View 1 RepliesIs there a table that tells me (translates for me) how to do in Windows 10 what I used to be able to do in Windows 7?
For example, how do I make my Windows 10 jump lists have as many entries for 'recent' or for 'frequent' as I used to have for Windows 7? (My jump list for Word had the 10 most recent files -- now in Windows 10 it only shows about 3)
Or, how to set the amount of time before inactivity on the computer causes it to lock?
I just got a Win 10 computer, and I am in the process of starting to prep it for moving all my old files over from my XP computer (using PCmover).
One of the things PCmover told me to do was go into Win 10's Task Scheduler and disable the tasks under the Active Tasks tab, which I did.
But now I can't find those disabled tasks to enable them after I complete the PC-to-PC file move. They've disappeared completely.
I just want to create a list of tasks. in Windows 8 or 10
View 2 RepliesMy Windows 10 shows 100% disk usage for a few seconds on doing simple tasks, like opening a web browser or something. The only usage is around 3 MB/s
View 1 RepliesI've just clean installed Windows 10 with some app. The TaskSchedule shows many hidden tasks. Is this service harmful to my desktop: BackgroundUploadTask
View 4 RepliesBeen noticing a number of errors when I open task scheduler for e.g. SVC Restart Task - The task XML contains a value that is incorrectly formatted or out of range" Other than the aforementioned task there are errors with the following:
a) Schedule Scan
b) Reboot
c) Policy Install
d) Queue Reporting
e) sih
f) Scheduled Start
g) Automatic App Update
I am a member of the WIndows Insider programme, and these errors have persisted across different builds including the latest one 10240. These were reported to MS thru the Feedback app.
I downloaded the official ISO today and upon doing a clean install noticed the errors.
Application Log entries read as follows:
Error 16385 "Failed to schedule Software Protection service for re-start at 2115-07-05T14:11:34Z. Error Code: 0x80041318"
This happens every 30 seconds or so for about 3 minutes. And starts again every time I launch an MS Office program.
I have tried the old trusted method of deleting the relevant registry entries and importing the task XML to no avail.
I have an ASUS Desktop PC M11AD Series computer with an Intel core i5. I am running windows 10 Home on my computer and ever since I got Windows 10, It has been randomly restarting. It will restart while doing simple tasks, like using Google Chrome, or using Skype. I have tried to monitor what apps cause the restarts, but it is extremely random. I upgraded my computer 2-3 weeks ago, and it is starting to get on my nerves. I have switched my browser to Microsoft Edge and it has been working fine.
When this occurs, my computer will freeze for about 5-10 seconds, and then it will to a regular restart. Sometimes when it boots back up it says "Windows is updating" and sometimes nothing. I have disabled auto updates on my computer and I just can't seem to find the problem. Sometimes it will freeze in chunks like 3 seconds, it works for 1 second and then 4 seconds and then restarts. My friend also has Windows 10, but his doesn't restart. I can't find out what build I'm on, and I upgraded when Windows said I could upgrade.
Other than going through each and every task in the task scheduler, is there a way to see those that are allowed to wake the machine while it is sleeping? My PC woke up this morning at 3:30 am. It then went back to sleep about ten minutes later. I've checked all of the normal things (no auto-maintenance, etc.) so I' suspecting it is a task that woke the PC up.
View 2 RepliesAfter upgrade to windows 10, tasks still run but don't appear in task scheduler so I can't edit them. Where are they kept? More importantly, how to I get them to show up where I can edit them?
When opening Task Scheduler I get at least 50 boxes I have to close before I can exit the program (or use task manager to do so.)
3 days ago I was exploring an older hard drive. When I tried to explore the desktop folder of that drive Windows Vista, it wouldn't open. It suggested that i shared the folder so I could explore it or copy files from that folder(which is what I originally wanted to do). When I did, the folders on any drive stopped opening. When I try to open any folder, it flashes white and returns to the desktop.
View 1 RepliesI installed W10 five weeks ago and until now all has been well.
When I turn on my laptop the"normal" picture screen opening appears showing the correct date / time.
Any action to open the log in screen or any key press results in the log on screen showing for about a half second followed by a blank screen with only the cursor arrow showing.
About a minute later the picture reappears.
When I want to open a JPG file, a list pops up to choose what program to open it. I select the one and there is an additional choice to always use the selected program automatically. I check that also. However it still pops up with the 5 or 6 program choice window when I click on a JPG file. How do I get the choice to stick?
View 1 RepliesI have been using WIndows 10 since they released it and one issue has been plaguing me since then. Whenever I leave my computer and come back after some time i will notice apps are opened sitting in my taskbar. The main apps that do it are Photo and Calendar.
I don't use those apps for either photo or calendar things and I am not even signed into Windows 10 with a MS account.
But every hour or so, these apps open up and hang out in my taskbar. I have even removed them from default apps and uninstalled what I could but no luck.
When I click on the Calendar app there's a brief flicker then nothing I cannot open it
View 2 RepliesI know this has been asked previously. I am working on a single user Toshiba laptop. Recently upgraded to Windows 10. Now none of the apps are opening. Tried the fix listed. There was a link to install bUT I cannot get to the Internet so I am unable to use the link provided. This machine came with pre-installed software so I cannot downgrade back to Windows 7.
View 1 RepliesI made clean Windows 10 (build 10240) install five times, and five times after some time my Start menu had vanished. Simply it doesn't open neither by Win key nor by mouse click on Window icon. Now I won't go into 6th clean install as it is clear that after a while Start menu would disappear again. So this is not way to go.
- PowerShell command
Code:
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml"}
- Registry edit
Code:
CURRENT_USER>Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>Explorer>Advance>EnableXamlStartMenu = 0
In the meantime between working and non-working Start I didn't make any radical system changes nor user hacks to system so the problem is all the more surprising for me. Any way that would bring my menu back (since without it the OS control is significantly diminished) or maybe someone other had met the same problem (on final build) too.
How do I reenable back the 'Always ask before opening this file' security popup for a .js script file? It is normally executed by Microsoft Windows Based Script Host.
While it is annoying for everytime I double-clicked it instead of right-clicking it to edit the code, disabling the security popup would mean that the script would try to run and this is not really good..
I'm having trouble opening folder within folders. For example, I can open any folder on my desktop but when I try to access any folders within that folder they show me this message;
For now, I transfer any folders I need to access out onto my desktop. By the way what the pop-up even means....
I have recently installed and have two profiles on laptop. One for my daughter and one for me, both login using Microsoft account. My daughter can open app store, but when I switch to my profile it wont open at all.
View 1 RepliesAll started fine on Saturday but by this morning Outlook 2010 wouldn't open, Word 2010 no response, Nitro Pro v10 no response - impossible trying to work so I went back to Windows 8.1!
View 2 RepliesI have received the free update from Windows 7 to Windows 10.My issues originally started when the start menu with the apps on disappeared I researched the internet and managed to fix this by using Powershell and copying and pasting in some instrucitons
My computer has recently done an update and I am on build 10240 and now my apps do not work at all. I wish I could go back to WIndows 7 but am over the month where it allows you to which is very annoying as Windows 10 seems very unstable.how I am to get my apps working again I have researched the internet and tried some fixes (including Powershell again) but to no avail The apps do not work - not in the start menu or in the all apps section.
I have been unable to open the money tile since converting to Windows 10 (it opened once for a day and then stopped). I click on the tile and the program appears in the start line but it won't open.
View 3 Repliessuddenly, by opening windows it presents only the new format (see annexe).how can I return to the previous version, showing the entire elements onto the screen
View 2 RepliesI just turned my laptop on and I can't get to my desktop, it just opens me on my app screen and even when I click the button on the bottom left that normally would allow me to switch between the two it does nothing.
View 1 RepliesWhen I click on the calculator app nothing happens I tried SFC/scannow and everything is fine. On my dad's user account in the same PC it's working but on my user account it's not.
