View 5 RepliesWe have received two systems both AMD units which recently (last 2-3 days) had completed updates then refused to start afterwards. I cannot roll back or do a system restore. I could refresh the system i guess, or reset. But i would like to solve the issue at hand. Now unfortunately one customers was in a hurry so i had to reset the unit and send it back out the door. So i currently only have 1 system with the same symptoms at the moment. Unit has 8GB Ram, AMD FM2 cpu, 500gb hdd. Was originally running Windows 7 Home Premium but was upgraded to 10 by the customer and reportedly running fine. Both units apparently had done updates a few nights ago and now refuse to boot. The screen is blank and the cursor flashes from standard cursor to busy symbol. I left it for over 5 hours and nothing happened although the drive is blinking away. Hopefully i was looking for some input on manually finding and removing an update from the Windows recovery environment on the Win 10 Boot disk using cmd possibly. Oh and I'm currently running a chkdsk /f /r on the OS drive.
View 9 RepliesI was downloading Windows 10 32-bit using the Media Creation Tool to my 16 GB pendrive which is empty. Right when it reached 100% it displayed "Something Happened". I found the temp file which I believe it downloaded, its called BIT52D1.
View 3 RepliesWhen selecting a file in Windows Explorer and clicking the 'Share' Button, no application/action is ever available on the right pane. Any success with this function ?
View 2 RepliesWhile using the media creation tool to download/install windows 10 I always get "Something Happened" I looked online changed my language like I am supposed to tried using a flash drive to make it install from media, nothing.
View 1 RepliesMy Start Screen very weird recently. I can't drag icon app to Start, I can't drag to organize app on Start, when I right click on app, only "More" appears, other options just gone,
View 5 RepliesWhenever I log-in from hibernate or boot, the start interface shows. I had this enabled in Windows 8.1 (start screen), but now I'm on 10 (no start screen) and it still shows.
There is no option to disable it. Is there a registry key to disable this?
P.S. My start screen is normal, not full screen.
Any of the items under games in this screen shot will not pin to my Start Screen? They will pin to my taskbar though. It's windows 10 Enterprise if that matters. I can right click and select Pin to Start, but nothing happens. Right click again and Pin To Start is still listed as an option, but doesn't do anything?
View 2 RepliesOn startup, I have it set to display the Start Screen without the Start Menu. When I exit an app the Start Menu is displayed and I have to click the Windows icon to once again display only the Start Screen (tiles only).
View 5 RepliesWindows 10 install went fine a couple of wks ago. Computer ok last night. This am it had turned itself off. I rebooted thinking there must have been an automatic windows update. Start up screen is red. I can not access the start menu nor the internet.
View 5 RepliesI read of a possible fix and it said to click on Start and then go to Settings and then go to Personalize and then go to Start and click on " Use Full Start Screen". when I click on the start icon and right click it, I have to go to Control Panel to go to Settings and one of the options is Personalize but there are three choices below it and one of them does not say go to " Start" and then click Use Full Screen. I don't know if this is related or not, but over the same period of time recently, I get an email that I receive every couple of days and there is a link in the email. When I click on the link over the past few days, nothing happens.I have had Windows 10 for about three months and the PC is a Dell which is about three years old.
View 3 RepliesWhen I switch on my laptop, appears to start up, brand name appears, then screen goes blank.
Stays that way, nothing else happens.
Screen is not black, a sort of faded blue.
The first win 10 upgrade worked well on my Packard Bell Easynote TS11SB laptop, but the next upgrade REALLY SLOWED DOWN the startup process. Now 2 minutes. I've tried the highly unintuitive disable quick boot up trick to no avail.
View 5 RepliesMy screen saver is set to display my Pictures on Shuffle after a minute, then go to Sleep after 25mns. There is nothing wrong with my Power settings, as that goes off OK, as one person had trouble with both. I upgraded to Windows 10 a couple of weeks ago from Windows 7 without any problems, and my screen saver has actually come on once since doing this.
I have changed to a WI FI modem about a week ago, but I'm sure the I had this when the screen saver came on. I do have a Logie Tech Skype auto mic plugged in which I don't use regularly, but haven't tried unplugging this to see. Everything worked perfectly with W7 and WXP before that. Even with these though, I did used to have the odd time when the screen saver didn't come on, but it always righted itself. Just wondering why, if it worked once, that it doesn't work now. My Desk Top just stays put for 25mns now that the screen saver doesn't come on, then goes to Sleep, but I know I could change the time for this.
Even if we don't need a screen saver now, I liked to see MY Pictures slideshow coming up, as they looked really nice. If it is a Microsoft Error, then I hope they will fix it. Mine's not due to poor maintenance, as I have AVG Tune-up and Security installed as well as the AVG anti-virus. The Tune-up keeps the Registry clean and cleans up the Desk Top and space management etc.
How to add groups to the Start Screen? I presently have 4 different groups and I can rename the groups, but I don't know how to add additional groups. I would like to add additional tiles to my start screen but want to keep them organized.
View 2 RepliesHaving issues with pinning things to start? I am unable to pin anything to start after upgrading to 10240.
View 6 RepliesI am using window 10 on my venue pro 8. when i try to pin a web page to my start screen nothing happens. How to do it.
View 2 RepliesI just setup windows 10 mobile preview on my Nokia Icon last night. Last night the Start screen wasn't loading after about 5 minutes, and figured it was just updating, so I went to bed and left phone on. (screen says "Loading . . .", disappears, then "Loading . . .", etc)
This morning I load up phone, and it is doing the same thing. I cannot get the start screen to load.
However, it appears everything else is fairly functional: I'm able to open Cortana, I can launch internet browser, I can surf the web, I can send a text from Cortana, etc. But as soon as I go to start screen, it never loads.
Initially, the screen would loop on "Loading . . .". If I held down the back button, the tasks would show a blank Start task. But after I get cortana or another app to open, when I try to go 'home', it shows "Loading . . ." once, then immediately goes back to the app -- and if I check the tasks, it never shows 'Start'.
In Windows 8, we could pin a website to the Start Screen. I have updated to Windows 10 and cannot figure out how do so with the new OS. Am I missing something or is this not possible?
View 2 RepliesRight, it is clear that the value of live tiles is rather reduced if they don't appear at boot to announce all updates. Especially if you don't want them clogging up the notification centre with stuff less important than emails and other comms. Don't suggest tablet mode. Until W10 works properly with swipes on precision touch pads like the T650 (rather than basic touch pads only like the ones on laptops) touch mode is pretty horrid on desktops.I found the group policy setting to force boot to start screen in W10 but it is bugged and does not work. Until MS get around to fixing it, we need a work around.
All we need is to make a Windows script that runs at boot to bring up the start screen. But how? What is the command to bring up the start screen from Power Shell or Command Prompt? Is there a way to trigger a virtual keypress at start to trigger the start screen?
I am irritated by the "Windows 8" apps screen, set as my default. It shows all the tiles I need and seems to work well enough, but if (for example) I go into emails and then want to come out, I'm taken back to the start menu and must click on "Windows 8" again to open the apps screen.
Is there any way I can change settings so I'm returned immediately to the apps screen? I know it's just a couple more clicks but it seems so pointless to be slowed down every time in that way.
I have win 10 pro installed on my dell e6410. When I start my laptop I see very bright blank white splash screen for 2 seconds during the boot process. The sequence is as folows:
1- I press start button and it powers up
2- Windows 10 logo screen appears
3- Very bright white splash screen appears for 2 seconds(This is not normal as i don't see it on work computer which also have windows 10 pro )
4- Then Windows 10 login screen appears and then everything normal.
How to get rid of appearance of this very bright white splash screen which appears during boot process as it is very annoying when you work in dark environment.
After installing Windows 10 my laptop screen is flashing during thw start up menu. Some of the icons are loaded, others are not. The screen flashes constantly. I have not attempted to go into safe mode yet. My laptop met all the requirements for an upgrage so I am frustrated todaay with this.
View 9 RepliesHe has just upgraded his windows 7 home premium to windows 10 by using the dvd iso that he downloaded all went well.
Now his question is when the pc starts up and the welcome screen comes up he has chosen a picture but underneath the circular picture it still says welcome to Windows 7,He thinks that should be Windows ten or something else not Windows 7.
In continuing the Windows 8 tradition, let's see your Start Screen or your Menu if you're into that! I haven't done much here yet, this is my VM to toy around with before I install onto my SSD.
Have to say, I really want the Windows 8 style Start back. Muscle memory has me wanting to hit Start, and then quickly mouse over to the This PC tile in the lower left corner. There is no more lower left corner.
how can I make Windows 10 boot to start screen automatically like it did in WIndows 8.1?
