Apr 14, 2016I know there are some tools out there that will show the key but I really need to know the version of the OS in the UEFI BIOS.

View 9 RepliesI have been trying for a full week now, to no avail. Whenever I apply the update, it goes to the "Restarting" screen...and gets stuck there indefinitely. Even after a few hours, it's still on that screen. So ultimately I have to force shutdown my PC (after which I can use it as per normal). I also do not believe I have any malware on my PC (have scanned multiple times with Kaspersky just to be sure). I had updated to Windows 8 > 8.1 > 10 on this same PC before and never faced a single issue. I also never mess around much with default system settings.
View 4 RepliesAt one time, I had Windows 2013 on my desktop computer. At some point I upgraded to Office 2016 and uninstalled Office 2013. However, every day for weeks now, Windows Update has tried (unsuccessfully) to install the following:
Security Update for Microsoft Office 2013 (KB2956151) 64-Bit Edition
Update for Microsoft Lync 2013 (KB2956174) 64-Bit Edition
Update for Microsoft Office 2013 (KB2899522) 64-Bit Edition
Update for Microsoft Office 2013 (KB2881001) 64-Bit Edition
Security Update for Microsoft Lync 2013 (KB2881013) 64-Bit Edition
Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Office 2013 (KB2850036) 64-Bit Edition
I don't know if other updates are being blocked because these can't be installed. Plus, there appears no way to tell Windows Update NOT to try to install these again, as previous versions of Windows had.
Is there a way to find out which key was used for activation?
I have done testing with insider programs. I also tested this with my windows 7 oem install, I rolled the oem back to windows 7. I also used a windows 7 retail version to also upgrade to windows 10. This way I can keep my multiple boot setup. I just want to be legit that is all.
I have minimal data per month, how do I find out how large the windows updates are? I have had windows 10 for four months and have run out of data allowance in three of those months, now I have another update about to happen and I cannot turn it off and I do need to turn off my laptop.

As I have multiple retail license keys, I am unsure which one is in use right now.
There are 3rd party key finders that may show the key in use, but I prefer to obtain the key using Windows own tools, if possible. For instance using a CMD.(Am uncertain about these 'key finders': can they be trusted?)
Why the search doesn't find 'windows update' / 'check for updates' ? Other searches work , but this isn't , on my other pc's "check for updates" works . Posted pics with working 'add or remove' too .
View 3 RepliesSo, recently (after the November build release) I woke the next morning to find that my computer underwent a rather major update. After which, it seemed, my home network was thrown out of wack. I immediately rolled/reverted/recovered to previous build. But now everything is out of wack. Most of the time I have to restart my computer just so it'll communicate with my printer to start printing.
And restarting the computer is twice as long if it restarts at all. Most of the time It gets stuck in the "restart" progress animates (the rotating circles) and I have to press the restart button on the computer tower, with great regret and dread. Transferring files from one windows 10 device to another is a 50/50 hit or miss. I'm not literate when it comes to networking and was super happy how everything was.
But now, not only is my wifi home network out of wack, but my computer itself is wonky. I figure I might as well reinstall the newest build in hopes that it'll at least fix a fe of the problems. But anytime I check for updates, the newest build no longer shows up.
Windows 10 can't find my USB hub (F4U017). Device manager shows driver SXUPTP.SYS has a problem and has blocked it. I can't find an upgrade.
View 3 RepliesI had windows 8.1 and already upgraded for free to windows 10 home. Now I want to do a clean install of windows 10 with a usb drive and their create media installer program. What I want to know is if I can possibly use the windows 10 home N version? I like the idea of not having the stuff I may not use if I go for 3rd party software for videos and the like. Will it work or will it not let me since I didn't have an "N" version of my windows 8.1?
View 1 RepliesI recently used a Windows 10 ISO image tool to store Windows 10 on a USB for later use. Then I found out that I had to buy a Windows 10 license for it to work and I bought one... an OEM version. This isn't a huge issue as I can buy an optical drive for 20 bucks and put it inside of the PC that I will work on but then if the OEM product key will work with the Windows that I have stored on the flash drive that would be great as I don't have to spend 20 dollars on an optical drive that I will never use since I download most (if not all) of my media online. Long story short I would like to use an OEM product key on a flash drive that has Windows 10 on it.

Just upgraded to Windows 10, and it only took 10 min! After looking at the features I saw cortana was disabled due to policy, but fixed that with language changes. After that I expected it to work, but no. It says "Cortana is not available for this version of Windows", yet my control panel says I have a 64bit Windows 10 Pro Operating system.
View 1 RepliesWhen I installed windows 10, something went wrong and I could no longer could connect to the internet because some protocols were missing. Also, within five minutes of starting using my computer, the start menu stopped working. I have tried all the fixes I could find for the start menu including sfc /scannow and multiple powershell fixes. None of them worked. When I use the windows 8.1 install disk it, I get a message saying that something happened, setup has failed to determine supported install choices. Windows 10 is difficult to navigate and always seems to be missing some software.
View 2 RepliesI was installing W10 and got that black screen with the big white circle. Then, once it restarted. When it booted again, suddenly a screen came up saying "Attempting to Recover Installation" then saying "Restoring your previous version of Windows....". Why does this happen? Is there any way I can change where it boots into?
View 1 RepliesI have a Windows 8.1 PC with UEFI BIOS. I am going to upgrade this Windows with Windows 10. I downloaded the ISO because recently I formatted this PC so inorder to get the free upgrade is a long way! Unfortunately, the ISO I downloaded is an All-In-One type and is about 4.8GB, So for the UEFI to boot the flash drive, it needs to be FAT-32 but since the install.wim is more than 4GB, that won't work. So instead of downloading another x64 bit ISO which would take about a day in our area. I need to know if I can extract a single version i.e. Windows 10 Single Language x64 from the All-in-One ISO?
View 9 RepliesMy sons computer has a legit copy of windows home but for some reason the installed version was 32 bit, I noticed later that the machine was x64 bit processor.
I installed windows ten prior to noticing the version, I would like to change it to x64 bit, I read a few threads on converting, I downloaded the x64 ISO and burnt it to a DVD.
I am not concerned about wiping the drive clean everything needed has been removed and copied.
I read about skipping the key as it is being installed and that a key would be issued by Microsoft based on the hardware of the machine.
I am curious, would the key for the original 32 bit installation be the one that would be inserted in the x64 bit install or would a different key be issued?
When upgrading to Windows 10, I clicked to download the 64-bit version however when I finished installing it was a 32-bit version.

View 9 RepliesI want to download an ISO for my friends computer. But all he is eligible for is Windows 10 home edition. Will the ISO that I download on my Windows 10 Pro work for his?
View 2 RepliesJust loaded up Windows 10 today and noticed the version of my copy is painted on the desktop. I looked in to how to "unpaint" the build version from my desktop but the reg fixes that were used in the insider edition to show/hide the version aren't doing anything (Hkey Current User - Control Panel - Desktop - PainDesktopVersion).
Its obviously not doing anything bad, its just annoying to see random text in the corner of my screen.
Windows 10 version is Educational.
If I buy a OEM key from a store, can I go to the enter product key section of the settings and use that key? I think I heard somewhere that OEM keys can only be used when you're installing windows, not on an already installed windows.
View 1 Repliesi bought my laptop 2 years ago, and it was running windows 8, i had a lot of trouble with it and decided to downgrade it to windows 7, i pirated a windows 7 ultimate edition and my computer worked ever since, now i want to upgrade to windows 10, i have the icon, i reserved my copy, but it has been downloading for more than a week, and when i click view download progress, the get windows 10 app just shuts down. is there any way for me to get a free upgrade (using the windows 8 key that came with my laptop) to windows 10?
View 5 RepliesI have both Excel 2000 and Excel 2013 on my Windows 10 machine for reasons that don't need enumeration here. I am working with a program now that will export/import to Excel, but it looks like it might work only with Excel 2013.
However, when I do the export from the program it always exports to 2000. There is not an options or preferences within the program to choose which version of Excel to direct the export.
Is there some way in Windows 10 short of uninstalling Excel 2000 to make 2013 the default choice?
I have a new HP Envy 17t with Windows 10 64 bit. I have been installing various bits of software that I need to have. However, with some applications I get a strange error pop up, first a window telling me that the application is from an unknown source then, when I click OK, to continue, another window pops up, this one:
This has happened twice in the last 24 hours. Once when I tried to install a windows application so that I can root my Lenovo android tablet and then again when I wanted to install a media converter app.
I have the latest versions of both applications, I made sure they both were made for Windows 10 64 bit, but Windows 10 won't install them.
I currently encountering a problem restoring files from the shadow volume. I do not see any version history when I click the previous version history tab. Using a third party tool like shadowexplorer I am able to see the previous versions. Exporting the files out from the shadow volume also is incomplete with file errors. Any way for me to restore fully some files from the shadow copies ?
View 3 RepliesI keep reading that the release version of W10 will update any W7 or W8 installation.
What happens with a Preview version? I am running it only now, and just wonder how that update will work. Do I have to go back to W8.1?
