Upgrade Crashed - Laptop Will Not Reboot To Any OS
Aug 9, 2015
I elected to postpone the Win 10 upgrade for two days to allow me to save an image before installing the new OS. However, when the process requested a restart, I naively went ahead and to my horror, the Win 10 install was underway
As all too often in these situations, the install on my Dell Laptop (Win 7, Home Premium), stalled at 44%.
Hitting the reboot key had the install attempt to reinstate the original OS. This failed.
I'm presently in the situation where a reboot asks for the Win 10 installation disk, to enable a reinstall (I presume). Obviously I do not have an installation disk.
Not to be deterred, I attempted to reinstall a relatively recent Win 7 image using my Dell software recovery disks. Things seemed to proceed in an orderly fashion until at a point I received a blue screen of death a consequence of the disk software saving my computer from terminal damage (as if I wasn't terminally damaged anyway) .
Now, as we all know, at any given time there is incremental data on our disk that will be lost in any format, even in the event of a successful past image recovery.
I guess the question is this: If I were able to access a Win 10 installation disk, and use it, what is the likelihood of this screwed installation recovering itself in such fashion that I end up with a Win 10 OS and my data intact?

I encountered this issue recently, and it's caused me a fair bit of frustration. I keep searching for solutions but it seems nobody has any. What I can do to restore Windows 7 (preferably with my files intact) or at the very least finish the upgrade to Windows 10?

Windows kept asking me for the password upon startup and would not recognize the password I input each time. So I would have to reset it. I went to the forum and read how to shut the password feature off by holding the windows key + r , typing the letters provided and unchecking the box. The system then asked me to restart. My laptop will not restart - blue/black screen appears and nothing else.

I managed to get an upgrade to Windows 10 Pro on my Windows 7 machine, with it waiting to install. I did not wish to do this! I additionally managed to get it to not install and my updates no longer show it as available. I did also manage to get an ISO for later use. I wish to delete the crashed install and it's files, such as the $Windows~* stuff shown below ....

My laptop suddenly crashed and now it says "Boot media missing" when I restarted. After that, it always takes me to "Preparing Automatic Repair" and then the 'Troubleshoot' menu.
In the 'Troubleshoot' menu, it has two options: 'Reset this PC' and 'Advanced options'.
When I choose "Reset this PC", it asks me whether to keep my files or remove everything. I've tried both and it displays an error. When I choose to keep my files, it says that drive is locked and tells me to unlock the drive and try again. When I choose to remove everything, it says that there is a problem resetting the PC.
And then I've moved to "Advanced options". The options are: System Restore, System Image Recovery, Startup Repair, Command Prompt, UEFI Firmware Settings, and Go back to previous build. I've tried all of these and it all returned an error. When I chose UEFI Settings, it restarted to BIOS/UEFI setting. And my BIOS/UEFI can't detect my hard drive. DISKPART from Command Prompt can't detect it either.
My project is due in 3 days and I've got all my files in there. Is there a way to fix this? Or to recover my files?

Laptop does not wake up from sleep when either power button, keyboard buttons or mouse touchpad are pressed. A forced reboot is always required. HDD light off, monitor stays black and battery light and fan still on.
Have had this problem for over a week since downloading and using Advanced SystemCare and Driver Booster. Once the problem occured I uninstalled them but nothing changed. Also there was a few recent windows updates at beginning of March but haven't read anywhere that they are causing similar problems. Have tried the obvious fixes but nothing seems to work.

Asus X555LA
Windows 10 Home
Intel® HD Graphics Family
BIOS version date 14/08/14

I'm using HP 15-n061sr with Windows 10 SL and SSD Plextor PX-128M6Pro.
Right after the upgrade from Windows 8.1, I started to experience SMART error on reboot, and only on reboot. I mean that if I just turn the laptop off and on it doesn't happen. It says that SMART detected a possible imminent failure of my disk. If I press "Continue startup", it says something like "insert boot device" or that it can't detect an operating system. Then I can go to BIOS options and restart from there - it boots up flawlessly. This happens every time I reboot. I upgraded 2 days ago. I have the latest SSD drivers. I used Windows' disk optimization tool. SSDLife Pro says disk health is fine.
P.S. I once had imminent failure problem with my previous SSD, but it happened once and it never started again; I got the refund under warranty.

Lenovo ThinkCentre, 32bit was running fine on Windows 7 Home. The upgrade to Win 10 downloaded fine and started installing until the final bit Settings etc when there was a brief error "KMODE EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED" without any further info. No codes, numbers or anything else. Installation continued until 97% and then started rebooting in a loop for several hours already.
I'd prefer to finish the installation properly, but otherwise would like to roll back to Win 7 and have a usable machine with all data and programs intact.

I have an HP laptop. I upgraded from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro.When I click the Shut Down, it looks like it will, but loops back on back to my Desktop. So then I just hold down the power button to shut down. I always try to click the Shut Down first.I haven't had any start up problems, but I'd like to be able to shut down properly.

I upgraded from Win8.1 to Win10 on my Lenovo Laptop and every thing was fine .Then i went and installed the Nvidia driver for my graphics card and restarted .On doing the restart i was getting a blank black screen. So then i went into safe mode and installed the Intel graphics drivers that came with my laptop and restarted .
On doing the restart I am always going into recovery mode now . Even if i try to boot in safe mode it goes into recovery mode. I tried even to do the windows repair via the recovery mode but it does not work. The only thing that i have is the command prompt in recovery mode .Can I install the latest driver via command prompt in recovery mode ? or how should i fix this issue ?

I convinced my friend to upgrade to windows 10 on his laptop and it failed leaving it screwed.
The laptop is based on a Clevo W350ET chassis.
When you turn it on it goes to a screen saying 'Recovery Your PC/Device needs to be repaired, A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed, Error code 0xc000000f'.
Any options like revert to a previous built, system restore or whatever do not work.
Any chance of saving the current install or will I have to reinstall everything? My friend has old programs he is concerned he cannot get anymore.

After the Windows 10 upgrade my laptop cant shutdown fully. When i try to turn off my PC, everything goes well at the beginning, almost everything goes off. The things that remain on looks like to be only the fans and the LED of the power button. I dont know what to do.

Whenever I hit restart or attempt to shutdown my system, it proceeds to show me the blue "Restarting" or "Shutting down" screen with the white dots going round in a circle and NEVER shuts down.
I have no problems letting the system sleep or hibernate but restarting or shutting down doesn't work. I have to resort to long pressing the power button.

I upgraded my laptop from windows 7 to windows 10 with the free upgrade that came out a while back. I recently bought an Ethernet cord to enhance my gaming performance, but when I plug it in it says identifying for a little while then says unidentified network no Internet. My friend came over and tried it on his laptop and it worked for his Windows 8.1 . I have a Comcast router/modem combo and have it hooked to a western digital router which is what the Ethernet cord is run from.

I have a lenovo e425 laptop that recently received the windows 10 upgrade from microsoft. I am currently running windows 8.1 Pro and when i started the upgrade to windows 10, every time it reaches the 30% part where it finishes the copying files part, and it restarts, my computer shuts down completely like *poof*...
When I put my computer back on, and it says attempting to recover installation, it shuts down AGAIN like *poof* Then when I restart it again, it just goes back to "restoring previous windows" and it restarts then my computer shuts off again like *poof* Then when i put it back on, it comes on normally, and says failed to install windows 10.

Why I cannot run the windows upgrade setup from my USB (G:setup.exe). It is always showing me this error "Use the other installation disc that says 64-bit. When you insert it, Windows Setup will restart automatically."
I also heard that for many people it worked when they run windows setup from "G:sourcessetup.exe" (G: is my USB drive). But when i am trying to open the file it shows Shows setup screen for a few seconds then pops an error "This 32-bit version of Windows cannot be installed to an EFI-based computer. Installation cannot proceed. Use a 64-bit version of Windows to install to an EFI-based computer."
I am trying to run this setup on my HP laptop (Preinstalled: Windows 8 Single Language 64bit) via bootable USB of Windows 10 Home Single Language. I download the Windows10.iso image file via MediaCreationToolx64.exe and created a Media USB disk to install the operating system on the same laptop.
Bootable USB is running setup if i boot my laptop with USB disk. But it will force me to install a fresh Windows 10, which i don't want to. I want to upgrade my current Windows 8.x.
I am sure that i've downloaded correct 64bit version of Windows even i have Windows 10 AIO 32bit/64bit ISO image. Same errors showing in this ISO image too. If i run the "G:sourcessetup.exe" in my PC (which is running Windows 8 64bit) then it runs the process without showing me any error. Why it is happening with laptops only? I also tried to run setup from same USB in my another Lenovo Laptop (which is currently running Windows 8.1 Single language 64bit) but no luck it shows the same both errors.

After updating to Windows 10 Pro recently I get a lot of BSOD's (DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION). Mostly when my laptop wakes up from a well deserved moment of sleep. Also I noticed that sometimes the laptop awakens from sleep when I didn't ask it to wake up.
Culprit (driver probably). Here's the dump file I collected XPS-vr_21-08-2015_120314,69.zip

I have an H/P Pavilion g6 lap top. Tried to upgrade to Window 10 twice today. It seems to down load fine, and starts the install phase, when it gets to the black screen where it say it will restart many times, it starts copying files. It gets to 85/87% it shuts the power off to the computer. When you push the power button, it starts up, saying it is restoring previous version of Windows (8.1). Gives a dialog block with Red Shield and an (X) saying some updates were not installed, Error found C1900101-2004...
