Ever since upgrading to Windows 10 I am having random "Access Denied" messages when saving files in various local directories. From my research it appears that I need to take ownership of my files again. However, I can't seem to get the system to understand that I am the owner. When attempting to take control many folders will come up with an enumeration error. Why I am unable to take possession of my own folders? I think the reason I'm having issues is that after I upgraded I switched to a Microsoft account which uses a different username than what I used previously before the upgrade. But, there should still be a way to claim access to my files.
Initial Error Message:
Enumeration Error when attempting to take ownership:
I have win7 and am going to install win10 from usb. I currently have my OS on my SDD and all my docs, prog files, ect on HDD. Ive read a clean install is best for win10.
My question is, can I delete all the SDD OS partitions during install, select install on the SDD while leaving my HDD completely intact? If so, what option would I select to get to the formatting partition screen without it automatically erasing my HDD files?
I have about 500 empty directories on my c: drive with names like the ones pasted below. I believe a failed Quicken install left them there. Anyway, normally this would be no big deal, but in this case, they are all at the root level and it makes my "real" directories hard to find. I've tired several things to get rid of them. Here's an example of one of my attempts from an Administrators command shell:
dir *.tmp
. . .
09/11/2015 04:51 PM <DIR> QuiFAC7.tmp
09/11/2015 04:51 PM <DIR> QuiFAC8.tmp
09/11/2015 04:51 PM <DIR> QuiFAD9.tmp
0 File(s) 0 bytes
501 Dir(s) 1,337,724,145,664 bytes free
[code]....
I've tried it with PowerShell and with the "hidden" Administrator id, no luck. I also tried to change the security setting for the c: drive itself, also with no luck. Do any of you have a PowerShell script or something similar which will remove these annoying empty directories?
I got the update to windows 10, but I want to do a clean installation. How can I create an ISO file and If I install it will it remain activated?

View 1 RepliesThe other day, I was trying to fix Windows Default Apps not working by adding "ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES" to the following directories as indicated here: [URL]
However, it seems to have messed up the permissions as what I did was take ownership and then added both myself and "ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES".
My question is, how do I reset the permissions of the following folders and their sub folders and sub files to the defaults:
C:Program Files
C:Windows
C:Users
Does this command below do it?
icacls * /T /Q /C /RESET
My other question is will it fix the folders to the default inheritance if I enabled inheritance to child folders/files for a folder that was by default disabled or if I disabled inheritance to the child folders/files for a folder that is by default enabled?
Other than the above, Am I correct that I will have to manually change the permission for each users folder under C:Users so they own and have full control of that folder.
I wanna upgrade my Windows 7 PC directly using the Media Creation Tool, keeping the personal files only. Is it possible to specify which folders to keep?
At minimum, I would like to remove the 'AppData' folder to remove old cache and program files, but I'm still not sure if this is a good idea. The only folder I want to keep intact is my very large 'Dropbox' folder.
I considered choosing the "Nothing" option, except I don't want to re-download my entire Dropbox and put unnecessary stress on this 7yr old hard drive.
I was using Windows 8.1 then upgraded to Windows 10, but all of my personal files has deleted and I tried best of recovery programs and they're not worked for me. So, if I roll back to my previous version of Windows, does my personal files recoverd?
View 5 RepliesI had music files on my laptop which was running windows 7, but when I upgraded to windows 10 I can no longer find them and the available space is not now large enough to put the music back from an external drive, which leads me to think that these files are still somewhere on my hard drive.
View 6 RepliesI have fear that my files may get dissappear if i upgrade to windows 10 from windows 7. Is it so?
View 1 RepliesAs the title states I have an SSD and HDD setup, now I have set the Windows Documents, Pictures and Music folders ect and the app data on the HDD as you would.
And some programs are on the SSD and others on the HHD.
Will upgrading to windows 10 mess with this or will it just upgrade without putting random bits of it on my HDD.
Any way to switch Windows 10's WiFi network type to Private and make it to stay like that? I can even manage to switch from Public to Private using a small trick, but some time later, it will switch back to Public network!
View 3 RepliesBoth FreeCommanderXE and MultiCommander fail to show the c:Program Files (X86) directory. Furthermore, FreeCommanderXE fails to show Users<username>Appdata and it's subdirectories.
The following screenshot shows this in 3 overlapping windows; Windows Explorer is the top windows that shows all the "missing" directories are really there. And, BTW, my system runs fine. But why do those file managers not show stuff that is really there?
Yes, I did set both programs to show both Hidden and Systems files.
About a week after Clean Installing Windows 10 from an upgraded version on my laptop, I noticed that i wasn't able to Create a New Folder anywhere, from Desktop to File Explorer Directories. Nothing! Even when i try clicking the "New Folder" Button in the Ribbon or pressing Ctrl+Shift+N it still won't work. In the Context Menu (Right Click), I can't find the "New" Button too. Is this normal for Windows 10 after being installed? Do i have to install something (maybe an update) for the "New" to appear in the Context Menu?
View 9 RepliesI recently upgraded from windows 8.1 to windows 10. I can no longer print word or excel files since the upgrade yet the printer works fine, other files such as from Acrobat Reader print fine. When I print something flickers on the screen but too fast to read, and the job does not show up in my print q. The troubleshooter shows everything is working fine. I have tried printing new files and old archived files and nothing prints in Excel, yet the program otherwise works fine. What can I try to resolve this?

View 4 RepliesWindows 10. I'm at the "Upgrading Windows" screen and it's been stuck at 25% (copying files 84%) for over an hour. Is this normal?
View 7 RepliesI have tried to upgrade from win7 to win10 after copying the files and the system restarts, I will get the error 0xc000000f. I have both win7 and win10 disks and the automatic repair would not work.
Apparently this has to to with some bios settings, I have tried to follow the guide but I do not have all the options to described in the guide below.

I changed the REGEDIT for InitialKeyboardIndicators to a value of 2 and it worked for about a week, but now, even though the value is still 2, the num lock is off after the computer starts up.
This is a brand new Toshiba computer: Toshiba Satellite C55-C5241 15.6 Inch Laptop (Intel Core i5, 8 GB, 1TB HDD, Black)
Whenever I boot up the num lock is off. I would like for it to stay on. Is there a way to fix this?
View 9 RepliesI like to position all my desktop icons in a custom order, but since I took my PC into the Geeks to remove a suspected virus, my desktop icons keep returning to default positions upon restart or refresh. I've experimented with unchecking grid and align options, and even followed instructions found online that instructed me how to modify the registry, yet no success.
