I've decided to upgrade my Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 10 with the free upgrade. Unfortunately, it has been stuck "Checking for Updates" for the last 30-45 minutes. Is this normal? I've updated two laptops, one Windows 7 Home and one Windows 8 and it didn't take nearly this long. I'm afraid I'm stuck in some kind of loop.
View 4 RepliesWin 10 machine. Got it yesterday, it was checking for updates fine last night. In this evening and I thought I'd do a manual check but it's been running as checking for updates about 15 mins now. Is this normal. There is no way to cancel the check and kick it back off acain
View 5 RepliesPreviously I had an update which windows kept on updating and undoing the update for some reason. After which i tried to find for a solution online and somehow deleted the entire of the Software Distribution folder located in the C:Windows folder.
Right now my windows update is unable to find any updates at all as it is forever on the "Checking for updates" section. I've tried using the command prompt to scan the SFC ("sfc /scannow") and also the re-creation of the SystemDistribution folder through stopping the service, deleting it and then starting it again... but it's still the same.
I just upgraded my win 10 10240 to 1511 10565 but where is a listing of activation commands.
View 4 RepliesI am currently using windows 7 64-bit.
I downloaded windows 10 from the ms site (the automatic icon never appeared on my pc), and am using the media creation tool.
All goes fine until 'Getting Updates', when it hangs on 'checking for updates'.
I have tried playing with the settings in Windows update, but suspect the problem lies in there somewhere... my windows 7 was recently proving unable to install all its updates also. I've tried various solutions for that but no luck.
Is a clean install the answer?
Ever since the last updates installed way over a month ago, Windows never finds updates.. just checks and checks and checks. No errors, no messages, no progress... Kept on for hours....
View 3 RepliesI am trying to install the .net 3.5 update for my Windows 10 Pro rig. I tried the usual way (enabling) with no luck: the system sits on searching for file and never goes anywhere. (I let it search overnight with no luck). I tried the method suggested HERE with no luck either (it sits there telling me the image version but never starts the "Enabling Features" process. I've let it sit there for 30 minutes with no success.
I am trying to do the second step via a Windows 10 USB install, not a DVD. I didn't bother trying to create an ISO since I didn't think that would matter. In either case, I feel really stuck. I am unable to run a few legacy games because of this stupid .net 3.5 issue. It's really frustrating.
I think the "updates freezing" issue has come up in another thread but I can't find it momentarily.
The screen shots show what I've been looking at for two days now. Obviously something is amiss with Automatic Update but I dunno what, or what to do about it.
I have my settings on to receive windows updates automatically. In the past three weeks I keep seeing that in the history all updates have failed to either download or install.
View 2 RepliesWindows Update has been stuck at 0% every time I've tried in the last couple of days (see screenshot). These are the two updates available:
Security Update for Internet Explorer Flash Player for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3103688).
Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3105213).
windows update is stuck for months on 25%, is this problem known? or is there a way to reset it?
View 1 RepliesI got home from work this morning and cracked open this laptop to update it, and at about the same time I went to PC via RC and started the update as well. I let both download and went to take a nap, after waking up I checked laptop and it was still downloading at about 85%, then checked the PC and it had already updated, so went thru setup and looks fine.
I had some late lunch and watched the download going to browse web for a bit, came back and at 94%, closed up laptop had company, after they left reopen laptop and after a bit checked and still at 94%, that was two hours ago and still nothing, I even shut down and restart and doesn't move.
My windows update was working fine until recently it became stuck on 0% for a bunch of updates while downloading. I've tried many things to resolve this:
- Tried stopping and restarting the windows update service, but the service remains stuck on 'stopping' so I have to force kill it in cmd prompt then restart it
- Emptied the downloads folder in software distribution
- Ran the Windows Update troubleshooter tool, which says 'service registration is missing or corrupt'
I'm assuming my Windows Update service has become corrupt somehow, is there any way in which I can solve this?
so, my computer has been trying to download the november 11th update of windows 10 and I cant figure out why its staying stuck at 0%. How to force the update or why its staying stuck at 0%? anything I can do?
View 2 RepliesI've been having trouble with Windows Update recently:
* Three updates were stuck on downloading at 0%
* Rebooting the laptop resulted in it getting stuck at the "Getting things ready..." screen
The fix was actually pretty simple:
1. Reboot your computer
2. Open Explorer and navigate to C:WindowsSoftware Distribution
3. Open an elevated command prompt (Admin)
4. Run these two commands:
-net stop wuauserv
-net stop bits
5. Select all files in abovementioned folder and delete them
6. Make sure to empty the trash afterwards
7. Reboot and run Windows Update again
That way I was able to fix my Windows Update process that has been stuck for more than a week now. It immediately found many more updates to install, downloaded them and installed them just fine.
Windows Update stuck at 9%
View 9 RepliesI am having problems installing Windows 10 updates...... again.
This update is dated 29.10.2015 and consists of 2 updates.
KB 3105210 states "waiting for download" and KB 3106932 states "waiting for installation" It has been stuck on this for several hours and my attempts to use the repair tools have failed to resolve the problem.
I am upgrading from Windows 7 to a pc but it seems to be stuck looking for updates. should I start again? Well, I am starting over but was wondering if I could do something different to avoid the problem.
View 8 RepliesSo far no real issue's to report running Windows 10 I really love it but here is my issue. Windows update has been stuck at 45% for the last 3 hour's and usually my updates go pretty quick. I've tried rebooting my system to see if the updates will finish installing but then it goes right back to 45% and stay's there.
View 5 RepliesI'm not sure if it's a Surface 3 specific issues and the S3 has been one problem after another on Win 10 but my store downloads and Windows Update downloads just seem to get stuck and never complete. WU never gets off of "Waiting for download".
Every so a store update may start to download. It can take a good 4 to 8 hours, if at all, for all the updates to process. If a download does start it seems to run normally.
Checking my task manager shows the CPU and network are mostly sitting idle.
I've cleared out the SofrwareDistribution folder but it hasn't worked.
Installing Windows 10 directly on this pc from media creation tool. When it gets to 'searching for updates' it gets stuck a 0%.
View 8 RepliesI'm having a problem with the phone activation. I'm stuck at the security check dialogue, keeps saying "we cant verify you". Is it just me, or did MS kill phone activation?
View 1 Repliesthe update fails to proceed beyond 58% and this has been going on for the last 1 week. The update seems to be Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3124262). Is their a way to get past this, that is resume the download or just restart the whole thing from zero.
View 7 Repliesi uploaded windows 10 and it was doing fine for a day or two, then it started updates, stuck at 75% with the update circle continually turning. Only thing it will let me do is restart with ctrl alt del command. Other than that it's just a screen with the update circle.
View 4 RepliesI have been using win 10 for quite a long time and am happy with it. This evening when I was opening up a word document it behaved strangely . I could shut it down but after that everything stopped working. Ctrl alt delete wont respond. I had to shut down the computer using the Power button. When I restarted the computer . It immediately went into update mode screen with the usual configuring windows and warning about not shutting down the computer .The screen is orange with circulating dots. ( first time I see an orange screen , its usually blue) .At the beginning there was a short indication of % like about 35% but now only circulating dots . Nothing else works . Its already been running for 1/2 hour or so. I will leave it overnight to see whether I can get to the log in screen.
What to do if I cant get to the log in screen ? Without log in screen I cant get to system restore? Is there a way to boot into recovery mode? I do have a Macrium image and a Macrium recovery flash drive. Will windows recognize this thumb drive on boot or do I have to boot into Bios first to change order of boot .
Alternatively can make and use win 10 recovery flash drive from another window 10 machine?
