since I didn't think that would matter. In either case, I feel really stuck. I am unable to run a few legacy games because of this stupid .net 3.5 issue. It's really frustrating.
I have Win10 pro and set to "notify to schedule restart" and "defer updates". Also have "give me updates for other MS products..." unchecked.However, Win10 just decided to reboot the computer and apply updates. What the heck is this? I had a major session of work going on.
