I have two computers now - one for routine office work (e.g., Office suite, Quickbooks) and a dedicated audio/video editing workstation. The latter is very powerful and I'd like to use it for both jobs, but not if all those background processes (59 total), like Cortana, OneDrive, iCloud mean sacrificing resources for critical A/V work. Neither do I have the time or patience to manually disable scores of Startup apps and services each time I throw my A/V hat on.

Aug 3, 2015My win10 installation got stuck at 91% so I had to restart and disable my antivirus and other services, but when I start MediaCreationToolx64 it starts to download the 3gb again from the beginning. Is there an installer somewhere in the downloaded files that can let me skip this or do I have to download it again?

Why Can't Turn On Location Services
Sep 28, 2015I just reinstalled Windows 10 (clean). Now I see that I can't turn on Location Services, so I can't use cortana!
If I click on "change" (turn on) in the settings menu, nothing happens.
If I try to open cortana settings, nothing happens as well.

Cannot Connect To Windows Services Message After Login
Dec 2, 2015I'm not sure what all is affected by "Windows services" not connecting but since that happened, I am unable to access my Outlook email and a solitaire game won't open. I'm also trying to update Windows Defender but it won't finish updating. And, I have checked to see if an update is due and it just never stops looking for one. Little blue dots, little blue dots, little blue dots...
I have not downloaded anything from anywhere.
I never had any problems with Vista or 8.1. I'm almost ready to go back to 8.1.
Performance :: Via Bootup Screen Unable To Choose Which Services Startup
Feb 10, 2016It seems Microsoft has eliminated a feature I once used prolifically: Hardware Profiles. Windows-10 does have a "hardware profile", but it is nothing like what was in XP (or in Win-7, as I understand it). I want to know if there is an alternative in Windows-10 that allows me to control which Services are enabled or disabled from one session to the next, based on the currently selected profile (XP also had User Profile, but that's a different beast, and that still seems to exist in Win-10).
In the older O/S'es (XP, 2ooo, and NT for sure), you could set up multiple "hardware profiles" (silly name because it related as much to controlling Services as it did to controlling Devices). You give each profile a name, and set which one is the default startup if you let the screen time out. This is like the timeout in a multi-boot menu, and it's a menu that comes up right after the O/S menu if you are multi-booted. If you're single boot, it comes up at that same moment in the boot process.
Then, in the properties dialog for an individual Service, in the Logon tab (if I recall correctly, or maybe it was a "Startup" tab), those profile names you made will show up as a list allowing you to set enable at bootup or disable at bootup for each profile in that list.
Can't Disable Ctrl Alt Disable On Login Screen
Sep 28, 2015I activated the ctrl alt disable login screen for Windows 10 by using this registry key from this forum.(Lock Screen - Enable or Disable in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums).
I downloaded and installed the key to disable only to find it didn't work so I tried to manually do it by changing the number from 0 to 1 only to find its already at 1.
I also tried going the user passwords2 to find the box to disable ctrl alt disable login is already ticked, but is greyed out meaning I can't untick the box.
Still Running After Closing Lid And Shut Down
Aug 31, 2015I have noticed this problem come up on my Dell 7537 (Check out my profile for details) when I close the lid to put the computer to sleep, the HDD light turns off, but the fan continues to run, even after several hours. When I open the lid back up, it is just a black screen where I have to hold the power button to do a hard reset. The same thing happens with initiating a shutdown sequence, although that one only does it some of the time.

Sep 21, 2015I use a 120gb ssd on W10 build 10547 and always get rid of Windows old files for earlier builds. When I add up all the space used when C drive is opened in a new window, it comes to 31gb. Trouble is that the disk has actually 88.2gb used, confirmed also by Partition wizard. AMD uses 2gb, docs/downloads 9gb, windows 14gb, recovery 5gb, 32/64 programs 1gb, it really should be a slim system.

I usually do a "synchronize folders" within Total Commander for doing a differential copy of regular applications I download and use.
Anyway, I have found out that TC insists on some files being "different" or "changed" after I have ran them. I have found out w10 "automatically sets" current date and time to the executable file after it has been run. Is this normal? Or is it Windows Defender who does it?

Sep 16, 2015This is very strange, but for some unknown reason Windows 10 will not let me open some programs (e.g. file explorer, task manager, chrome. But, it will let me open Word, Excel and Edge. When I go to shut it down it just keeps running and running. It is almost like some App has taken over part of the system and won't let go. I have let it run for 4 hours and it never shut down. Obviously I have to disconnect the power cord and do a hard boot to get it back.

Nov 27, 2015For the last couple of days, when automatically running Facebook of of my START apps list, after Facebook opens for a while it just cancels out without any warning. No problems before this. However, if I run Facebook thru the Internet after signing "ON", no problem. I uninstalled the Facebook from START and re-installed it from Windows Store and it installed with no problem. However, when I try to run it automatically from START, the same happens. It runs for a while, and whenever it feels like, it just kicks me out and cancels. As I stated above, this has only been happening the last two days.

Aug 15, 2015I had installed windows 10 from betas and i have never reached 80 celsius on my laptop. i am measuring my temperatures with speedfan and also tried with hardwaremonitor but the same readings. my laptop fan is running on very low RPM if it is even running, i searched for programs that can control fan speed but without luck. i dont know whats wrong and i want to fix it ASAP because my laptop life is decreasing because of higher temps. my usage is not even that big. i have only 7 chrome tabs opened.
