Video Playback Of Files On HD / SSD Pauses But Audio Continues?
Oct 12, 2015
Any video that I playback that is on one of my HD/SSD pauses but the audio continues, then after 10-15 seconds the video cuts to where audio is or fast forwards. Does not happen with short clips but with movies or tv episodes.

Having recently updated to Windows 10, I am astonished (annoyed) to discover Windows 10 does not play WMV video files, particularly those created using Windows Movie Maker. There doesn't seem to be very much advice on this on the net and the following is short list of the tried and failed suggestions:
•Turning on/off WMP through Control Panel>Programs>Programs & Features>Turn Windows Feature On or Off.
•Repeating the above then restarting my laptop twice, after which running sfc/scannow at the Command Prompt.
•Disabling / enabling "Turn on DirectX Video Acceleration for WMV files" in WMP Options.
•Troubleshooting Fix via Control Panel>All Control Panel Items>Troubleshooting>All Categories>Windows Media Player Settings - this just returns the message "Configuration settings might be set incorrectly" - but doesn't expand on what settings are wrong.
I also came across this "FIX: Updade to enable DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA) of Windows Media Video content in Windows Media 10" at [URL] ....
However after downloading the 'fix' (Download the WindowsMedia10-KB888656-x86-Global-ENU.exe package now.) it doesn't install - instead I get the error message "Not enough storage is available to process this command."

After upgrading to W10 from W8.1 (which went trouble free) when my laptop is powered completely off and I turn on the laptop, after the Acer splash screen the video stops working. Windows continues to load just no video.
IF I go into the bios during startup and just exit out of it, W10 starts normally, with video. It will also reboot with no problem, no video loss, only when the laptop is powered completely off.
I tried going to the Acer web site and downloading their W10 drivers, made no difference. I installed the latest bios.

the only real problem I am having sense upgrading to win10 (from win7 home) is the first time I open a video in IE 11 or Edge the audio is fine but the video is a green blur. If I close it and reopen the video all is good.

I'm on a Sony Vaio Pro 13 running Windows 10 64bit. Ever since upgrading to Windows 10 I've been experiencing strange horizontal distortion on the right half of the screen while viewing videos through any internet browser. The issue seems to be confined to YouTube ads (actual videos themselves are fine), news websites, and other websites whose video encoding is presumably similar. I've attached a fairly shoddy image I took with my phone to demonstrate the issue.
I have upgraded and tried reinstalling any driver that I thought was feasibly connected to video playback to no avail.

So, Alienware sent me a replacement M18 last week with better specs than my old one. I had this issue on the old one, but chalked it up to the other problems it had. This laptop has been in my hands since last Friday. The issue is, video play back of any kind, any browser and any app causes the entire system to hang. It forces me to do a hard reset every time. Everything else works perfectly. Absolutely no issues with any video game. I thought it was maybe gfx related but nVidia said it wasn't and get with Alienware.
Before I went to them, I thought I would try microsoft support techs... After remotely connecting they suggested a fresh install of the os. So now my pc has a completely fresh install of the os and still has the problem. The issue happened before and still remains after updating all drivers. I just finished talking to alienware support. They connected remotely, checked all the drivers, ran several diagnostic tools and said everything looked perfect. The tech suggested the cpu is spiking in temp and they would send someone to replace the heat sink.
But the monitoring software he used shows the temps to be around 68C to 75C even when I recreate the issue and it hangs the last reading is normal. So I don't think their solution is correct. I'm attaching the Sysnative BSOD Dump + System File Collection App and Administrative Events. In this info, I recreated the issue at 10:50am according to the computers clock. It just doesn't make sense that a brand new computer would have this problem, especially when everything else works just fine.

Ever since I installed Windows 10, the video playback is choppy and at times freezes in any browser ( Edge, Firefox or Chrome)
I can view videos with no problem in VLC media player, the problem is when watching video in a browser.

This began when I was having issues with my headset and I decided to just uninstall all of my sound drivers, I manually installed my headset drivers and Windows installed the rest on it's own. I then found out it was just the usb port so I plugged my headset into a different one and all was good there...
The problem now is that the sound in my monitor(TV) will randomly just stop working and videos will start to stutter unless I switch to a different playback device, even when I go to do that the sound window takes a long time to open and can be unresponsive.
Uninstalling the driver and restarting my computer fixes all of these problems momentarily but they inevitably come back.

I am running Windows 10 Home 64-bit. I have an Intel HD Graphics card and a NVIDIA GeForce GT 735M. I have had an issue for a couple of months when viewing videos or footage from my built-in camera. Half of the screen appears fine, but the other half is filled with horizontal blurring bars. This happens with a lot of videos, but some appear okay. The attached image is an example from today on YouTube.

Laptop Samsung NP300V5A. Sound stops working about a month after Win 10 upgrade. No changes done at the time.Audio devices show up under Device Manager, but not under Playback/Recording Devices. Same for Realtek Sound Manager - it doesn't see the devices. I can install, delete and update drivers under Device manager but it doesn't make any difference. It is not a physical problem, tested on Linux live CD.
Solutions tried:
-Installing various versions of HD Realtek Drivers (including windows update version)
-Installing/Removing Realtek software.
-Enabling/Disabling devices under Device Manager
-Called spirits of ancestors. Seemed like it worked for a while, but ended up being a joke.
-Did system restore to various dates.
-Restarted in safe mode
-Restarted various services such as Windows Audio, Windows Audio Endpoint Builder, Plug'n'Pray, Power, etc.
-Checked system, application and driver even logs.
-Tried a couple of registry fixes. Angered spirits of ancestors. Turning gray..
-Reinstalled chipset drivers
-Rebooted about 30 times
-Sound Device Troubleshooting finds no issues
-Display Disabled Devices is enabled

Basically what the title says. I need to be able to:
1. Change the audio playback device to a specific device.
2. Change the active window.
Both need to be able to be done in cmd. How would I be able to do that?

so before I wiped my entire PC the sound was working flawlessly - I would use the audio inputs for the Razer Blackwidow Chroma and it would work perfectly.Since the reset however, no sound has been discoverable, I get a red x on my speaker, and it says "No audio drivers installed" on "Playback Devices" I have tried putting my headphones in every audio jack on my PC (front, back and keyboard) and it still isn't picking my headphones up, I have installed the latest drivers and still no joy.

I recently updated to windows 10 and haven't had too many problems, although my Toshiba video player gives me audio but not video when playing dvds. This isn't usually a problem for me unless I'm somewhere that doesn't give me internet access, that's when I'll put on a dvd. My question is how do you fix this? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling without success. The only other thing I can think of is to go back to windows 8, but I don't really want to do that just yet.

I have a BSOD issue that only tends to happen when I'm playing a video. This happened quite frequently when watching youtube videos before the upgrade from 8, but after the upgrade it has slowed down some and wasn't really bothering me. Here lately I have been using an emulator to play FFVIII and periodically it will BSOD which is very annoying because sometimes you can go hours before seeing a save point. When attempting to debug the crash dump files it just tells me that I do not have the correct symbols. I'm not an idiot by any means, but there aren't a ton of useful documents out there that walk you through getting the correct symbols. Every driver is as up to date as possible including the mobo and bios.

If we're watching a movie from Netflix or another source, or even the news, the audio and video have a stutter to them, they're out of sync, and when you move the mouse to the spot where a progress bar SHOULD be, nothing happens for minutes. When the bar finally DOES appear, it could take as long as 10 minutes for it to finally pause.
I checked it while ago while I was talking with a Windows "tech", who did nothing except update the driver for the mouse. She had me disconnect the modem which I told her that would disconnect her being able to work on the pc, but she said to go ahead, so I did.
Windows 10 is turning into the new version of Vista where nothing works as it should. I'd rather have 7 back, or even XP rather than this, free or not! I've spent more time restarting the computer and getting maybe 5 minutes of video/audio that works right than anything. The new Windows is free, and now I know why.

I upgraded to Windows 10 and everything is working flawlessly except for Game DVR. It records the video very well with nice quality and all but does not record the audio. Checking the .mp4 file with media info I noticed that the video does not have and audio track, only video.

SP3 running 10 preview build 10041 and I'm getting terrible clicking, skipping, buzzing, etc on everything from youtube videos, local videos played in VLC, soundcloud streaming music, etc
Had these problems on 9926 and prayed it would be resolved but nope. I've read a bunch of "update your drivers" posts but they NEVER have the correct version. Also experiencing the 1/27 hardware update install loop.

Almost anytime I try to use audio or video on my laptop it gets stuck for a while before it starts playing (video is worse). It happens both online and offline with things like windows media player, soundcloud, and spotify, but I notice it most frequently on youtube. When I click on a video, it takes ~1-3 minutes for it to start playing. If I pause a video and come back to it a couple minutes later, the audio will play first, then the audio will stop and the video will play alone until the two sync up and return to playing normally. I downloaded a browser extension to try and record what was happening, and amusingly the extension will not start working until the video is also working, so I assume there is a similar mechanism of action between all those things.
This is a used computer I've had for about 4 months. I've used Windows 8.1 and 10 on it during that time and had the same problem on both operating systems. It's an HP Pavilion g7-2251dx.

I recently opted for the free Windows 10 upgrade (still debating if it was worth it) from a Windows 7. Long story short, there was a new problem every day so I just wiped everything and did a clean install hoping the old windows 7 files would stop clashing with the new windows 10 files. All went well and was working fine when boom my speakers start acting up. Don't know what I did to trigger it, it just started doing this.
Basically, when using my USB connected headset, everything runs fine, sounds nice, no problems. When I change over to my desktop speakers though, all audio and video goes into "slow motion" and makes obnoxious sounds. Computer doesn't lag, just audio and video for YouTube, games, etc.
I've tried reinstalling drivers via device manager and it says it's all up to date. I just tried installing Realtek audio driver manually and now it won't even play sound through the speakers. I know the speakers are fine because they sound beautiful when plugged into my ps4.
Update: After installing Realtek and doing a restart, the speakers are in fact making sound, but now it's also extremely quiet and scratchy. Had to crank it to max just to hear anything.
Update: May have fixed my problem, at least temporarily.
I went to device manager and deleted the speakers then restarted so that it would auto reinstall them. Seems to work fine again...
Update: As I had guessed, it was only temporary. Sound and video just started going all slow motion again. Back to square one and back to the drawing board...

So, there was an automatic windows update on my machine a few days ago. It was some huge update that took hours, and afterwards it was acting like it had just installed Windows again. It had those placeholder screens saying how great Windows 10 was and that it was preparing my machine for first use, etc... I didn't have to do any major setup, like timezone and networks and stuff, but some of my regular apps had been reset and I had to reconfigure them. Other than that it seemed to be working fine.
However, something began happening that is causing me a lot of grief. Every time I am on YouTube or Vimeo, the videos will play for a few minutes, but then the audio drops out and then the video will stop playing. That is in Chrome. In Firefox, the video stops for a second and then it starts back up like the network dropped out (compression artifacts, etc...).
My network has been fine, it is 50meg broadband and is pretty solid. I have gone ahead and updated my audio (I have a G35 USB headset) and I updated my video drivers (nVidia GTX 980), rebooted the machine, rebooted the router and modem, and everything else that I can think of, but still the video does this to me. I also use sites like digital tutors, and their videos do the same thing. So it has to be something on my end.
I did try to go back and look at the update that was installed, but it wiped my update history as well.

I've been waving the flag for the new ecosystem for quite some time now. This is ridiculous. We're out of beta, you have more than enough to allocate in dev/testing/qa resources, how on earth did this slip through? Is Groove Music muting/pausing/stopping for anyone else when they minimize? I have to leave it open to continue to hear music which isn't the end of the world but this bug really shouldn't have survived beta testing.
