Upgraded From 8.1 Now Locked Out - Can't Type Password

Aug 1, 2015

I just installed the free upgrade (Windows 8.1 to Windows 10) on my laptop and can not enter the password.

My existing 8.1 account's password had an (german umlaut) character and now after Windows 10 (language english US) is installed I see no chance to type in my password. I'm stuck at the login screen...

I already tried the virtual keyboard and [Alt][0][2][4][6], but it doesn't work. What the heck!! How can I login?

Security :: Locked Out After Updating Login Password

Feb 21, 2016

I changed my log in password and now cannot login in to Windows 10. I'm positive that it is the correct password. Windows keeps telling me that the password is incorrect. I also tried the old one that was working fine with no luck. What gives? Can you not update your Windows password periodically? I need to figure out how to get in to my computer..

Accounts :: Locked Out And No Internet Access To Reset Password

Aug 2, 2015

I recently upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10. I didn't realize it was going to mess with my log in credentials just to get into my PC. Well, I'm locked out of my PC. I can't log on, it just tells me when I enter in the PIN and the Password that "Your device is offline, please enter old password." I do that and it rejects it.

I can't get internet access because I live on a college campus and the way they have it set up is you have to be logged into your computer before you can access the network.

I tried "resetting my PC" and chose the option to delete all the data but no idea if that will work yet.

I also tried reinstalling windows 7 from the CD, but I can't seem to get it to do that since I can't log in and get any kind of interface. I tried using the boot menu to boot from the CD (it's a retail version of windows 7.) but that doesn't work.

What do I do here? Is my computer bricked? This is ridiculous.

Can't Log Into Acer Laptop - Unable To Type In Password

Oct 29, 2015

I have an Acer Aspire V5-573G, recently upgraded to Windows 10 a few weeks ago. Was using my laptop this morning just fine but tonight when I turned it on, I get to the password log in and I can't type in my password.

I can still move the cursor around the screen and go back to the screen displaying the time/date before the password log in screen. I just can't type in my password! Nothing happens.

Also the little icons in the bottom right corner are dull, the clock symbol and the power symbol, although the wifi symbol is highlighted as it's connected. I've unplugged all external hard drives and even turned off my wifi.

How To Stop Dialog Box Making Type In Password For Administrator

Aug 8, 2015

It seems now that every time I run or delete an EXE file, the system makes me type in the password for the Administrator; especially as I typically do stuff in the dark, having to locate the keys for my password is a real pain. Now, I don't mind having that dialog box come up and making me simply click on the button (or hit Enter, etc.) In fact, if this is something that can prevent "drive-by" downloads or other nefarious stuff from happening, I want it (although I still mind typing in the password). In Windows 7, the system behaved in this latter way, and I'd like Windows 10 to behave in the same way.

Nov 12, 2015

Ok so i am furious with Micro$oft now! the other day i was FORCED to change my microsoft account after much nagging i did so and i dont like changing logins too much. (this was a week ago)

now for some random reason on earth without my permission my windows login also changed login passwords to the microsoft account. I DONT WANT THAT! that password is too long and complicated for someone who locks his computer every 5 minutes or so. why did this just kick in now? i changed M$ account pass over a week ago and today it decides to change windows login?! can i change JUST my local windows login separate from microsoft login?

if i try to change pass from settings it it goes online and says you cant use password that has been used before.

Accounts :: Password Text Box Flips Back To Pre-password Screen?

Feb 2, 2016

after an update at starting, tablet laptop start gives picture/clock screen, that slides to the password screen but when password block is touched on screen or mouse clicked the screen flips back to the picture/clock ... how to deal with this kind of lock out that the typing box won't open and loops to clock screen? have turned off for an hour to see if that does it..but if not...would restarting into a repair or recovery be possible fix...i have never been able to get into safe mode without being logged in but have gotten into recovery during a restart which made me wonder if entering a recovery during boot and reversing the upgrade was possible if all else fails...

Taskbar Seems To Be Locked

Feb 22, 2016

I am having some serious problems with my taskbar... it seems to be locked but i have checked it over and over and it isnt... i have seen hundreds of posts similar to this but no fixes that worked... i tried the powershell command... tried safe boot... tried to use an older image but that didn't work... either...

Also I got super scared when my prefered cleaning software (IObit uninstaller) said "power scan leftovers of Search" as if it had uninstalled my search bar... my pc is about 1.5 years old now and i can't find my windows installation disk anywhere... my brother has a windows 10 disc that came with his rig but i dont want to use it incase it locks him out saying his version is pirated... i am willing to buy a new OS disk if i need to but i MUST retain my files... i recently got able to live 9 and used the key so if i need to reinstall it I'm not sure if i will have to get a new one

NTFS Hibernation Locked Up?

Oct 13, 2015

I'm experiencing problems with Windows 10 trying to load. I'm unable to get past the login screen. It seems that Win is locked up on me and appears unresponsive. Trying to type my password at login screen, it just seems to sit there. After a few mins some characters appear in the password field with much delay. After all of this, I have attempted to load a live Linux distro to grab files/data off the drive to start backing up the OS and reinstall. When I went to do this, I get an error message in Linux "error mounting sdb1..... Windows is hibernated, refused to mount... Operation not permitted......" How do I get Windows 10 to load

Locked File Access

Feb 10, 2016

I recently decided to move my archived video and photo files, from a small (250GB) drive to a larger (500GB) drive as the smaller one is maxed out. However when I tried to move them, I got an error message "You need permission from 'Doug' to access this file" (or similar). In review of the source files, I see the majority of them have a padlock icon in front of them. I checked the parent file and I ('Doug') am the owner of the entire drive, all folders and all files, with total control and permissions over all of them. Yet I cannot move them, open them, rename them, or in any way utilize these archived files.

I did not ask for any encryption on the drive (which is also open for sharing with 'everyone') I have been using this drive since many previous OS setups, and other computers, since Vista, and never had problems accessing them before. I see in looking at the target drive, that all files that did not have the padlock, were moved to the new drive. I am thinking that these files may be encrypted with the old EFS(?) security, but not sure as I have never used it, at least not deliberately, but if I did it would have been under the same owner name, and passwords. I am hoping by this time in the tech evolution, that there is a workaround as some of these files are digitized 30-40 year old videos and photos, with no originals left, so I need to get these back. I am talking thousands of files!

Locked Out Of Admin Account - Can't Use PC At All

Nov 14, 2015

So the other day I noticed my only account on my laptop had lost administrator privileges. I looked up how to fix this and went about doing. I booted into "safe mode with command prompt" but that realized I didnt need that, just regular safe mode. I turned off my laptop, and turned it back on expecting a normal boot.

When it boots up, it goes straight to the windows login screen for "administrator". No matter how many times I hit ok it doesnt do anything or will start to load but eventually come back with, "account has been disabled. Please see system administrator". As of right now, that's all I can do with my laptop, so its pretty much useless to me. Is there a way to boot into safe mode using the power button or holding an F# key?

Drive Locked When Trying To Boot?

Oct 31, 2015

I was trying to boot from the Installation Media with the intent to restore using a system image disk. I have mounted the disk previously and determined that it in fact has the image intact. However it is not recognized. So, I tried to install Windows 10 Home with the Installation Media but there is no partition there and the error says "the drive is locked". I am now typing this on the same pc so obviously there is no problem with the drive.

Random Log In Screen When PC Is Locked

Oct 21, 2015

I noticed within the past week that, when my PC is locked and the lock screen is showing, it will randomly look like it's trying to log in without any action on my part. The lock screen will go up and then the loading circle will appear for a few seconds. Then, the screen goes black and it returns to the lock screen image. I have no problems logging in or out, but it's just kind of annoying and buggy. This is on both my laptop and my desktop.

Performance :: CPU Speed Locked - Usage Never Goes Above 47%

Aug 4, 2015

This started back when I was running Windows 8.1, so it isnt new to the Windows 10 installation. Every now and then my laptop will get really slow. When I look at the task manager, I will see that CPU usage never goes above 47% and it seems like it is speed locked to 1.19 Ghz.

Dell Latitude E4310
Core i5 540M @ 2.53 Ghz, Turbo to 3.06 Ghz
8GB RAM
180 GB Intel 330 Series SSD
Windows 10 Professional

Those are the specs. This happens even right after a clean install with absolutely nothing else on it except for what comes with Windows. Ive looked into the BIOS to make sure those settings are valid and Ive looked into the power options under windows to make sure something isn't weird there.

Accounts :: Locked Out Of Administrator Account

Dec 26, 2015

I am currently on a different computer than the one where I am locked out of the Administrator account.

Less than 3 weeks ago, I bought a new laptop that came with Windows 10 installed. When I finally set up the new laptop and tried out Windows 10 for the first time, I was annoyed at the whole thing with Windows blocking some programs from being installed and a lot of other annoying prompts. This is when I found out about a higher level of Administrator access known as a Super Administrator to avoid most of these prompts, and install programs without being blocked by Windows. So what I did created a new user account with the Command Prompt and gave it Super Administrator access without setting a password. Once I logged into my new user account, I deleted all of the other user accounts on my computer, since I had no need for the other user accounts (such as the Guest account).

The real trouble happened when my computer crashed and experienced a BSOD. After the computer rebooted from the BSOD, I found out that I could not log into the Administrator account because it prompts for a password, but I never set up a password for the account. Inputting no password does not work. I am not sure how a password was set up on the Administrator account without my knowledge and whether this might have been related to my BSOD crash.

I have made an attempt to get back into my only user account, but nothing has worked so far. All of the built-in Windows diagnostic tools have failed to work, since they all require that I log into the Administrator account, which I am unable to do. My original plan was to use the option to reset my PC that lets me keep my files, but that won't work without having access to the Administrator account. What password is on my Administrator account considering that I never set up a password and somehow the account now has a password on it. How to get back into my Administrator account?

Session Gets Locked After Few Minutes Of Inactivity

Jan 4, 2016

I've disabled the screensaver and the auto sleep mode yet when I don't touch my computer for a few minutes it'll go into lock screen and ask me for my code to log back in. I've even set the "Don't show lockscreen" entry to active (in the sort of registry).

How can I get rid of this feature ? I don't want anything to show up when I leave my computer for a few minutes, I want nothing to move.
