I just upgraded to Windows 10 on my Surface Pro 3. I decided that for the time being I will use my local account to log into the computer and that I will sign in separately with my Microsoft Account into the apps that I need to use.
I had no problem doing this with Store, Weather, News. But when I try to do it with Mail & Calendar and People apps I get a message saying: Something went wrong... We're sorry but we weren't able to do that. Error code 0x85050013.

- I am using some email accounts from the same Internet service provider
- the accounts are configured apparently with the same settings
- one accounts gets through and works correctly, reading and sending emails
- the other accounts don't read, nor send
+ wrong accounts keep asking to "correct account", because "outlook mail settings of account aren't updated"
+ this happens both in Win10 Desktop and mobile.
+ the "correction" asks the password, then does nothing
+ the issue repeats at every sync, with no sync

I would like to use some of the features that require you to log in with a Microsoft account rather than my own local administrator account. But when I did that, it totally changed my settings for my local account including desktop, etc. So I deleted the Microsoft account. how to keep my local account settings when signing in with a Microsoft account.

Now that there are no parental controls on local user accounts, I set up a Microsoft account for each of my children so that I can limit screen time and accessibility to websites. I am now trying to merge their old local accounts to the new Microsoft accounts. I can log in to their local accounts and I can log in to their new Microsoft accounts, however, I cannot sign in to the Microsoft account from their local account (I'm only assuming this is how to do it). I go to settings, accounts, Sign in with Microsoft Account instead, enter email and password, enter old password, click Next and get the message "Oops, something went wrong Whatever happened, it was probably our fault. Please try again."
My goal is to save everything they have on their local accounts (Minecraft files especially) and get it over to the Microsoft account so that I take advantage of the parental controls. So, deleting profiles is not an option, but if there is a way to get everything moved over, then I can delete the local account, but how to move everything over.

I upgraded to Windows 10 on my laptop last night from 8.1 and it had been working fine this morning. However in the afternoon I got a notification that there had been a driver failure and I should restart to repair it. Ever since I have though I've been having difficulties. After I log in I'm stuck on a black screen with only the cursor visible. If you leave it for about 10 minutes eventually the desktop appears, however I'm prompted with the error message in the title and the task bar hasn't loaded. If you try and click on the task bar you eventually get the pop up "Microsoft Windows: the application is not responding" and it gives me the option to end process which does nothing. I'm unable to access control panel, I can use ctrl + alt + delete, however I can't launch task manager.
Booting in safe mode I don't get the critical error, however aside from that the situation is identical. I've tried resetting the PC, performing a system restore to before the update, and start-up repair, all to no avail.

After running Windows 10 for 6 weeks on my Dell Optiplex 790 desktop I got this critical error message. Tried several suggested fixes including unstalling a new application that proved to be imcompatible (Sling). The fix that worked for me was to do a safe boot with networking on, allow the computer to finish "working its magic" and then reboot. Then go back into normal boot mode and start again. This cleared up the problem.

That's what my husband's laptop says after signing in to Windows 10. He installed an upgrade to Windows 10 about a week ago, and no problems until yesterday - 8/9/2015. A window comes up saying "Critical Error - Start menu and Cortana aren't working. We'll try to fix it the next time you sign in." Then there is a button within that window that says, "Sign out now."
When he clicks on "Sign out now" his laptop restarts, shows the page with the date, he is able to clear that to the sign in page, he puts in his password, hits enter, and the same critical error shows again on his desktop. He is locked into this round robin. The toolbar doesn't load all the usual icons. He clicked on the google chrome icon on the desktop one of the times, and its homepage came up, but he was unable to use the page or to access the internet. At first he was able to click on something in the lower right corner and learned that he had internet access, but he still couldn't access the internet. Now that piece of information is unavailable to him.
When he right clicks on his desktop, the right-click window comes up as usual, but when he clicks on "display settings" for example, he gets another window that says, "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel." However, the slide show of his photos he uses for his desktop display or background is working well. What can he do to fix his Start Menu?

I'm getting a critical error on my laptop saying start menu and cortana aren't working and advising me to logout and log back in. According to the error message they will attempt to fix the error the next time I sign in. The last thing I did before this error showed up was update my laptop with the latest security update for Windows Defender. I dont know what to do anymore. I can access any of the win 10 apps bc they arent showing up on the screen and when I follow the message's advise, when I log back in I get the same error. I've also tried a full reboot to no avail. It is worth noting I am running a low end laptop (Lenovo G40 w AMD E1 processor and 2 GB ram.

I downloaded Win10 Wednesday of last week. Ive had 3 issues. One major two minor (and related).
First, each time I try to wake my computer up from sleep, it crashes, i get the sad face and it tells me it needs to restart.
Second, Edge and the Store wont connect to the internet. It seems to be something with my Microsoft account. IE, Cortana, Steam etc. else connect fine.

After upgrading my 8.1 pro to Win 10 pro i connected it to my MS account and all was fine. I then took it home and joined it to my domain and now I cant get it to connect to my MS account. I have group policy set to allow ms account sync, and my other 8.1 machines will connect to the MS account. On Win 10 I could get onedrive to connect and sync, but Cortana won't connect, either will the store or the user account option to add a MS account. I get the log in box for it, but after entering my MS email account and password the box just disappears without any error.I have deleted both user profiles on the machine and tried again and it still happens...

Just got a new laptop, when it started it up it asked me to create a username and password so I did. I then went into settings and click on sign in to my Microsoft Account so I could access my sons games, etc.
It says it's unable to connect or some error, try again or cancel are my options. Weird part is it doesn't even allow me to enter anything in it just goes right to you can't login.
I'm doing a system reset, if I can't login this time what do I do?

The situation is that I upgraded from win7 to 10 and I have a basic "local administrator account". When I go to my account settings and try to click on "Sign in with a Microsoft account instead", nothing happens (there is a brief background window that flashes and then nothing happens).
Similarly, if I try to login to the xbox one app, it also says that it could not sign me in. If I click on the "sign in with a different Microsoft account", it presents me with the option to "choose an account: Microsoft account". When I click on that, again nothing happens at all.
I get the same results if I try to turn on Cortana-- when she eventually asks to connect to a Microsoft account, I click "sign in" and again nothing happens (here again I sometimes see a brief window flash in the background but I never get a login screen.
Last but not least, I get this same result if I try to add a Microsoft account to the Mail App in Win10. As soon as I try to click to add an Outlook/Hotmail account, it flashes and nothing happens. I am able to add other types of accounts to Mail (google, etc). (Oh, and if I try to login to the Microsoft Store I also get the same login problem as described).
I'm really bummed b/c I cannot use a lot of features in Windows 10 and how to hook into a Microsoft account.
Things I have tried: I run windows updates constantly just to be sure, I have rest my "clock" and time settings repeatedly, I have made sure my location settings are turned 'on'. I have tried turning all of these things off and then on, then rebooting and checking for updates...still no way to login to Microsoft account .

Now I can't remove accounts or change one letter spelling error in calendar name. Will I be able to if I some how get out of the whole Microsoft account login in Win 10? Should I just try to add an additional calendar with the same name but correct spelling? I would like to be rid of the start up log in and the feeling of not being in control. I am in my seventies and usually OK with sorting out issues but dealing with all the new stuff at once is a bit much.

I am enjoying my upgrade of Windows 10 except for I can't sign-in with my Microsoft account. I went from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro. I can log in with a local account (same as Windows 7). I can't download any apps from the Windows Store, Microsoft Edge doesn't work like it should. BTW, when I click on "sign in with Microsoft account instead" in the settings, a window wants to pop up but suddenly disappears.
