Where Is The Recent File List That Showed Up In Previous Windows Start Screens
Oct 4, 2015I'm not talking about recent files in Explorer, but on the Start menu.

View 1 RepliesI've only just upgraded to windows 10, so still getting to grips. I have the recent items option enabled in both the quick access panel and jump lists, but they're appearing in neither.
View 5 Repliesif i click file explorer right under frequent folders there is a recent files list this is a privacy issue is there a way that it wont show a list of recent files.
View 4 RepliesI am using Win 10 x64 Pro, clean installation.
1. Recent folders in explorer jump list are not updating. They seem to be random folders from my second HDD and clicking on them says the folder has been moved (which is not true) and it offers to delete the shortcut. Deleting also does nothing, item still remains. Disabling recent folder in settings > personalization > start also has no effect
2. If I tick 'show recently used files in quick access' in folder options it also has no effect. When I open folder options after this it is unticked again.
3. I can't pin anything to quick access, I get 'parameter is incorrect' error.
I have selected certain file types / folders and locations in Windows Defender on Windows 10 that were added to the exclusions lists...
Previously I could go to Windows Defender and see what files, folders or extensions I had excluded but now they have disappeared....
All I see is the add buttons which work as intended when I want to add a folder etc etc.... But then they are not listed anywhere so that I can remember what I have excluded or not....
How to get that visible again, is there a setting in the registry that needs to be fixed?
This is what I should see where, below the red arrows I should see the excluded files/folders including their path etc etc [see image below]
but I see nothing..
Yet if i go to the registry as indicated below...
File and file location exclusions are stored in the registry key below.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows DefenderExclusionsPaths
File type exclusions are stored in the registry key below.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows DefenderExclusionsExtensions
Processes exclusions are stored in the registry key below.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows DefenderExclusionsProcesses
they are all listed there....?
I have to say that windows defender is excluding folders/files and etc etc, that I have selected during its scans, but I cant see the excluded items in the Windows Defender as per image of my Exclusions section below...
Can I use switch user option on power option list or on start menu list ?
View 3 RepliesI use Notepad++ to edit Python files which have the file extension .py such as "sample.py"
I would like to set Notepad++ as the default program to open .py files.
When I open a .py file I get the popup asking me which file I want to use to open. But I do not get the choice to set the default program to open this extension.
When I go to Settings|Choose Default Apps By File Type the .py extension is not listed.
Looking through the registry I see that there is no .py handler.
Q: What is the method to manually add a file extension and associate it with a program?
I currently encountering a problem restoring files from the shadow volume. I do not see any version history when I click the previous version history tab. Using a third party tool like shadowexplorer I am able to see the previous versions. Exporting the files out from the shadow volume also is incomplete with file errors. Any way for me to restore fully some files from the shadow copies ?
View 3 RepliesI use "Photos" app as default viewer when i manually open a picture file from explorer. I don't really like it, except for its touch feature but i give it a try..
One missing feature is that once i opened a file in it from explorer, i can't browse others files in same folders from application. Is there a way to enable this ability ?
At work, I'll open files on a network path that is only accessible at work, e.g. mywork.orgsharesfile.xyz
These files will appear in my recent list when opening File Explorer (Win+E). The problem I have is at home where that network path is not accessible, and the File Explorer window will HANG for minutes trying to find the file. I can get around it by running CCleaner and cleaning recent files, but I was wondering if there was something else that could be done where I don't have to wipe out my recent list?
Much as I like Windows 10 (despite an unnecessarily difficult installation), I'm horrified to find that they have apparently abandoned the 'Favorites' and 'Recent places' folders - which I used constantly and had grown to love.
Are they hiding them somewhere? Is there a way to restore/find them? Have I missed something obvious?
(I can't believe that they would be so stupid as to get rid of them: 'recent files' and 'Frequent folders' are good, but not quite as useful...).
Every time I open file explorer it displays my recent files. I would like to turn this feature off. If I can't find my own files without recent files, you can have my computer.
Why does Windows 10 want to hold our hand on everything?
You know those little kids in the Win 10 commercials? The ones that don't have to worry about security.
Well they will not have to worry about their EMAIL either. If email arrives Win 10 will never notify them, action center, sound and banner notifications never work.
Naturally the Mail App live tile only displays for 10 minutes if at all.
My new laptop has Windows10 pre-installed. It crashed and file explorer won't now show recent files. It seems to be showing recent folders but there are no recent files. Settings/personalisation/start shows "recently opened files" is turned "on" and File Explorer is showing on the Task Bar....
View 1 RepliesWhen I right click the File Explorer icon on the taskbar, not only do I get the pinned files, but also the recently opened ones. How do I stop it recording the recent ones?
View 2 RepliesI wanted to add some programs to the top of the left side of the start menu (free space on the screenshoot). I have read about the "Pin to Start List" if you rightclick while holding shift. But this seems not to be working anymore!?!?! Is there another possibility to customize this list or to re-add the function? I don't want to use "recently added apps" or something like that ...
View 9 RepliesI'm using 3 screens, and I have moved the taskbar to the middlescreen. But when I press the startbutton the start menu pops up on the screen to the left, which isnt really that great. Is it possible to move the start menu so that it pops up on the middlescrren instead of the one to the left?
View 5 RepliesSo File Explorer Quick Access shows Recent Folders, because I pinned it to be there:
But, when you go to "Save as" dialog box, Recent Folders inexplicably disappears from Quick Access:
Why is that? How can I fix it so that "Save as" and "Open" show Recent Folders in Quick Access in navigation pane?
I recently messed up a previous Win10 installation and had to use gparted (kept saying the drive was locked when I tried to use Recovery CD) to delete partition and start from scratch. Everything installed fine like before but now when I start up or restart laptop I get the option to boot either Windows 10(previous install) or Windows 10 on volume 2(new working install).
How do I get rid of that previous install option so i can go straight to boot up?
Due to a reinstall my laptop had a dual boot system with windows 10 twice installed. Now I was finished with the migration and I used EaseUs Partition Master to remove the old partition and add the space to the new partition. But now my windows doesn't boot anymore. It gets to the windows logo and the waiting icon under it, but it doesn't go to the user logon screen.
The old situation before the resize was:
Win 10 (old) 30 gb
Win 10 (new) 220 gb
We’re sorry, but you can’t go back. The files we need to take you back were removed,(But the files are there),what next?
View 1 RepliesJump List pinned shortcuts working fine on Notepad, Excel & Word, but pinned jump list shortcuts for File Explorer do not work. I click on them and nothing happens. I've tried removing them and re-pinning, but the only shortcut that works is the file explorer one. Is this a known bug or just on my Windows 10 install?
View 11 RepliesOn windows 7 it's convenient to have recent file at Start menu. How can I find this on windows 10?
View 9 RepliesNew start menu yet. There are some parts copied over from xp / win7 and other parts not. What I used most out of the start menu before was from the pinned (old style pinned at top) or recent programs that have the little arrow with the recent docs that had been opened by that program.
It's such a brilliant time saving way to re-open files that have been worked on.
My windows 10 was an upgrade from windows7 professional. It's kept some of these under the most used, like word, acrobat, etc. but not others I used often, like excel or epson scanner. And since upgrading to windows 10, I have used these two more than any other program (or "app"). They don't move into the "most used" - why not?
And how can I pin apps into the start so that it has the recent docs option arrow. Pinning it only adds to the tile section and no option to see recent docs opened.
Frustratingly, word and acrobat still have the recent docs in the most used section. So the function is there, just no way to make windows 10 do what the last 20 years of windows done with ease.
Where you open your jump list in File Explorer and then click on something like your Videos or Downloads Folder to have the jump list close like normal, but then nothing open? I also noticed that when I right click on the start button, I can't get any of the options on the menu to launch either.
View 9 RepliesWhere I can find the settings for the Start menu of Windows X? I forgot where it is. I managed to put a link of the download folder in the start menu. Forgot how I did that in the first place.
View 2 RepliesIts been nearly 4 days since release and I have not received any notification that my reserved copy is ready.
