Updates :: Windows Genuineness Icon Has Disappeared
Aug 17, 2015
After I did a free upgrade from 7 to 10 on visiting Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsSystem I used to see Under Windows activation at the bottom not only that Windows is activated but also an Icon confirming that the Windows was genuine.
Now for some mysterious reason the genuineness Icon has disappeared. I wonder why this has happened.
After a driver (I think one related to Intel graphics, but i am not shure) was unsuccesfully installed, I had a BSOD problem, hard restart, kernel error message (unable to reproduce it afterward). Some applications from taskbar partially work (Office, Skype), some not. I am unable to open the Start menu (but the right click still works). The Edge disapeared, I post from anothe PC. Restarted a few times, tried to restore to a previous backup of drivers - nothing works.
Recently my PC just started to have some weird problem. Everytime after I restarted my PC or just restarted explorer.exe, my desktop icon reset from small size to medium and sorting order also reset. Besides I also noticed that in every folder view settings also reset.
The reason why I suspected it caused by one of the updates because I just formatted my PC. Everything was normal in the beginning but after I updated the windows. The exact problem came back.
I have a weird problem, I downloaded the Windows 10 ISO using the Media Creation Tool and now for some reason, the Get Windows 10 icon in the taskbar disappeared so I'm not able to get any alerts when it's ready to install.
a few weeks ago the windows 10 update icon appeared in my task bar so i clicked it and reserved my update, then a few weeks later my pc got a virus and had to be restored to factory settings, i checked for updates and did them all but now the icon isnt there anymore.
All the app icons have disappeared from my desktop, as well as task bar and file Explorer. Where the icon should be is just a blank (but clickable) space.
I tried to manually alter the app icon by right clicking and going into properties, but no properties will open!
I upgraded to Windows 10 recently, and I've noticed something strange happening. When I boot up my computer, the desktop looks fine, but after a while, the little arrow overlays at the bottom left corner of the shortcut icons disappear. Sometimes, if left long enough, the overlay will be some weird picture (Instead of an arrow, it will be a batman picture, like from the shortcut to my Batman: Arkham Asylum games, or something else.) When I right-click on the desktop and hit refresh, it reverts back to normal, but I still want to know why it is doing this. My previous OS was Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. [Code]
After I updated to the latest Windows 10 "upgrade" (Build 1511, 10586) released yesterday thru Windows Update, my system shows only the Wi-Fi icon on Taskbar instead of the Ethernet Network icon which it used to display earlier. I have a wired broadband connection, and keep my Wi-Fi Adapter settings "Disabled". Yet, the icon shows the Aeroplane mode of Wi-Fi icon on Taskbar, instead of the Network icon it used to display before this update. At times my wired BB connection tends to become unstable, so I need to keep track if the connection is down, before I do some critical activity on Internet, like large download (which I may be unable to Resume), or Netbanking or online shopping, etc. How do I get the Network icon instead of the Wi-Fi icon on the Taskbar in the new Build 1511 ?
I'm on Win 10 (build 10240). I hadn't been getting updates for a while so did some troubleshooting and started to receive the updates yesterday, including the major November update 1511
But the upgrade didn't complete. It went to the booting black screen with a circle and number in the middle and progressed up to a certain point but then rolled back the changes. This happened twice and now when I check for updates, it says device is up to date and won't even show the 1511 update.
I'd like to have the Microsoft Edge Icon on the taskbar again as the only way to access it at the moment is using the search field at the far left of the taskbar running along the bottom of the screen and for some reason this doesn't respect the settings I have. In particular, it searches using Bing rather than Google (in the settings I have specified that it should use Google).
my "Get Windows X" notification has disappeared, yet I haven't received an email with my free Windows 10 copy, even though I applied for it and my hardware meets the requirements(running Windows 7 Professional at the moment). Is this an issue or is MS simply issuing the free copies at their own pace and not to all users at once? The taskbar options panel says that GWX(get windows 10) app is set to be visible at all time but is inactive.
I want to update to windows 10, and i reserved my update with the app "get windows 10" a few weeks ago, but since the 29 of july, it appears that when i go in windows update, the reservation has disappeared, altough in the app it still visibile, but as you can see the last update of the app, was on the 29 of july. Aniway, i don't want to force my updating to windows 10, but i want to receive it automatically just when it is ready, but i hope that this problem won't let me update. What could i do to get the update automatically even if in windows update, there is no more the reservation? Can i fix it? It seems like the app is stuck ( get windows 10 app).
Not sure if it's just me, but for some reason, since the Jan 12 patch Tuesday, I no longer see definition updates for Windows Defender on Windows Update's "View your update history" page.
I, for one, am happy about this change, since those "Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB2267602" were clogging up the update history page.
Does windows 10 disk cleanup remove windows updates? I updated windows 10 , i reboot and i run disk cleanup as administrator but in the list there is no entry about windows updates....
I cant seem to run MS Windows and Office auto updates (or manual).
keep getting the following message
'Updates are available, but we temporarily need 489.48 MB-489.48 MB of space to download. Remove some things you don't need right now and we'll try again.'
There is currently 10.6GB of free space on the system partition.
I have just (on Friday 20 Feb 2016) installed the Windows 10 upgrade from the MS site.
Took 6/7 attempts to finally get it done.
HDMI driver not working
Audio not working properly (keeps saying USB Audio playback default) I don't have anything plugged in. I have a realtek HD Audio installed.
Wifi is very flaky.....keeps disconnecting or reporting limited connection intermittently......15/20 times a day.
Running virgin Superhub, with 150mb pipe,
everything was working perfectly prior to the Upgrade from windows 7 sp1 to Windows 10.
I have my settings on to receive windows updates automatically. In the past three weeks I keep seeing that in the history all updates have failed to either download or install.
I am running windows 10 pro and now i want to update my system using "Windows Updates". The problem is that Windows Update is showing numerous new updates for the system but i have a mobile broadband (ie. usb dongle type) for internet purposes over which i want to download all the system updates. but the updates wont download maybe because Windows 10 has set this connection type as 'metered'.
Whats even worse is that the metered and non-metered choice is grayed out and i cannot change it. I then tried the command prompt method described on this site. it momentarily does change the mobile broadband connection as 'Unrestricted' but STILL windows wont download any updates over this connection .
I want to know HOW to download updates through Windows Update application using my mobile broadband connection.
editing the relevant registry entries to force Windows use mobile broadband for Windows Updates?
PS: I don't have ANY other source of internet ie. Wifi or Ethernet.
How can I turn off windows updates? The new windows update settings page is extremely basic and appears to lack many options from windows 7. I am concerned about updates downloading and update checks being performed whilst gaming. I would not be happy with bandwidth or system resources being used up during my play sessions as performance may be impacted. Is there any way to either disable the updates or to ensure update checks and downloads are only performed at specific times?
I freely admit that, in the greater scheme of crashes, re-installs and general weirdness that has been my Win10 experience to date, this is a very tiny thing. But it's annoying me. I'm using CSR bluetooth stack 2.1.63. First time I installed it, it worked perfectly. Now I'm on a more successful rebuild, I cannot get the correct Bluetooth icon in the task bubble! It's always grayed out (and even this was a challenge; I had no icon until I re-did the driver installation twice.)
It struck me that it might not be too hard to either change Windows' path to the icon or replace the grey one with blue. If only I knew where to look. What do you think?
