View 5 RepliesI run uninstall a program and the program disappears from the Uninstall or Change A Program menu but the program is still on the system and operates perfectly.
View 7 RepliesFor instance: Edge downloads a program which has a setup dialog. On hitting run, the setup dialog appears on the taskbar, but Edge remains in front. Once you bring the setup screen is in focus, you don't realise that it will not respond because, again, behind Edge, another dialog has opened saying "another instance of setup is already running".
This behavior seems to happen with other error messages, and property sheets etc. which ought to be brought to front, but open in the background.
what is the resolution to it?
I'm looking for a program to make speakers not consume power when no audio is playing. Is it possible?
View 5 RepliesRecently I have had a repeating issue with the (egg) timer running constantly. I have been unable to stop it or to close the current program or web page which appears to be involved. What is happening? I thought it might be due to RAM running too low but that does not seem to be the case --- I can keep a constant check on RAM and use utilities to free it up at will. So if not RAM, what is it and what can i do about it?
View 7 RepliesI am running Windows 10 Home 64-bit. I have an Intel HD Graphics card and a NVIDIA GeForce GT 735M. I have had an issue for a couple of months when viewing videos or footage from my built-in camera. Half of the screen appears fine, but the other half is filled with horizontal blurring bars. This happens with a lot of videos, but some appear okay. The attached image is an example from today on YouTube.
View 4 RepliesIt is easy to increase the time an Outlook 2013 Desktop Alert stays on for a long time (hours or maybe all day) by using the registry hack below in Windows 7. This won't work under Windows 10. The longest time I can get by any method, Control Panel or hack is 5 minutes. How to make it at least a couple of hours or preferably all day?
Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice<version>CommonDesktopAlerts
Value name: TimeOn
Value type: REG_DWORD

When I start any program its window appears in background - behind others. Even it is the first program I start its windows is not active and I need to click it to make active.
That issue appeared when I was with Windows 8.1 and after upgrade to Windows 10 remains. What I have tried - changing the register value of ForegroundLockTimeout to 0 but it didn't work.
When I click to start some programs, I get this AFS Error Info window. After clicking OK, I then get the UAC window. Except for the extra step, nothing goes wrong--it's just annoying. Sometimes programs requiring a UAC show this AFS error, sometimes not. What this is and how to stop it?
View 9 RepliesThe new Windows notifications appear over my windowed fullscreen games, especially in one game covering up the minimap. Is there a way to make it appear under them? It used to work perfect in Windows 8 and earlier, where the speech bubble notification would appear over my non-fullscreen programs, but would be hidden behind windowed fullscreen ones.
View 2 RepliesStart menu remains open all the time, even after rebooting multiple times. I am unable to shut the start menu and am not able to access my desktop. No application opens in the small size but all only work with a full screen.
View 1 RepliesWhen i open any sort of program, i notice that the loading circle next to the cursor blinks in and out of existence constantly, and when i try to move it, it snaps back to the original spot unless i quickly move it a little bit and let go of the button.
View 1 RepliesI never had this problem on Windows 7. But when I remote to a Win 10 PC, start a process, let's say copying files, when I close the connection (via the X at the top...NOT disconnect from start menu), it closes the copy process.
Are there some new settings or something that I need to change to correct this?
In every version of Windows 10 I have used, including the most recent official build (and unlike every previous Windows including XP, Vista, 7, 8, etc...) my window positions on the desktop are not remembered (sticky) each time I close the window. Meaning that each time I open a window I have to either re-position it or adapt to wherever Windows has chosen to place it.
View 9 RepliesDisable Desktop Window Manager (dwm.exe) permanently . I believe its causing me to crash in certain applications, the option to disable is not available in services.msc
Group policy maybe? Or registry?

When I start some programs the program will start up normal, It shows up as running in the task bar I can even alt-tab and see the running program but I cant see the program on my desktop in order to interact with it. I have tried cascading all my windows it still will not show up. Ive tried right clicking the program on the task bar and selecting "move" that does not work. This only started when I installed windows 10. Some of the programs that wont show up are.
ASUS GPU Tweak
Netflix
Control Panel (occasionally happens but can get it back by restarting computer)
So, beginning the other day my computer has been having this problem where everything becomes unresponsive except for whatever I currently have open.
To explain: When I start up my computer, if I first open up an internet browser, I can no longer click on anything on the desktop or taskbar or anything. If I have multiple programs open, such as my browser, Skype, and Steam, only one of them will ever work. Clicking on any of the others does nothing, and Alt-Tabbing will take me to the different programs, but only one is ever responsive at a time.
A temporary fix (i.e. a 15 second fix) is to CTRL-ALT-Delete into Task Manager, which for some reason allows all the programs to once again work. However, whichever one I go into for more than 10 seconds, that one becomes the only one to work, and the problem persists.
I've done two system restores, but they solved nothing. I even updated to Windows 10 to try and fix it, but no luck. My hope is to not have to do a full factory reset.
I had an issue with Firefox where if I clicked the Taskbar icon, the program would not show on the desktop. HOWEVER, if you hover over the icon, it showed what it would look like if it were expanded. I restarted it in safe mode and got it to work again.
Just now WORD is doing the same thing. I had 3 WORD windows open and then they stopped showing at some point. However, they appear if I hover over the icon (set to "always combine, hide labels" in taskbar). I can see that they are in the same state that I left them, but they won't show on the desktop if I click them.
So right now, WORD won't open at all, even though the icon thinks it is open. This is really a problem since I need to finish some work with WORD ASAP.
On my Desktop, whenever I go to Start > Power > Sleep , when I come back from Sleep the Start window is still open. In Windows 7 we came back to a clean desktop. It does this on 3 PCs.
View 5 RepliesI've noticed when monitoring the task manager my ram usage never goes over 7.3GB used, Ive purposely tried to make it use more but it seems to hit a ceiling at that point.

I've now also noticed MSI Afterburner only detects 8GB.
Every bit of bench mark software detects 16GB
Bios detects 16GB
I am using slots A2 and B2 as per the ASUS user guide.

i have this problem since a long time ago , and i can't seem to figure out how to fix it!
i am sick of this file, the option of "Open file location" is grayed out for it !
Last, previously closed window outline remains displayed. Sometimes can 'force' it to go away by left clicking on an unused portion of desktop but not always.
Just got laptop for Christmas and has always had this problem so might be a setting.
Have looked at Advanced -> Visual Settings but didn't see any that looked like would fix (tried setting Best Performance - which turned everything off but didn't fix)
Click the start menu button. The left half is the traditional side- the right half is the side with all those live tiles and windows 8.1/windows 10 style touch apps. How do I get rid of that right part?
Problem in my googling is that I don't know what it's called. Closest thing I've found is unpinning individual windows- that's not what I want. I just want to get rid of that whole right part.
I got a brand new cpu, just 2 days ago. It's not superfast or powerful, it is an I5 3.2GHZ with 8GB RAM. But all I use my cpu for is reading news on the web, watching youtube and writing papers. No gaming etc. When i got my new cpu 2 days ago I did download and install AVG antivirus and spybot search and destroy. I'm on windows 10 and with these 2 programs running in the background for protection, I'm using about 50% of my CPU Memory. Is this bad? Should I make a change or remove spybot?
