What has happened to the "SEE WHAT'S PRINTING" feature when you "see" your printer in the SETTINGS view in w10? Tried to cancel printing a 20 page document but could not even do that... could not find it.
The issue is I have a network printer selected as the default in Windows 10. I have the option "Let Windows manage my default printer" turned off. At one point randomly, the default printer goes back to the Adobe PDF as the default.
Steps taken:
* I have checked the registry settings to ensure that the options "let Windows manage my default printer" is switched off. I can confirm this. * Switched the default printer back to the network printer and performed a reboot. The network printer remains as the default. At some point of the day it goes back to Adobe PDF.
I'm trying to find the location of the icons located on the start menu (as seen in the image I uploaded). I am specifically looking for the folder explorer one as I am trying to set the taskbar explorer to that icon. I am using the program IconsExtract to scan my computer for icons but to no avail...
I figure since I'm not finding it as an icon, they must not technically be icons. As we are able to change their color via our color settings, they must be some sort of svg or something of the sort.
They are located in the Segoe MDL2 Assets Font. I was looking at this site and then realized that front-end uses fonts for icons as well. Then boom. win.
Now to figure out how to use it in xaml files and where the start menu is calling it.

I backup photos from my phone to Google Photos which then automatically syncs them to my hard drive to a folder in Google Drive. The folder containing these images in Google Drive has been included in the Pictures library, but the Photos app doesn't see them and says "No readable photos, videos or folders found." I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Photos app. The pictures show up fine in Windows Photo Gallery. Does the Photos app has always ignored images in Google Drive or is this a recent development?
I've got a Dell Vostro 3450. It has never worked really well, but the performance has been degrading recently.
I have recently updated to Windows 10, in order to see if it would solve the performance problems. But then I started to face others, so I went to the forums to try to cope with them.
One of these matters was the disk activity time spiking to 100% all the time. I've tried all the things I read, but none of them stopped it.
Then I figured it could be something with the HDD itself. So I downloaded HD Tune Pro Trial and the Health screen is the one that follows.
So I ask: Can the 100% come from the HDD bad health?
I finally had to set up a dual boot with Ubuntu so that I could browse the net in peace. The constant clicky-clack of my hard drive drove me nuts. Windows lately has not given it a rest. Ubuntu on the other hand hardly ever causes overuse of the hard drive. Windows needs to get a handle on this problem..
A few weeks ago I set my app updates to manual. I missed the visibility when something is actually getting updated. Anyways, I manually check for updates 1-2 times a day and see 3-4 on average. This morning I checked and 40 apps were queued up. I am not and have never been on the Insider program on this machine.
I should have clarified: This is Win10 on a Surface 3.
I originally upgraded 7 to 10 and ran that for about 3 weeks, some odd issues came up and decided to wipe out everything and reinstall 10 from the ISO. Well off topic for this question the wipe drive option on installing 10 did not delete anything from my hard drive for some reason, unless windows 10 makes folders with dates back to 2011 on install which is when I first got this computer.
But to my actual question during both the time I spent just upgraded and now with the system with a fresh install I seem to be randomly getting a beep at various times that I can not even use process monitor to track down, it shows no sound activity for mp3 or wav when I get this chime/beep.
I have gone through all sound settings and its none of the ones used, I also have gone through the media folder and played each file there and none match this sound. IF this was the old dos days I would call this a system beep from the PC speaker but its playing though the speakers external to the computer itself.Google has turned up similar issues but none that match software that I run...in the time it took me to type the first part of this line it went off twice, no notifications appear in the action center to go with it.
I just upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10. The computer is connected to the home network via a gigabit switch. I notice that when the computer is in sleep mode ,there is still network activity but only the 10 mb/s connection LED is lit. When I had win7 OS and computer is in sleep mode , that same LED on the network switch would be off signifying no network activity at all .
I never had this problem on Windows 7. But when I remote to a Win 10 PC, start a process, let's say copying files, when I close the connection (via the X at the top...NOT disconnect from start menu), it closes the copy process.
Are there some new settings or something that I need to change to correct this?
After launching Mozilla hard disk activity seems to be permanently on, as if Mozilla where reindexing or something. It takes a long time (10-20 minutes) to stop and it makes browsing a very jerking experience. Of course I did a clean install to rule out some corrupted installation but no dice.
Launching Resource Monitor shows that all disk activity is being done by Mozilla FF and Windows Defender (Firefox being the first candidate).
I am trying to figure out what is going on with my mom's laptop. Two days ago she told me she was using her laptop and everything was fine, but then she left to do some things in the kitchen and came back a bit later to the screen off. Upon waking it up by moving the mouse, all she got was a black screen with a white cursor. I have looked at it and upon manually restarting, it shows the Windows 10 logo, and then it goes to the black screen with the cursor. There is no login screen either but I do also hear the welcome music. One thing I noticed though is the cursor does have the blue loading circle next to it like it is actually still doing something, and it flashes and spins now and then, as well as the computer sounding like its working, but I have left this on for almost 40 minutes now and it is still just a black screen. It sometimes goes to the off screen and have to move the mouse to wake it up again. Some people online suggest task manager and opening up other windows but nothing works, I can just move a cursor.
So, wandering around in the wonderland that is The Witcher 3, my computer froze. I reset it using the reset button and got a DISK READ ERROR (ctrl+alt+del to reboot). And then I found that power cycling my SSD worked, which was nice. Upon rebooting back, Windows performed a disk check, then diagnostics, a restart, and then I got into Windows proper. Checking WhoCrashed, it gave me back BAD SYSTEM CONFIG INFO, and the following (large 316 MB) dmp file: [URL] ....
I have a new HP laptop which has a new Windows 10 image on it. I was able to set up my Microsoft account on it, so I can log-in with it, but if I go to SETTINGS | ACCOUNTS | YOUR EMAIL AND ACCOUNTS, nothing ever shows - the animated graphic at the top (flying dots) continues forever and nothing is ever displayed.
My login id has admin rights, so I don't think it's not a permissions issue. Why I can't see/change the account information??
I used avg tuneup to check the disk for errors on next boot and my computer turned off while it was checking for errors. After this happened I can't get windows 10 to boot into login. I get a message saying it can't boot windows and I get a bad system config info error.
I am using a N5050 Inspiron Dell Laptop.I tried booting into command prompt and running the command chkdsk /f /r /x and when it finishes it says it didn't fix anything or fine any errors. Ubuntu says it has bad sectors when I tried to run a fix on the partition in gparted. I tried burning easyre windows 10 recovery disc on usb and DVD-r without any luck on ubuntu. Yes I know how to setup my computer to boot from cd/dvd or usb. I only have access to windows command prompt and ubuntu system on external usb jump drive I have no access to windows computer.
I had been dual-booting between win 7 and win 10. That part was working fine, but I was unhappy wth my win 10 installation. So I erased the partition and reinstalled it. First sign of trouble: It didn't detect my win 7 installation. But it was there (I already got files from it). I installed EasyBCD, added the entry for win 7, saved the set up, then wrote the MBR with the new entry. Went to MSConfig to doublecheck. Both entries were there. I restarted, and it booted straight into Win 10. EasyBCD no longer had the win 7 entry. Neither did MSConfig. Went through the whole process again. Same problem at restart. And it wasn't fastboot, I could see the BIOS entry, etc.
When I do a "Properties" on my J: HDD it shows "Used space", "Free space" and "Capacity" for this HDD.
When I do the same for my F: HDD it shows ZERO for all three. See above.
BOTH drives are NTFS. Also when I do properties on a folder on J: it shows "Advanced" properties and I can encrypt the folder. Again when I do the same on a folder on F: it doesn't show "Advanced" properties and I can't encrypt the folder?
PS I'm on the latest update of Windows 10 Pro on a 64bit desktop.
My upgrade to Win 10 all appears to be OK, and at onetime it even said that is was ACTIVATED, but later after I went to settings, it reverted back to saying not activated,,, and one of the other places it still says it is activated, but itne systems it say the it is not actived now.
So, my question is: Do you think if I did a "Clean install" that maybe I would be able to get it activated ?
In Windows 8.1 there was an option to delete personal info from live tiles, this was also possible on previous Windows 10 builds but I can't find it. This was useful for when inevitably something breaks on the start screen and we could 'refresh' all the tiles. My Mail App is stuck showing 1 unread message because I reimaged back but backed up with that 1 message unread.
