So I have an old PC with a Windows 10 installation. I upgraded to Windows 10 from a Windows 8 Retail which I still have key and dvd-rom for.I am thinking that I format the old PC and use my old Windows 8 DVD to install on the new PC and then upgrade that one to Windows 10. Or could I even create a USB stick with the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool, install that one on my new PC and activate it using my Windows 8 Key?
View 1 Replieshow to reactivate my copy of Windows 10 if I make hardware upgrades that would make me need to format my hard drive (Motherboard, CPU, etc.). In other words say if I need a new motherboard down the road and once it is installed and I cannot boot into windows, how would I get my copy of windows 10 back after I format all the old drivers and such off and reinstall windows? Would I have to then buy a whole new copy? The only thing I could think of would install my version of windows 7, activate it, then upgrade back up to 10.
View 1 RepliesI have windows 8.1 pro currently and run a dual drive system on my computer consisting of an ssd for the OS and an hdd for everything else. I have transferred the default documents, photos, download folder etc to my hdd and am still looking to do the same with the appdata folder but dont want to risk everything up so its not happening. I also want to get windows 10 and have already reserved a copy. I want to know:
1. Will it mess up my file config as i must disconnect the hdd for OS install?
2. Is the upgrade worth the hassle?
3. Will it put computer performance in the sewer?
4. Will it screw up everything?
I want to delete the windows old folder in windows 10 as its hogging up quite a bit of space, only upgraded windows 8 to 10 a few days ago.
However it wont let me, I have tried disk cleanup and tried to delete the windows old folder, but it tells me I don't have permission to delete this folder, and if I try again it says that I need permission from SYSTEM to make changes to this folder.
I restored my system back a few days because my OS just started falling to pieces with errors. That issue is fixed, but now my windows isn't activated anymore. I have had no hardware changes, since i upgrades from windows 7 except changing the driver for my Ethernet adapter. My error reads Error code: 0xC004C003

After having to restart my computer again however, it's come back: every time I put Windows in sleep mode and turn it back on, it instantly shuts off. Not even a blue screen, it just turns off before the screen has a chance to even turn on.

When I use ASC I keep getting warnings from defender that my system is not protected that I need to download an anti-virus program. Does Defender not know ASC has a virus program in its system?
View 2 RepliesRecently I've installed Windows 10 on a Dell Inspiron 17. It had had a preinstalled Ubuntu. When installing Windows, I deleted the Ubuntu partition, leaving only the one for system recovery and the one called DIAGS, I think.
Now everytime the system is loading, for a split second I get the Windows Boot Menu screen that's cut from the top. See : [URL] ....

I have HDD attached but they are encypted with bitlocker. Prior to upgrade I had no issues.
driver_verifier_iomanager_violation BSOD loop on starup, it's even worse now. This time my BSOD came from having chrome open while rendering in Premiere. It would do this every time so I turned off chrome while rendering and I wouldn't get any. I never had any problems with games. I did notice Chrome would stutter with Facebook open but nothing else would cause issues. The last render I did rendered out. I then opened chrome and my computer froze. I tried to boot in and it froze after I loaded in to the desktop. I then set the BIOS to default settings and turned off AMD cool and quiet and AMD turbo. Now after the ASUS splash loading screen pops up, it goes to a black screen. Rebooting a million times and trying to repair did not work. The other monitor doesn't even get a signal. Leaving the computer off with no power for awhile did not work either which always fixed it before. checking the disks everything seemed fine. Safe mode blue screens everytime too within a minute if it even boots up to begin with.
View 9 RepliesI have recently upgrade to Win 10 from windows 7 and it was running fine until it started booting with the analyzing and repairing windows screen. I had tried to get out of it by windows repair and by system restore but there were no points to restore too. I ended up trying the windows reset which failed when I selected to leave my files so then I tried the reset including removing my files. It failed part way through saying it could not complete the action and now when I boot up every time I get "An operating system wasn't found" etc. I do not have a windows CD or know my windows registration number.
View 4 RepliesI have tried to upgrade from win7 to win10 after copying the files and the system restarts, I will get the error 0xc000000f. I have both win7 and win10 disks and the automatic repair would not work.
Apparently this has to to with some bios settings, I have tried to follow the guide but I do not have all the options to described in the guide below.

I found out that the hard disk is 100% utilized. In Task Manager, the process that utilizes the disk the most is ESET Service. If I open Resource Monitor there are many instances of the System process that are reading the disk, not writing it. I have two partitions on my disk - one for the system and the other one for data; the extensive disk reading is done for Pictures (I assigned a folder with pictures, about 140 GB in size, to the system My Pictures folder) on the data partition.
I am not running any tests in the ESET Endpoint Antivirus software and it seems to me that the high disk activity starts when I do not do anything and just e.g. browse Internet or look at something. So, it feels like Windows is doing something, but what it is and how I can influence it. If it were disk optimizations I think I should see also disk writes, not only reads. Could it be that Windows is doing something automatic with Pictures, Documents, etc.?
I wonder what is going on - I dislike the fact that something is going on with the hard disk, making is 100% utilized and making other work very slow and non-responsive.
Whenever booting my pc I get a "operating system wasn't found error". I've checked to make sure my hard drive was set to the boot drive and I've tried reinstalling but that doesn't work either.

View 3 RepliesInstalled Windows 10 (free) off Microsoft over Windows 7 home premium. System rebooted, started opening windows 10 and I received an error about system ra into a problem and needs to reboot.
Error was System_Thread_Exception_Not_Handled. After about 20 reboots and same problem error, gave up. Can't get into my system!
does Windows 10 pre-installed on SP4 allow the users to change from the English version of the OS into Japanese version so that we could type and read Japanese as well as use the Japanese version of software?
View 1 RepliesI have attempted to download windows 10 around 4/5 times, the download completes and states that my computer needs to restart upon which it claims it is configuring the windows 10 upgrade. I would assume from this point it would restart into the windows 10 configuration however each time I have tried it it restarts back into windows 8 as if nothing had happened.
My laptop then opens up windows update and says I am able to download windows 10. This is really frustrating as I can't even seem to get into the windows 10 setup.
As you can see I am attempting to download again but there is no trace at all of it attempting to install windows other than this failed update that you can see here.
I am using an HP Pavillion 15-n268a laptop.
I just noticed in the Task Manager a while ago that "Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework Host Process" under "Background Processes" was running at about 50% of CPU constantly. I did some research and found out that this only seems to happen when Windows Media Player is running. It seems to happen even when Windows Media Player is not doing anything, when it's not even scanning for new media. When I close Windows Media Player, the "Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework Host Process" CPU usage drops immediately to 0%.

On Window 8.1. Boosted the install which a lot of people are doing by clearing SoftwareDistribution/Download and running the cmd prompt.
Downloaded the Windows 10 update, as soon as the Preparing to Install dialogue was done, the computer restart, trying to install a normal Windows 8.1 update instead.
Once I am booted up again, I get this error [URL] .... and try the fix.
Once I try and redownload the update again, it skips to 100%, then fails the update with the error 80070643 being reported.
