I always like to have my Windows positioned in a certain way on my desktop, and even though some programs remain, a lot don't (i.e. 'This PC' & 'Documents' folder) never stay in the same place. It's always random when opened. Not a major issue I know. But annoying all the same. Is there a fix or workaround?
View 3 RepliesSo I upgraded to Win 10 and so far I like it, but a problem which I find annoying:
Whenever I open file explorer the window tends to move from where I placed it. What I mean is I place the window directly in the center, as I like it. When I open it again, it will be displayed at the very top of the screen. When I close it and open it again it will be displayed at the bottom of the screen on the left. The window seems to change places every time it is opened.
Nothing major, but I am OCD about keeping windows centered and organized haha so is there a way to keep the window in one spot? Is this a bug or is this supposed to happen?
I recently got a new gaming laptop and it's been working like a charm, especially since I upgraded it to 10. I am having a problem with my libraries however - this laptop essentially has 3 drives; the (C:) SSD for OS and a few games, and two other normal drives (D: E:) ... one for my games, the other for documents and such.
Due to this, whenever I am in the file explorer and need the quick access to get to say, music, it goes directly the the file on the C: drive rather than where my music folder is actually at, and how to actually change it. My save location was changed to this drive, as well as manually going into the libraries folder in %appdata% and changing the settings to my E: drive, but this hasn't changed anything. This is both under quick access (which can be changed with the pins I believe), but also the drop-down for This PC. Right-clicking these folders for properties does show the folders under C:User[Name], but no way to change.
I tried to move my Documents folder to another partition, but stupidly specified E: instead of E:Documents. I moved it back to the default location and fixed the Quick Access link but can't fix the folder link in "This PC".
The icon is E: instead of Documents, and it points to the E: folder.
How can I fix this? I assume I need the correct registry entries. I tried the tutorial to remove/restore the folder, but the hacks only hide or show the folder in "This PC". I don't want to remove/hide it anyway.
In the quick access area of the file browser the documents folder is pointing to a drive that no longer exists.
The folder is pinned to the top of the file list and it wont unpin. How do I either unpin it or make it point to the correct location.

View 1 RepliesI have two HDD drives - C (main drive) and D (storage) Drive C has windows 10 installed (upgrade from 7 today) and seems to be running OK
Prior to the Windows 10 install I had problems accessing the D drive drive so I booted from a Linux Mint disc in order to access my stuff on D, all went well and I created two folders with my stuff in them ready to access once I had upgraded to Windows 10.
Installed Windows 10 on C drive, all working great, I can see both HDD, I can see and access both drives, I can access one folder on the D drive and see all my files inside but i can't access the other folder on the D drive named "documents" Windows 10 says it's a system (.sys file) and asks for an app to open it.
Have I lost all my stuff in that folder ...
New in Windows 10 the file explorer opens in documents folder no matter which folder is clicked on. Open with in context works ok. Windows 10 is an update of Windows 8.1.
View 4 RepliesI have just upgraded to Win 10 about a week ago. Several times I have looked for recently created documents and could not find them right away. They eventually appeared but they should be there right away.
Example: I saved a docx file and then saved it as a PDF document, but neither file appeared in the folder I saved them to when I wanted to attach it to an email (did not see it in the Mail app client attachment dialog, nor in File Explorer, nor in my business's email web site attach file dialog box). I had the document still open, so I saved it again, in a different folder and then saved a new PDF. Still unable to find it to add it to the email. Eventually, the files both showed up but I had to wait about 10 minutes (I think).
Clean install build 10130. I can't find anywhere to choose the icons I want on the desktop. Used to be able to do this from Personalization but not any more. Can't find anywhere in Control Panel either.

View 1 RepliesEvery time I go to "This PC" section in my file explorer it never loads and is very slow. If I try to launch it from the Start I get what's shown in the pic. I can still navigate to other places on my drive and access the files as such but I cant use this section.

View 9 RepliesIt works fine, but suddenly today the New menu disappeared from my click menu when I click on any blank place in a folder. What's worse, if I click the New Folder button under the File Explorer top menu, there is no response. In the end, I can only create new folders using command lines but not by the usual shortcuts.

View 2 RepliesAbout a week after Clean Installing Windows 10 from an upgraded version on my laptop, I noticed that i wasn't able to Create a New Folder anywhere, from Desktop to File Explorer Directories. Nothing! Even when i try clicking the "New Folder" Button in the Ribbon or pressing Ctrl+Shift+N it still won't work. In the Context Menu (Right Click), I can't find the "New" Button too. Is this normal for Windows 10 after being installed? Do i have to install something (maybe an update) for the "New" to appear in the Context Menu?
View 9 RepliesRecently a change occured (after an update?). I have a folder containing only 6 shortcuts, linking to devices or to drives, connected to devices, in my home network. Opening this folder takes about 30 sec. It has to do with those shortcuts that link to drives, connected to devices, which are off.
Apparently, file explorer, when trying to present the shortcuts, also tries to get some info from those drives. After failing, file explorer nevertheless decides to present the shortcut after long waiting time. This effect has come recently in W10. In most cases, the effect is there, but in a few cases, the map is opening normally.

I have a problem with my taskbar. I have 2 monitors and I like to keep the taskbar on the secondary display, vertically at the right hand side of the screen. My other half has a separate account on our PC and she has the taskbar the same way.
When she logs in to her account while I'm still logged in and then when I switch back to my profile, the taskbar is being moved from display 2 back to display 1 - however it stays vertically on the right hand side. I.e. Windows can't seem to remember which display the taskbar is on, but it can remember the location of the taskbar.

My 'documents' folder suddenly got moved into another folder named 'Doctor Web.' Looking into this, I find that Doctor Web is a piece of security software originating in Russia, apparently quite respectable, but it's not something I ever installed. According to its properties, the Doctor Web folder was created in 2014, but it wasn't on my computer two days ago when a backup I ran had no errors. Today, it choked on the new folder. I'm attaching a screen grab to illustrate the situation.
My question is, is there some method by which I can move the 'documents' folder from the 'Doctor Web' folder. put it back where it belongs and delete the 'Doctor Web' folder? I have access to all my documents, but I am not at all happy with them being spontaneously moved like this. Al
I am trying to place a bunch of scanned photos into chronological sequence of when they were taken during the year so I can use the slide show feature to review/view . I've named the files by what the event was, so alphabetizing won't work.
View 3 RepliesThe generic PnP monitor driver in the device manager keeps reenabling/reinstalling itself whenever I restart Windows 10 on my early 2011 MBP (Boot Camp). I want to leave it disabled so the brightness controls on the keyboard work, otherwise they don't.
I do not want to disable automatic driver update checking by Windows 10. I know that if I turn off automatic driver installation via device installation settings and enabling "Prevent installation of other devices not described by other policy settings" will keep the "Generic PnP Monitor" driver uninstalled, and this is certainly one solution that works, but disabling these features interferes with the installation of other devices (one example is the TAP driver for the Private Internet Access Windows client).
There is no available apple display driver I can install over the generic driver that I have found, but the brightness controls work perfectly when the Generic PnP driver is disabled/uninstalled. I just wish it'd stay that way after a restart.
I have just formatted my PC last Monday, and i have installed drivers and Steam and American Truck Simulator. I know that my saves and mods are in My Documents folder and ATS loads still fine after the folder is missing.
When I go to C:Usersdrfee there is a folder called Documents, but there is nothing in it, but where have My Documents folder gone? And yes hidden items is checked.
