Shortly after the "Get Windows 10" icon appeared in the system tray of my Win 8.1 installation, I made the mistake of clicking on the "Get Windows 10" icon and "reserved" my copy of Windows 10. After some research, I elected to cancel my reservation for Windows 10 and did so by again clicking the "Get Windows 10" icon and going through the process to "cancel" my reservation. (I subsequently read Brink's fine post on "Get Windows 10 Icon -Remove from Taskbar in Windows 7 and 8.1" and did option four to uninstall the KB3035583 update). Now when I go to windows update and "search for updates", the search result is "install windows 10" though it does allow me to view "all available updates" which includes numerous "important" security updates as well as a few "optional" updates, one of which is Windows 10. I select the "important" updates, deselect the optional updates (including windows 10), and click install then get a dialog that "Windows 10 setup files are being downloaded" and an option to "cancel" (which I do). How do I stop Windows Update from downloading Windows 10 setup files and just download the "important updates" to secure my present installation of Win 8.1?

Not sure what the deal is, but Win10 keeps automatically downloading NVIDIA graphics drivers and software, even though I don't have any NVIDIA hardware. The proper Microsoft graphics drivers are installed.
I did google this and tried to "hide" these updates via some Powershell commands, but everytime I delete the NVIDIA drivers, windows just redownloads them.

I am in the process of downloading with the choice 'for another computer' and using a USB flash. At the last minute I put a label (Win10-1511)on that flash drive which did show up as the drive of choice.
The actual download files are landing in the root of C: on this desktop other than going directly to the 32GB usb drive plugged into a usb2 port. Is this the normal routine? If it is not routine can these files be moved from C: to the USB drive and be usable?
The reason I chose this type of download is that my internet connection to a local tower was intermittent yesterday and the connection stopped while downloading to a laptop through Windows Update at the 98% point. That was an all day download aborted. The process had to be started all over again at 7p.m. The update completed at 3.30 A.M......successfully.

I have the Get Windows 10 App but I couldn't wait for it as I have limited internet access. I downloaded the 64-bit Media Creation Tool after selecting the option to download for this computer and when I ran it the first time, it started downloading the Windows 10 setup file. I lost connection about 19% in, download started back up and I left it overnight. Didn't see how it finished but I couldn't find a new file on my computer for Windows 10 Setup. All I had was the MCTool file still. So I ran it again and got a pop up saying 'Setup couldn't start properly. Please reboot and try running Windows 10 Setup again.' I restarted my comp and it didn't work. I've tried deleting the MCTool and re-downloading it. I get the same thing. I'm not sure how to get it to work again.

I think the "updates freezing" issue has come up in another thread but I can't find it momentarily.
The screen shots show what I've been looking at for two days now. Obviously something is amiss with Automatic Update but I dunno what, or what to do about it.

Previously on W7 & W8 the updates categorized into 2 column (Important & Optional) where we can select the updates individually and download/install. This way I can get some optional drivers for memory card, printers & etc.
I couldn't find this option in W10. I choose to ignore it but my antivirus keep notifying me that optional downloads are available. I did click the "Run System Updates" but it navigates to System > Update & Security > Message and shows "System is up to date".
Sometimes it only updates the critical updates. The rest (Recommended & Optional) ignored/not notified on windows updates.

I installed my Windows 10 and everything was going smoothly. It has installed 2 updates from the day I've installed it and everything was ok. Recently updates KB3081448 and KB3081449 came out but it doesn't want to download them. Instead it gives me error 0x800703f1. My drivers are up to date and my PC is clean from viruses. I also tried installing them manually. It failed after step 2 of the installation...

Windows Update has been stuck at 0% every time I've tried in the last couple of days (see screenshot). These are the two updates available:
Security Update for Internet Explorer Flash Player for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3103688).
Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3105213).

I have a Surface Pro that will not download updates from Microsoft. When I check for updates they are found and show what they are but they will not download. The progress bar shows 0% and does not move.I have tried the download troubleshooter and it shows that it could not identify the problem.I use Edge for browser if that makes any difference. One of the downloads is a hardware download dated 7/28/2015..I checked my history and I have not installed any updated since 12/13/2015.

I've been having trouble with Windows Update recently:
* Three updates were stuck on downloading at 0%
* Rebooting the laptop resulted in it getting stuck at the "Getting things ready..." screen
The fix was actually pretty simple:
1. Reboot your computer
2. Open Explorer and navigate to C:WindowsSoftware Distribution
3. Open an elevated command prompt (Admin)
4. Run these two commands:
-net stop wuauserv
-net stop bits
5. Select all files in abovementioned folder and delete them
6. Make sure to empty the trash afterwards
7. Reboot and run Windows Update again
That way I was able to fix my Windows Update process that has been stuck for more than a week now. It immediately found many more updates to install, downloaded them and installed them just fine.

My store is playing up on the latest release. I have four pending updates, none of which will download, one of them is store itself, another is word mobile which is now not working and wont uninstall either. Any time I try to pause or cancel any of the downloads the app simply freezes and I have to close it and the same cycle repeats.

I've got 6 different app updates that seem to be stuck in the pending/downloading step in the app store. These are mostly updates to MS apps like Mail/Calendar, Solitaire, Camera, OneNote and Get Office plus a major update to VLC.
There's no error messages, just no progress downloading after several hours. This has probably been an issue for days now considering when these updates were officially announced.

Do windows OS allow downloading in background videos, files apps etc. in browser like UC etc. Do downloading gets going still if you move out of the app or close the app.
Like if you're downloading 1 Gig of movie on UC browser on android and still you move out of the app and minimize it the movie continues to download or even if you close the app the movie continues to download. Does Windows phone allow this?

Not sure if it's just me, but for some reason, since the Jan 12 patch Tuesday, I no longer see definition updates for Windows Defender on Windows Update's "View your update history" page.
I, for one, am happy about this change, since those "Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB2267602" were clogging up the update history page.

I've been trying lately to update my Window 10 Laptop (previously Windows 7) to the latest build through WMCT (Windows Media Creation Tool), but I failed three times,
I downloaded the WMCT from Microsoft website. For the first two times I ran it, it failed through the updating windows phase (copying data, installing drivers and features, and a third one).
I tried deleting the content in Window/SoftwareDistribution/Download, and re-running, but also failed at the beginning of "Installing Drivers & Features". I am able to download everything and "preparing to install" normally, but it is just at that phase where I get a message saying "We are restoring the previous version of Windows".
Here is a snap of the error I just got after successfully "restoring to the previous version of Windows".

I recently have been trying to download the windows 10 ISO with their media creation tool but when ever I start the download it just sits at 0% and spins. I have exhausted everything that I can think of for why it won't be working.
I have redownloaded the media creation tool. I have more than enough bandwidth. I have turned off my firewall and antivirus. Run the media creation tool as admin. Nothing
